  • A really simple bag, using fabric you wouldn't expect would work! Of course you can use any fabric you like, and although I've used shop-bought handles you could easily make your own.
All materials used are from www.debbieshoresewing.com
    Materials:
    32” x 14” [81cm x 336cm]cm] outer fabric
    32” x 22” [81cm x 56cm] lining fabric
    32” x 22” [81cm x 56cm] firm interfacing [Decovil light]
    2 x 1” [2.5cm] D rings
    Handle
    Magnetic snap
Plate or saucer to round off corners
    Cut:
    2 pieces of outer and lining fabric each measuring 16” x 14” [41cm x 36cm]
    2 pieces of lining fabric each measuring 4” x 4” [10cm x 10cm]
    2 pieces of lining fabric each measuring 11” x 7.5” [28cm x 19cm]
Fuse interfacing to the wrong sides of the outer fabrics and one piece of flap fabric

When I started making bags, I was also decluttering my wardrobe, I had dresses that I hadn’t worn for years but for personal reasons I couldn’t give them to a charity shop or throw them away….I took them apart and made beautiful tote bags from them; every inch of fabric being used. I keep one specially for my walking shoes together with a rain coat in the trunk of the car…..others I use for my grocery shopping…. I’ve found a way to look at my memories every day.
Thank you Debbie, for another lovely tutorial….It’s raining here today so guess what I am going to do.

I love all your bag videos. I have made a bunch of bags, but never one with rounded bottom. I can't wait to finish my jacket to see how much fabric I have left to make this bag. I might have to get more fabric to make a matching wallet.

Thank you for sharing about how ironing changes the measurement of fabrics. So many do not iron folds or wrinkles out, which cause distortions is their projects. Great sewing tip.

Debbie you are so well loved. You are such a great teacher.I just love this bag, one of my fav's. I had a stumble with it though and need to find out if I did it wrong. The bag front, back and 2 lining pieces were cut 16x14 and then we took another 1 1/2 inches off each top and taped down. Well, now these measure 11 at the top. So, when I tryed to put the straps on they bunched up because they had no room. In you video it looks like you had a inch or so on each side. please tell me what I did wrong.

Debbie I was looking at this video today and wondered what was the length of the dart, how long did you make the line from the curve. I hope this makes sense. I have some beautiful material, not enough for a blouse or dress but would make an awesome bag with your method.

Awesome teacher. Can I use a foam since we do not have decovil light here? All we have is a medium pellon. Also can I use a regular handle that I sew and what length would you suggest? Lastly, can I use regular cotton fabric since I don't have viscose? I am in the Caribbean. Grateful for your response as I would love to make this bag today. 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾

Use any fabric you like, stabiliser is ideal for lightweight fabrics, I'm not familiar with Pellon, but worth giving it a try! My handl;e is about 24" long...

@@debbieshore Thank you so much Miss Debbie for you gracious response. I will use the foam because the pellon is quite soft. Question: If I wanted to make the flap from faux lather or soft leather would I need to line it with cotton or with itself and would I need to stabilize it with foam as well. Thank you.

If making a dress with viscose and I wanted to give it just a little more structure without taking too much of the drape from it What would be the best way to do this?
I see so many lovely designs in viscose fabric, but not all patterns recommend using a viscose fabric.
