Neyo’s rendition always makes me cry, I love Nipsey Russell‘s it’s so heartfelt but when he does sudden movements with the words I just lose it ❤️👏🏽👏🏽

I love this song with all my heart. It's a song about being ok with being you, which is something I can empathize with a lot. I think the hardest hitting lyric here is "what would I do if I could look inside me, and know how it feels to say I like what I see." That lyric hits HARD for me. Hell, I even took inspiration from it for a song from my own musical that I'm currently in the middle of writing! Seriously though, I adore this thing and Ne-yo did such an awesome job here.

I saw the Wiz live in New York on Broadway. Happened to be in the hotel that I stayed in. When I tell you actors from other Broadway shows in the area took the night off just to see the show. That was how great the performance was.
I remember buying a Vinyl Copy of the original sound track to The Wiz at a garage sale back in the day and listening to the heck out of it. Glad to see new versions carrying on the emotion of that vinyl.

This song applies to so many in this world today. It stirs up emotions and lets us remember its ok to be vulnerable and you can cry and let those feelings in . ❤
So first off, Ne-Yo's voice is legitimately amazing. You can't get around that fact. You can feel the soul just pouring out of each verse. It's unlike anyone else.
The challenge is that that same soulfulness kind of misses the point of the song. It's kind of like when people sing "I dreamed a dream" super beautifully while smiling. The song is about the fact that he _CAN'T_ feel. He can't feel _ANYTHING_ . If you square that with Nipsey's version, who encapsulated the bitter reality of wishing for something you just don't have, this just comes across too much like the Tinman CAN feel.
Now, if that was the hidden point that, even now, he truly had everything, then bravo. However, I'm not 100% sure if that was what they were going for.
That’s exactly what I was thinking, but what I’m thinking what they might’ve been going for is that fact that the tin man could feel all along, he just didn’t see it.
If you pair up his acting with the lyrics, you can see that. Like on the part where he says ,”I can cry, I can smile” he literally smiles but instantly stops because he is doubting himself. 🥲
He can feel. He’s always been able to. That’s the irony and the message of the Wizard of Oz. All these characters already possessed what they desired

Went to the Wiz musical last night in Cleveland Ohio and it was excellent. The guy who played the Tin man did a very good job singing this but this is the best version of this song I’ve ever heard. Neyo deserves ever rosé available right now.
