- During the college football game between Georgia Tech and Clemson, Georgia Tech head coach Geoff Collins had bizarre clock management when he elected to let the clock run down despite having all three timeouts while trailing 14-3. Georgia Tech had a chance to get the ball back with 43 seconds left, but Collins simply let the clock run down instead of calling a timeout. He then didn't even put a return man on the field for the punt and didn't attempt to block it either. Georgia Tech fans are unhappy with the bizarre decision from Collins.

Not the dumbest thing ever, but why would you not call a timeout to get the ball back?? And then they don’t even rush the punter or put a return man on the field… it seems like Geoff Collins has already given up on the game.

Tech needs to get a new Athletic Director as well as he should have never given Goof Collins a 7 yr contract and not firing Collins after getting beat 55 to 0 the last two games......Its an embarrasment!!!
Georgia Tech is completely falling apart. They just haven't been the same since like 2016 (though one could argue their decline under Paul Johnson's last years started with their season-breaking loss to Notre Dame the previous year).
Virginia Tech fan here, I HATED playing Georgia Tech during the Paul Johnson years, but seeing them in this state is honestly kinda sad.
In my opinion, Georgia Tech actually looked better on both sides of the ball. Minus this dumb decision by Collins, using all of our timeouts in the 3rd, the targeting call that got Charlie ejected, and the false starts on the o-line. All of those eras fall back on the coaches. I like how Tech came out in the first half. It looked like it was about to be a upset.
Give credit to Jeff sims and the run game. I just think Collins needs to pack his bags and hit the road. His bad decision making cost us.

There were many times watching this game where I started to go “hey, at least I’m seeing proof of concept, this is improvement” and then this happened. For me, this is inexcusable. Your defense just sold out and you have 3 time outs to try to make the game closer, and you fold.

Coach Paul Johnson is 100x the coach Collins could ever be.
Many stupid mistakes were made by coaching staff this 1st week:
1. Utes coached gave up 4 points and lost the game vs Florida
2. FSU coach messed up the pitch call and needed miracle to win the game
3. And then this GA Tech coach.
We still outplayed lsu for 4 quarters and deserved that win miracle or not
Imagine what Georgia is gonna do to this ga tech team
I don't think they can share that kind of carnage on TV if they dare broadcast it live.

Come on now! Despite the bad decision making by Collins. There was about to be a upset. Clemson fans was shitting bricks. I was at the game last night sitting next to a ton of Clemson fans. They were shocked at the way Georgia Tech came out. Getting pressure, causing sacks, the run game looked good, Jeff sims looked good minus a few throws that were a little over the top of his receivers head. Nobody expected Ga Tech to come out and preform the way they did. Collins need to be fired. He displayed poor coaching and clock management. Dabo played chess with Collins to get him to call that last timeout late 3rd. If anything Collins will be the one to hold this team back. Besides coaching tech improved. Everybody just gave up in the 4th. But again it all falls back on Collins:

Clemson didn’t take over this game until Thomas was ejected for targeting. Sadly enough Tech was moving the ball on Clemsons defense but their offensive line kept getting off side penalties. As far as Collins not using a timeout it only showed me he had no faith in his team and that’s sad since they always practice at a High Level! Collins will be fired after this season. No way that man keeps his job.

When we thought Geoff Collins could redeem himself in his 4th year! Nope! He continues to make these silly mistakes like using all timeouts at an unnecessary moment in the 2nd half, let’s the clock run to go to halftime without thinking using timeouts, block punts that just make you cringe, no motivation to the fanbase and much much more.

I don't blame him. He is a huge underdog in a tight game right before halftime. Punt returns are never a guaranteed thing and if you try to block you run the risk of giving Clemson a first down in scoring position. This was actually a smart coaching move, unlike many others we've seen over the weekend. And so far it appears to have paid off because the game is now 14-10.
How has it paid off? They could have been winning...
This is one of the stupidest coaching decisions I've ever seen. Being afraid of a muffed punt (or something on that level) is like saying you aren't going to kick a 30 yard field goal before halftime because it could be blocked and returned for a touchdown.
It paid off big time cus GT got that azz beat. Shouldn't play scared and leave points on the board.
