Love the renewed focus on atv's. Nicely done Mike, would love to see an old fashioned Dirt Trax shoot-out. Sportsman 570, Outlander 570 and Alterra 600.
Yes, yes and yes!
Thanks Ron! Yup, that would be an awesome shootout. Hoping we can get all these units on the ground at the same time in the near future.
Hope this happens
Definitely do a comparison. Do it on all ATV's. The good the bad upgrades everything do it all 😀😀 lol
Appreciate the efforts with more ATV videos. I'm not into Arctic Cat, but still looks like a fine machine. Merci
Great seeing you at the event Mike. Wish we could have hung out longer. Sounds like you enjoyed the 600 as well.
It was a busy one that's for sure! Glad we at least got to sit down at the Black Cat for a bit. Looking forward to the next event. Until then, patiently waiting for your video to go live tonight 👍👍👍
I think Cat has hit these out of the park. As a Long time Cat owner, atv's and sleds, I'm happy to finally see a new chassis. Wish you would have shared more on the layout of the drive train / engine. How it is revolutionary I believe anyhow. Cats new 600 single will walk all over Polaris's 570. Guaranteed. Nice job on your presentation on these new Cats...cheers.
You did good on the review. I like that you are listening to us and getting more atv content back. Thanks for the video. Long time watcher. And subscriber.
Thank Joe! Really appreciate you watching!
@@dirttraxtv I think I have been watching since it started. It’s a great show. And now can get it on CZcams any time I need a Dirt Trax fix. Same with snow trax.
Absolutely! We'll have lots more SnowTrax content coming soon too and the plan is to keep posting DT all year long so stay tuned!
love them arctic cats- great reliable machines- person. like those single thumpers ! ;-)
Love the Alterra lineup from Arctic Cat with the 700 TRV being an excellent 2-up machine. It's a shame Textron isn't using their deep pockets to expand on what Arctic Cat was doing with ATVs instead of reducing the entire lineup. Not sure why they went to 600cc instead of keeping the 700cc engines. Those 700s were excellent units. Glad to see they're maintaining a reasonable price, compared with Polaris and Can Am too. Arctic Cat ATVs have always been a fantastic value given their reliability. My extended family has owned 10 Arctic Cat ATVs. They've all been great runners and haven't let us down so far. We still also have a 1984 Honda TRX 200 that's back up and running after its first transmission overhaul. Good little machine.
It’s because textron also owns Polaris so they are spending their money there instead
@@Amaranthian450 Polaris was bought back from Textron in 1981, so they’ve been independent for some time now.
@@RARufus oh well I stand corrected. Not sure where my brother showed me that they still owned Polaris..
@@Amaranthian450 That is sad and that sucks 😞 Arctic Cats Alterra 700 is awesome! I have 20k+ miles on it
The reason that the 700 was good and reliable is because it was a rebadged kymco mxu700. In fact all their atv besides the 600 are kymco.
Nice quads but hopefully Arctic Cat will come out with a big twin in the future to compete. As of right now Polaris and Can Am own the mud category.
You guys have the life. Keep it up!
Thanks man!!
Fuel filler location would be a concern for the mud crowd. Altogether those are some nice machines.
Nice work! I’d love to see that mud pro put the test. Take her deep! 💪🏼
🤘🏁🎉
@@dirttraxtv I just did a little digging on prices. The 850 Highlifter sportsman is around $600 more than the 600 mud pro. Lots more power and better tires with the Highlifter but with that power you will more than likely break more parts. I built a sportsman 570 because I knew I would be hard on it and the motor would be an easier rebuild. Also I’ve had really good luck and not broken anything… yet. On a side note I dyno’d my sportsman 570 with clutch kit and snorkel kit. It was at a perfect a/f and made 33 horsepower to the wheels. Wonder how the 600 would do.🤔
@@NorthernRiderOffroad Would love to dyno it. I think Cat is a bit out there on its pricing. It could present some challenges for dealers.
@@dirttraxtv the sportsman 570 trail is the same price as the mud pro so maybe it isn’t too crazy. Personally, I’d spend the extra money for the power. Not everyone wants all that though I guess.
Thanks for the atv content.
You bet
Textron is trying I’ll give them that. I absolutely loved my wildcat trail and still contend that is was the best 50” sxs(I have not got to try the newest RZR trail yet) you could buy to this day. But I think they really need to up their game to make it. I think the 600 Alterra makes a great entry level machine for the budget minded if they would lower the price to make it that. But to be competitive they are just going to have to do more as even most of the Arctic cat purists have switch to other brands and it’s going to take much more than this to bring them back. Fingers crossed that this is only the beginning and textron will be rolling out some awesome machines over the next few years!
I did a full review of the Wildcat XX while I was there too which will air soon. It is a good machine. Less refined ed than it's competition but outstanding suspension. Stay tuned for that one.
Love it
Keep it comin
Good job loving the ATV content …..super sick of SXS looking forward to more information on the new mud pro with it’s rear engine design
More to come!
totally agree mine sxs are nice if youre trying to relax on the trail but in general they're kinda boring
I own the 22 LTD seen here it’s a blast !! The only thing I needed replaced was my clutch apparently at the factory they failed to fully bolt it together must of been built on a Friday 😂 got fixed now she purrs like a cat
have a 2020 alterra 570 that i actually love, looking at getting either a LTD or the SE this year aswell
more focus on ATV's! in the market for a mid size atv would love to see more about the polaris and canam 570's
Looks like a good contender!
👊💥🎉
Grea video. Glad to see atv’s. looks like a nice machine. Hope they fixed the battery drain issue had with all arctic cats I have used. Battery would drain when turned off.
Not aware of the battery issue but I appreciate the comments. If we get one of these for more testing I will look into this issue further.
I agree more ATV videos
Thanks Mike for a great video. It will be nice to have a comparison video with other brands.
Cheers
Hoping Cat will get us one of these this spring so we can run it against some other units. Fingers crossed 🤞
great overview video ,nice work . I look forward to seeing a video or episode of Dirt Trax comparing this machine to a Yamaha Grizzly !
Oh that would be an awesome comparo. I'm signing up right now to do do that one with Luke or AJ 🤘
@@dirttraxtv awesome ! It would be nice to see like a shootout between all the brands in that size category if it were possible. Im a Yamaha guy with a 2022 Rmax and a 2019 Grizzly SE but it would be interesting to see a side by side comparison.
Maybe I missed it but mention the msrp of the unit vs it’s competition. Deciding if it’s a value means understanding the cost vs features relative to the Polaris 570 and griz 660
I have a 22 alterra se and got 100 miles on it and it’s in the shop wiring harness was too short when I turned to hard ripped out some wires took out winch eps and sometimes it would idle low and make a ugly knocking noise still waiting to get it out of shop week four starts monday
Yeah let’s see them put through the deep stuff looks promising
🤘
I really wish reviews started getting into things under the hood. Intakes on standard models, ease of access on the trail like airboxs, easy belt swap access etc.
The ol' it's got tires, power steering, and a bumper is something we can all lookup on a website.
I gave you guys the opportunity to tell me what you wanted to know about this machine about 2 weeks before I did this overview. Where were you then?
Know this, before I do ANY reviews or overviews I ALWAYS ask in our community section whst you want to know. I'd rather give you the exact content you want to know than just tell you a bunch of stuff you aren't interested in.
We do that here on Appalachian Mountain Riders. The only thing is my channel isn’t “big enough” for OEM’s to want to work with so I don’t get demo machines but I keep trying so maybe one day! I do the best I can when I can despite that!
@@AppalachianMountainRiders I've watched quite a few of your videos. You do a good job. Worth checking out 👍
@@dirttraxtv I did ask, got a like too ;)
The artic cat alterra Mud pro is definitely the the can am Outlander 570 XMRs rival
It doesn’t sound fuel injected. Are they supposed to be or are they carbureted?
Any updates on these Arctic Cats? Can't seem to find much on them!
We still haven't received a test unit at home. Not sure how many other channels have gotten a unit to report on either. Feels like a missed opportunity for Cat.
"big heavy tires" has zillas on it lmao. i do like the new machines i think there on the right path, just not quite there yet
I have a 2019 Textron/Arctic Cat Prowler Pro that hasn't shifted while running since about hour 10 on the machine. It was kept for two months by my local shop to fix the problem under warrantee, which had run out because Textron/Arctic Cat would not return my calls and advise how to go about warranty work. They allegedly fixed the transmission. It shifted for exactly one day and reverted back to not shifting while running. I have a useless unsafe brand new condition machine. Any thoughts or ideas on how to handle this would be appreciated?
Textron's definitely had some growing pains in the offroad division. At this event it did feel like they're committed to changing for the better but time will tell i suppose...
those racks look to be all steel with the plastic covers
Don’t want to rain on your parade Mike but as a owner of that exact same model LTD I can tell you that is a early year model 22 that you have by the missing 60th anniversary badge thats missing over the front red cat sticker also due to chain supply they come 26” kenda bearclaw evo tires also probably due to chain supply the rear shocks have different springs just check out the ones on the mud pro also the suspension travel was advertised last year as 9’ all around but for 2023 they advertise at 8 3/4” too bad they didn’t send you a black hills edition anyhoo as a experienced 50 year old rider I rode a lot of different trails here in Quebec rocks hills and sand especially between July and end of September I got close to 1900km and I really love it I’m anxious to see your thoughts on it that engine and clutching is quite surprising
Just showing you what I had in front of me. Quebec trails are sweet. Hoping to get back there this winter for some snowmobiling! 👍💥🎉
I wish they would have did a 1000 v twin mud pro
Yessss
Like they used to have
The 700 twin engine in the wildcat would have been an incredible atv engine but they never used it.
Do the cats have diff lock again on most models?
LTD and SE have selectable locking front diff.
Never been a fan of Arctic Cat but hats off to them for this complete redesign. Not sure how to find the specs on AC website, but towing capacity of 1050 lbs seems very low for a completely new redesign compared with others. I do not understand why manufacturers are sticking with halogen lights. Steel foot pegs vs aluminum??? The accessibility to the engine is amazing and would be interested in seeing the ride difference with the fuel tank so low. It would be nice to see an earth tone colour scheme from Arctic Cat…..there colours to me are a non starter. Also can see the sticker pealing on a brand new machine so I question the durability of these machines, as Arctic Cat are definitely unreliable or have been for years. I was a huge fan of Can am, but their quality has also dropped in the last 4 years. My sons 2023 Outlander 1000 XMR Max is disgraceful. Machines are more expensive and the attempts to make the machines lighter has significantly impacted longterm durability and reliability. I would really like to see Suzuki get back in the game with a completely redesigned 2up machine in a twin. In closing…..I am impressed with AC for doing this and shaking up the industry.
Can we get prices from base to top of the line for each model reviewed?
Alterra Limited is $10,499 US ($12,399 CDN) and the Mud Pro is $11,599 US ($14,499 CDN)
"Top secret world headquarters" LOL
Glad to see atv stuff not sxs
i await the shootout
Do you any pricing on those units. Nice video
LTD is 11 grand US and $12,400 CDN. MudPro is $11,600 US and $14,500 CDN.
Thanks for info. Keep up the good work
@@allenturner9186 Thanks Allen!
i rode the 600 at my local dealer and found it lacks compared to it cmpetitors. The Can-am and the Polaris both outclass it, as does the CF Moto. They really need to add a sway bar, too much roll in te corners!!!!!
Heck yes. So much body roll. You really have
To hang it in the corners to counter the roll.
Are they still using that speedometer
👍
Yep. Same one from 15yrs ago 😆.
I won't knock them without trying them but I have to say I'm not impressed with what I've seen when I was at the Toronto powersports arctic cat booth. Would love to be proven wrong if I could ever ride one.
As an AC owner, I live the reliability and the fact that when I need to do something like replace a shock bushing, I can for $8 and 15 min. Unlike a Can-Am where you have to buy a new shock.
But where AC screwed up here is pricing. An HL 850 is a few hundred more, or a 570 XMR is less.
Sorry Textron, you pooched the name for a few years, you don't get to charge premium until you prove you've changed managing AC.
@@EC_ATV_Outdoors Gotta agree with you on the premium pricing 👍
I think they're nice looking machines. In the time i had with this unit, i did note a lot of body roll and I find the seating position to be much higher than other units in this class, which coupled with the body roll can be somewhat unnerving in the corners. I'd love to get one at our home base for more extensive testing.
I burnt out on artic cat about 2009 ish they just made poor quality low power machines
I had an arctic cat back in 06 was great machine, it was the V2 model with the kawasaki power plant, it was a great machine tons of power, loads of ground clearance, but I heard alot of crap about the new ones after they got bought out.
Kawasaki power plant was the only reason it was good any new arctic cats are trash they have no power at all
that was not a Arctic engine in the 2006 they did not build engines in 2006 the engine plant was shut down at that time hydro Rebel
Front diff lock??????
LTD and SE feature selectable locking front diff.
Nice looking machines and I would love to buy an ATV made in America but I feel the quality is not as good. An honest long term review of these machines would be nice to see reliability.
Hoping we can get our hands on one of these for more testing. I'm a bit disappointed thst they still don't have sway bars. There's always been quite a bit of body roll on this ATV and I feel like sway bars would help.
The statement they still aren't putting away bars on... My 17 Alterra has a sway bar.
Awesome. My reference was to comments we'd made in the past about Cat refusing to use sway bars on their ATVs. If they did use them and stopped, I'd love to understand the logic behind that decision.
@@dirttraxtv it's odd, I know a few people who remove them because they don't do a lot of speed sections with bends. But they do a lot of rough trails and mud where you want to have as much suspension articulation as possible.
So they should include them, but ideally make it easily removable for those who don't want one.
The old ATV TV you tube channel, he removed the sway bars and I think many watched and followed suit
@@EC_ATV_Outdoors Just tested the OL Max which has front sway bars. Rides so nice through the trails. My feeling is most riders wouldn't mess with it if they had them but you're right, if the option was there to remove, more advanced users could.
@@dirttraxtv I prefer a sway bar. My High Lifter didn't have one, it helping with trails and mud, the HP if the v twin made the fire roads manageable. But I can see my Arctic cat not doing as well since it doesn't have the torque to swing the rear around a corner at speed.
Front sticker is peeling
No price comparison?
I bet you could find the price with one Google search. Probably take you 10 seconds.
Did it for ya. $13,399 CDN for the LTD and $14,499 CDN for the MudPro.
I could have also found all the other info in this video on google but thanks anyways.

Do they make in 1000
No.
Not anymore. The thundercat was a beast back in the day.
its so much Arctic its not funny but you would not tell us who builds the engine the most important part that everyone would love to know even with the Arctic representative there you would not say nore would he could you please and thank you let all of us know who builds the motor for the new Alterra 600 and the all new mud pro once again please and thank you DIRT TRAX is number one in north America on the off road industry so we know you will have no problem answering are one simple Question thank you so so much
Hi Dennis. I saw your other two comments on this video and just to be transparent, I said it straight up at 1:25 and then again at 2:45 that the engine is manufactured in Arctic Cat's St. Cloud Minnesota engine plant. This engine is American made by hard working Americans. Textron does own a German engine company called Weber that does some design and development of engine tech for Textron and likely Cat as well (similar to ROTAX). I can't recall off-hand if this was designed by Weber but I do know the engine itself is American made. Let me know if that is making sense to you. I'm concerned that you didn't catch that in my video. I was certain I was clear about that, but I could be mistaken.
Maybe watch the video!!! DT did a great job clearly discussing engine!!
if kymco is still making the engine its hot garbage, and you can be honest, it sounds like a lawn mower.
Cat engine, made at the St. Cloud engine plant. I metion it in the video twice and in the comments several times 👍
Cat did the bare minimum on the mud pro, nothing revolutionary, nothing exciting, no sex appeal, kind of looks like a kids toy to me. Mud pro with 28” Zillas? This isn’t 2009 anymore, look at what Polaris and can Am bring to the table with tires…. 12% reduction? Need WAY more because most people will go to 30s real quick. Bar riser? Who cares, not snowmobiling on this thing. $11,600 is nuts for what little you’re getting. There’s literally nothing better than grabbing a handful of throttle on a big bore vtwin, can am, Polaris even the dated brute force is a blast to hammer down on. Needless to say I don’t understand Textron’s decision, maybe they don’t want to grab a lot of market share for some reason?
Don't let the looks fool you ! Yeah it's new and looks nice but it's very poorly made with cheap parts. The paint will be falling off and rusted in less than a year.. every cheap plastic suspension bushings will be worn out in a year .. how do I know ? I own a 2017. Everything is poor quality from front to back. Be smart and don't waste your money it will age like Milk !
Arctic cat has been bottom of the barrel garbage for years now they are half owned by bass pro shops and look like cheap Chinese atvs with no power. I would never even consider buying a arctic crap ever.
This machine is mostly manufactured and completely assembled in America 🤷♂️
They aren't owned by Bass Pro.
They are owned by Textron. Textron makes helicopters and military stuff.
They own Cessna (airplanes) Beechcraft (airplanes) Citation Jet Aircraft, BELL helicopters....
So you know exactly jack chit.
Don't post anymore if you don't know a-hole.
