Peppermints are good for forced bonding. They give 5 points even when the horse is full. Other foods just give 1 when the horse is full. Need 50 points for level 1.

I have just run a test on that, it looks like both peppermints and sugar cubes both give 5 bonding points on full stomach (1 extra point every 2 doses if you have the shark tooth trinket). I think you get more points when the horse is hungry, after all you are feeding your beast - but I will need to check that.

Ends up being two Arabians and a Turk.
Thoroughbreds come for the Turkoman breed
Likely could also be a term for top tier bred horses as well as the actual breed of horse
Thoroughbred is a breed of horse but it is also somewhat synonymous with the term “purebred”
A thoroughbred is a term used also on superior horses

Just completed this mission 3-4 days ago and this does still work. From what I noticed while doing it, it will also work with either of the Arabians in the stable, but my preference is always the dark bay Turk. Best thing to do is once you hit level 1 bonding with him, you need to continue bonding until you see the temporary horse icon show up on your mini map, otherwise when you complete the mission the horse won't be waiting for you at the Davies brothers in Clemens Cove. You may have to wait until you take him to the barn before you can stable him, but this trick does still work. Hope this helps!

Still works as of 8/30/2020. Literally just finished doing this. I used peppermints and hay to get him to level 1 and got the temporary horse icon to show up (prior to speaking to the stablehand). Completed the mission, and he was waiting at the horse fence for me! I named him Sir Bennington. :D

@@andrei.ionut77 I don't think you can? Not 100% sure but I never got the option to pat/brush. But if you stand next to him and go into your item wheel, you'll have the option to feed him. I only had to feed him 4 peppermints and 1 hay to get him to level 1 bonding and get the temporary horse icon to appear.

@@andrei.ionut77 Happy to help! I fed him 5 times in the stable and that was enough to get him bonded/temp horse. I fed him 2 additional peppermints at Clay & Clive just for good measure. When the mission was over, I was back at camp and he was still at Clay & Clive. Rode up, took him to the stables, and put my saddle on him. :)

Guys, use carrots!!! I went into the stable just before the guy introduced us to the horses and I already had a level one bonding achieved!! It only took a few carrots!! Holy!! Carrots seem to be the way to go! Good luck, everyone!

Btw the "B" marking will disappear from the horse's rear after burning down the Braithwaite manor. (At least it did in my playthrough)
Edit: saw someone else in the coments claiming that it came off after a number of brushings which is also possible.

for me it came off after about a day in game
idk how it happens but it definitely does, I retrieved it from the stable the other day and it was gone.
maybe time, stabling, or murdering its owners does the trick, I kind of doubt it's brushing though since I brushed the fuck out of my boah and it stayed there.
I even called him bran (after a celtic king - seemed fitting overall) to match the b on his arse... it bugged me a bit in the beginning but I'm almost kinda disappointed it's gone now
I am not a 100 percent sure but I believe Cerberus can be bought in the stable between Rhodes and Emerald Ranch, or stolen with the stable glitch after this mission. Because of this I believe Rockstar Games added a realistic feature, wearing off horses branding after interaction, or some time.
Tip: do the race with the lady that has the thoroughbred to get bonding levels faster

Thanks man! As of 8-22-2021 this still works, BUT it was easier to just feed him Carrots, peppermints, hay, over and over. I got it to level one IN the barn, then two showed up for the mission. At they end he was by my buddy Clay. :) have fun folks.

Hey, Superantonio! (Or do I just call you Antonio?) For starters, I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you and YOUR Red Dead Redemption videos! Entertaining, very informative, and eminently more watchable than the majority of similar channels on CZcams.
Although I am nearing the end of my first playthrough, I have a coworker that is in Chapter 3 of his second. I had told him about 'obtaining' this horse, he followed your instructions carefully and got the horse with no problems. The odd thing is the temperament of this horse. In his instance, he has found that although Cerebus has the speed, handling, and acceleration of a normal Turkoman, his horse has the bravery of an Arabian!!!! In his first playthrough, the gold Turkoman was his horse of choice for hunting or battle, brave and unflinching. The Braithwaite's dark bay is VERY skittish and will buck him off at the slightest sign of danger - snakes, alligators, wolves, etc. (His gold one would never do that!) He tested it against three other horses (Ardennes, Shire, and Red Chestnut Arabian) along the same stretch of road between Van Horn and Saint Denis, and Cerebus was as skittish as the Red Chestnut. At first, he thought it may have been a level I fluke, but he now has the horse up to level IV and the horse is still very skittish. What has your experience been with this horse in terms of bravery? Thanks.
(On a final note, I'm 58 years old and cut my video game teeth on Atari's Pong and Space Invaders in the old arcades, so I'm one of the original video game generation. In all of those decades, I've got to say this is THE best game that I've ever played bar none.)

Last game I spend so much time with was Sid Meyer's Pirates! The C64 version. (and the 13 wasted years of playing multiple MMORPG's)
Can't say anything about this specific Turkoman and it's behaviour because I refuse to use glitches and I am very happy with my stable (Chocolate Roan Dutch Warmblood, Dark Bay Andalusian, Blue Roan Nakota, ...) in any of my playthroughs, so I don't need this. I hunt a lot and explore the entire map down to every little detail, so I really don't need a skittish horse. The "regular" Turkoman that you can get for Arthur however is a very brave horse. (still doesn't replace my Warmblood or Andalusian).

4/27/21 still works, ALSO you can bond with any one horse at the stables until white icon shows up and icon stays throughout rest of mission. after mission is over run to horse and then go to nearest stables.

For me, it worked like this: after selling and passed cutscene, I went to location in jungle as shown in video, I couldn't find the horse there. But I can see temporary horse icon on map located where Hosea is staying in braithways location. I went to braithways location and got this horse by calling him. Just make sure horse has eaten much when you are stay in stable.
All it does is keep you from having to do it at the fence. The mission will play out like normal and he'll be waiting at the horse fence. When I didn't get the white horse in time, I started from checkpoint and there were 2 Cerberus. There's a video on my channel. "2 Cerberus 1 Me"

I really tried and finally succeeded in getting the Missouri Foxtrotter for Arthur. I love that horse. However, the Turkoman is just so pretty and capable. I fear it may be my all time favorite horse.

This still works as of 28 November 2021. TYSM! You saved me $950. I actually had to do it twice though. In my first attempt, when Arthur reached the horse dealers, the Turkoman was missing; only the 2 Arabians appeared onscreen. Thankfully, I saved prior to starting the mission. I named him Bucephalus after Alexander the Great's horse and the branded letter B fits him very well! IIRC his horse was also a Turkoman or something similar :)
Make a manual save before doing this mission. You can only get it on your first play through. I messed up the first time and my most recent manual save was halfway through chapter 2, so I had to restart from there. The second time I tried it, I started feeding him in the stable before talking to the stable hand and the icon never showed up. This time I made a manual save before the mission so I just reloaded that save and tried for a 3rd time. The 3rd time I started feeding him just before talking to the rustler and it worked. So, for some reason this doesn't always work so make sure you make a manual save before the mission.
TL;DR: Make a manual save before the mission, and only start feeding him right before talking to the rustler

Before arriving to the horse sellers, Cerberus was missing… I killed one of the two horses to restart at the latest checkpoint, and he had reappeared. Amazing horse

BTW: If the branding on the horse bothers you, it DOES go away. Simply stable it, save, close game, reload, and it'll be gone.
Yes you still can, along with biscuit. My most successful process for biscuit is to head up from the south/east of moonstone pond, walk to the cabin climb onto tree, drop into cabin and loot leave and see if biscuit is there tried it 5 times in chapter 3 it work 4 out of 5 times.
Also when you can get the mission to help with the protest you can steal beau grays horse if done right I mean.
Also you can ride Bob the horse but it bucks me off if I leave camp. Been doing a lot of testing after I got biscuit. So yeah interesting stuff really
Loved my “Nobu” from Ghost of Tsushima but still can’t compare to my Dark Bay Turkoman named “Rufio”

Yay! Still works! Threw me for a bit cuz I missed the “interact button won’t appear” part, but once I started just going and using food and brush manually it worked fine! Didn’t let me saddle up til I got to a stable which was weird, but hey, trick works! Thanks!

This still works as of july 2022. Get the shark tooth trinket as others mentioned. On my first try the turkoman suddenly disappeared once we got to clay and clive so I didn’t get it. But the second time around I made it my secondary horse while it was still stabled and then just sat on it once we regrouped which made it move to clay and the others and then it worked.
It’s quite easy to steal that horse! You can even steal 2 of those horses there is vid on CZcams how u do it, and yes it still works!! I am in chapter 3 half way, I way doing challenges and when I used fast travel back to camp, at the camp there was a second horse(turkaman) waiting for me as a secondary horse. It never happens before. So I am not sure way, has the new updates anything to do with it but it was strenge! I ended up selling, it doesn’t make any sense to have exactly 2 same horses, at least that’s what I think...
Still works as of 9/12/2022. I did this last year on PS4, and today did it on Xbox. The Turkoman remains one of my favorite horses in Story mode. He’s tall, so hunting and searching for items is easier from a higher perspective. He’s fast too, not much can beat him. Thankful this glitch still exists!

You can do this with the companion glitch. Which means you can get baylock the count and old boy
Can confirm this still works, this horse also has one of the best speed stats in the game for some reason, also I’d recommend getting the shark tooth trinket before this because it saves time by quite a bit
Will go well with the Black Arabian that you still can get chapter 2 from Saint Denis nighttime robbery event

Still working as of 08/24/2021! When you first collect the horse he will be branded on his haunches with the Braithwate “B”. But saving-quitting-reloading, or simply stabling him and taking him back out, will reset his model to a normal Dark Bay Turk without the brand. Don’t worry, it won’t be there forever!

I did this exploit and it worked great but funny thing I stabled the Turkoman and set a different horse as my primary to sell to Clay and Clive and when I set the Turkoman to my primary again the cursive “B” on its right hind leg disappeared and it was just a normal Turkoman at that point. Not upset about it, actually prefer it, but thought I should share my experience. BTW I did this exploit on 9/23/21
Just wanted to add that this still works as of November 2022, I got Cerberus a couple days ago.

one extra thing that mades this horse even more special is that he conservs the braithwaith mark
No it got rid of the mark after I logged on a day after I got it
Somehow I got gold on that mission and stoled Cerberus.

Lol looks like my previous comment about getting Arthur any item or horse got deleted. For the record I don’t hate John. I just prefer NPC John.
This method still working but to keep the Arabians on the stable you need to make a save with the Arabian bond lvl 1 and reload this save with the Arabian, then take it to the stables and the stallion is yours. The only problem is, the Arabians don't show the Manu comand of "stay", "flee" etc...if you whistle he will come but you won't have the menu to tell him to stay at some point but you can brush him and pet it xD

You can glitch in 2 turkomans if you wait too long to steal the white Arabian(and restart check point) after level 1 bonding with Cerberus..
Then you can ride the Cerberus copy after stealing the white Arabian and take the glitch horse as a temp horse..then follow the steps mentioned in the last 2 mins and you get 2 horses free..I sold one to the fence afterwards

I have a very sneaky feeling that the voice actor for the Sheriff's dad at the beginning of the mission "Horse Flesh For Dinner" is the same voice actor for the Chief at the Wapiti Indian Reservation as well.. Both sound very similar, if not the same to me! Correct me if I'm wrong.

6/26/2022 Litarally just got this horse first time ever and I’m on my 4th play through lmao!! In the past I couldn’t get it to bond because I didn’t know about the weapon wheel methods🤦🏻♂️🤦🏻♂️ so now I can go get the Gold Turkoman in St Denis too lol! Thanks for the video @superantonio 👍🏼‼️

Yes I give my horse a peppermint in the morning Arthur has a peppermint in the morning to keep his breath from not stinking lol I just thought it would be a good use for the peppermint
bks420 bks420 I feed my horses, I always have a spare with me in story mode) every time I wake when camping. New horses get a peppermint to help speed up bonding. My regular gets a sugar cube. Side note I’m 58 years old and 420 friendly👍🏻

I think Rockstar patched the method where you feed it before speaking to Clay, but it only took like 5 carrots for the BA to bond with me

I just did this 2 days ago so as of march 2023 it’s still available.
When he didn't whistle the second horse the icon went White I yelled at the video.
Cool, thanks, got the Turkoman. I thought I blew it, I shot the damn Arabian while trying to rope it, luckily it didn't die. Then, when I got to horse fence Turkoman was gone. Wnen I rode back to look for him I mission failed, but luckily when I skipped check point he was back and I was able to successfully bond and get extra horse.
Might restart the whole game to get this horse

can get white arabian in mountains and black arabian from a robbery instance in st denis..turk is the only one work stealing... and dont die with 2 horses following..you may glitch and lose one.

🐴When you get the horse you can't put a saddle on soo you have to go too a stable and put a saddle there but the B on the horse will disappear once you load your game with the horse🐴
