-------------LYRICS------------
5th of May, V day is just around the corner
1945 the Fuhrer reign is at its end
Jenny at the gates, as the SS open fire
There's no time to waste, the final battle has begun
After the downfall, a castle besieged
Facing the Nazis awaiting relief
Gangl and Lee and their men set the prisoners free
An it's the end of the line of the final journey
Enemies leaving the past
And it's American troops and the German army
Joining together at last
One last fight, it's the death throes of the 3rd Reich
Justice shall be done, the final battle remains
Ammo is running low, they're depleting their machine guns
Every bullet counts until surrender is announced
After the downfall, a castle relieved
Defeating the Nazis who held them besieged
Gangl and Lee and their men set the prisoners free
An it's the end of the line of the final journey
Enemies leaving the past
And it's American troops and the German army
Joining together at last
From the foot of the alps to the shores of the sea
From the foot of the alps to the shores of the sea
From the home of the brave, from the land of the free
From the foot of the alps to the shores of the sea
An it's the end of the line of the final journey
Enemies leaving the past
And it's American troops and the German army
Joining together at last
[x2] - Hudba
The song is about the Battle at Castle Itter. The only battle in World War Two where American and German troops fought the same side to rescue political prisoners from the remains of the Waffen SS.
No wonder there isn't any footage.
They didn't have any cameras. Any reporters would've been in Berlin. Dead. Or with the bulk of the US forces.
Lord Kaisertum of All Creation Which is quite the shame - I would have loved to see the footage of German soldiers alongside Americans.
And not even fighting, just footage of them sitting together.
Michael VPS Actually...
Michael VPS Well. It wasn't fun and games. The Americans had 14 troops, the German Army had 10,as well as one tank,4 French prisoners, and 1 SS Captain. With 1 Austrian Resistance fighter and 2 German soldiers in reserves, for a total of 29 soldiers in combat and 3 in reserves. Against 150 Waffen-SS soldiers. The Sherman tank that provided machine gun support was destroyed,Gangl was shot, ammunition was running low by the afternoon. They only survived because an American relief battalion rescued them as the Waffen-SS was breaching the castle walls. 4 German Heer soldiers died in the attack, and 50 SS were killed as well.
the battle for Castle Itter REALLY needs a movie made about it
EXACTLY-
yes
agreed
They should get somebody badass to play Gangl like Dolph Lundgren...
That got me excited. Hope it will be good fingers crossed :)
Song is awesome. But we really need a WW2 video which fits the tale.
seriously...
Yup - it is about German and US soldiers (and some random celebrities from France) fighting side-by-side against SS.
+Wyczesany Bóbr and Austrian resistance
+Nick Walsh no, just Google it
Scenes from Dirty Dozen would work nice
I have only recently discovered Sabaton.... "Forgive me Father for I have sinned."
Sean Peterson metallica too
Sean Peterson what i wanted top saying was me too but why is metallica a sin?
he meant, not knowing Metallica is a sin
Sabaton is actually a group that makes history songs, they're actually pretty awesome
+Lord RavenFire passed my history tests coz of these boys. Best band going
This song is about one of the wierdest battles of World War II. Frankly I believe this batlle was the strangest I ever encountered. On May 5th, Nazi forces officially surrendered to the Allies, thus ending the war. Word came to the American 23rd tank battalion and 12th Armored division that there were Allied prisoners of war being held at Castle Itter, and were ordered to mobilize and immediately liberate the prisoners. Among the prisoners were former French prime ministers and even a famous French tennis player by the name of Jean Borotra. The Americans also had the aid of Austrian Resistance fighters and newly formed German self-defense forces as well. The 17th SS Panzergrenadier Division however was in the area, and didn't quite get the memo that the war was over. So they attacked the Americans. It was the only battle of World War 2 where Austrian, French, American and German forces fought along side each other and successfully defended the castle against the Nazis. It still remains the "strangest" battle of the Second World War.
weird but brave and valiant
I still think the one where De'Gaulle practically reversed through the German encirclement is a close second.
pretty cool
the strangest was the one were Canadian-American forces attacked a Japanese island where there were no Japanese soldiers and killed each other
@L'Orso Totalworriano, which battle is this one? Any more information about that?
What is it that is so endearing about seeing situations where mortal enemies team up to fight overwhelming odds? Every time this happens in films and books, I always get a huge pump in seeing 2 opposing parties combine to become a fearsome, unstoppable force of nature.
When I figured out this song was about a real battle where such a trope occurred and between US soldiers and Wehrmacht troops no less, it made it instantly 10x more epic.
Keep in mind the political prisoners the Germans and US army were helpign had a lot of famous people there too including French politicians and even a Olympic runner iirc. It's crazy how a movie haven't been made of this yet
This battle essentially saw a few Wehrmacht soldiers and some americans fighting on the same side protecting prisoners against the SS
It was a very strange battle apparently. Imagine being one of those American soldiers fighting with the same people who where trying to kill you just a few months ago.
Imagine being one of those Wehrmacht soldiers who just lost the war and fighting with the victors.
+James Pennington The most badass part? There was a Waffen-SS Hauptsturmfuhrer fighting with the Americans. He didn't bring any troops either. Fucking legendary..
just imagine: you are a german soldier, defeated by the allies. now you fight side by side with them against your own people to protect some prisoners. this is something that need to get respect.
i am german an i am proud of those brave man.
tbf overall there were "good guys and bad guys" in more or less every army and armed force... 've seen pictures of Waffen-SS Soldiers taking care of wounded russians and civilians... 've seen pics of Waffen-SS Soldiers doing the exact opposite... dito Wehrmacht... Red Army... even US Forces... (Bombing german submarines saving the Survivors of the HMS Laconia... guess what they killed... nope no germans... but Survivors of the HMS Laconia... got a medal for "sinking german submarines" though...), Brits... some crimes get more light then others becaus eof one reason or another... some dont ever get to light... one side might not have commited as many because their soldiers werent exposed to those kinds of propaganda the whole time... yet imho... there is no completely clean army anywhere in history...
The Waffen-SS in some parts ended up being more of the german foreign legion... they had members from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium (both Wallonia and Flanders), Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Galicia, Georgia, Hungary, India, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Romania, Russia (including Cossack and Tatar, Turkic SSR Republics), Slovakia,
Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Ukraine, Asian Regiment, Arab Regiment, the United States (15-20 volunteers) and a small number of British troops in their foreign units... among german members there also were people that at first werent considered fit to serve in the Wehrmacht...
it's so easy to claim that each member of XY was an evil maniac... yet in so many cases it's wrong... it's so easy to say person xy comitted this and that because he was an evil maniac without including possible other circumnstances... for example him possibly facing a charge for treason for not comitting it when it wouldnt have changed a thing and it would still have been carried out... and the Propagnada the soldiers had heard which mostly dehumanized the enemy...
one of the biggest jokes in history is: The Wehrmacht overall seems to have been the best organized resistance to hitler... not only counting Stauffenberg... they had multiple assassination plans... one before Munich... they send Chamberlain a note "if you dont give in we will kill hitler" (more or less)... then one before the Assault on France (because they thought germany wouldnt stand a chance)... again it was ignored and after that Hitler mostly became to popular (and they saw their fears not confirmed but instead a decisive, crushing victory)... there were multiple other organized attempts later on (iE during a showing of new winter uniforms a soldier wanted to blow himself up during one of those... grenades in the backpack... but since htey wanted to Get Hitler, Göring and Göbbels they had to wait... then one of the allied bombings destroyed the uniforms... and so on)
but btw... this guy despite being a Waffen-SS member has done an astonishing deed... holding out against soviet counterattacks at Luzhno for 3 days... alone.. injured... without provisions or supplies... taking out 13 tanks and nearly 100 soviet soldiers...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fritz_Christen
overall i hope Sabaton will make a song about the Battle of Hurtgenforest and maybe a few more songs about aces and the likes... for germany i would go with Otto Carius (Tiger commander, author of Tigers in the Mud, passed away last year), Kurt Knispel (Tiger II commander, top scoring tank ace of all time, was known for protecting PoWs against Officers and most likely only his skills as Tank commander saved him from punishement... died during the last days of the war), Erich Hartmann (top scoring fighter ace of all time, post WW II was put on Kangaroo court by the soviets with fabricated charges after he didnt want to join them... bid his 10 years in gulag... there was atleast one riot by his co-prisonders to get him from solitute imprisonment iirc)
Battle of Castle Itter one of the last battles on the Western Front where the American Troops of the 12th Armored and 142nd Infantry division, Mutinous Wehrmacht and rebellious French POWs fought off the remains of the 17th SS Panzergenader Division at Castle Itter outside the town of Worgl Austria for an entire day
funny fact one of those french pows who fought was a famous tenisser
And another one was former French Prime Minister Édouard Daladier
And one of them was Maxime Weygand who was the commander of the french army from may 1940 to the armistice. All the prisoner were ancient minister of the Vichy governement.
Was there not an SS on the allied side aswell in that battle?
+kamikazadude2 yes indeed also a austrian résistant, this battle is a real mess
Steven Spielberg needs to make a movie about this battle
Edit: yes I know the songs about the battle of castle Itter, and not the one in the video. I meant a movie about the battle of castle Itter.
Personally, I wish that the director of Kelly's Heroes was still alive to do it.
Yeah, we can try and stop the negative waves of today
James Beckett Sick reference, bro.
I looked it up and unfortunately the director of Kelly's Heroes died 2 years ago. :(
this jew making a movie about GOOD germans ??? never !
yeah becouse germans disappeared for a while and nazis have taken their country
I really like how they make a distinction between "German" and "Nazi" in the song, it just adds more depth.
I can't stop listening to this song
is that melda ditz in your profile picture?
I too
You still listening to it?
@@scottishbananaclan on occasion
Its just sooo fucking melodic. Awesome!
dude wtf with you photo ¿?
its the most offensive pic in the internet
that photo
love ya pic mate keep up the good work
one word for this video MERICA!
So much freedom and democracy in this video
actually its them running and fighting for their lives against people they were trying to help
ThePeaceMaker28 Muuuriiiiicaaaaa fuck yeah!
"trying to help"
DoccEff
wait no i think i might be stupid unless americans were handing out the food on the truck
i think that was the un
Finally sabaton made a song for this battle
Edit: not the video. The song. The battle of castle Itter
It's not for Mogadishu it's for the final battle of WW2
lol you thought I was talking about the videoXD
Watch Aterro Dominatus,
scout19tf2 yes. World War Two had helicopters, m16s, and many modern weapons. Along with that, the Nazis were in Iraq
The Winter Pyro ffs I was talking about the song
English lyrics have been added to the video. Click CC below the video to enable them. :)
moonumental what is this Song about
It's about the Battle for Castle Itter, one of the last battles of WWII and the only known battle to have German and American troops on the same side.
ArcherCodeDelta ok because the Video was wierd to the lyrics
ArcherCodeDelta last battles in Europe
Lyrics are wrong, it should say:
AND ITS AMER-R-RICAN TR-ROOPS AND THE GER-R-R-RMAN AR-R-RMY! JOINING TOGETHER AT LAST
This song is about the strangest battle ever american soldiers german soldiers former French prime minister and tennis star fighting together against the ss
WTF IS GOING ON!?: The Battle.
Yep, battle for Itter castle was really bizarre. :D
Yes, Wermacht and US 12th Armored division fought together against Nazis holed up in Castle Itter.
The choice of video is so puzzling. You couldn't even find any WWII related footage? From the infinite amount of shows, movies, actual footage and so on? It adds to the quality of the video when we feel like the content is relevant.
Didnt now the ss had attack chopper
They didn't, the entire montage is from a retarded US war movie set in Iraq.
cannonfodder343
lol i know they did not have these
JaroZawiercie
Oops. My mistake, I assumed it happened there, since, you know, at the time of the movie being made everyone was super hyped to go kill thousands of civilians in Iraq.
Well, yeah. US operations in Somalia are less known to the public because mass media were focusing on Iraq.
Also, the movie is based on a real battle of Mogadishu
Maybe someday someone will make a Sabaton music video without just throwing the music over an anachronistic film.
Rorkes drift.
Cliffs of Galipoli
Price of a Mile
Fields of Verdun
Attack of the dead men
Red Baron
Sparta
Shiroyama (kinda)
Hill 3234
Carolean Prayer
Carolus Rex
Winged Hussars
It's really irritating. So many are clips from crusades when it's about events 400 years later.
2:07 *showing the men without legs* and singing "from the foot of the alps"
This song always gives me goosebumps like no other.
The song is a clear 10/10!
Awesome insta-like for direkt upload
Thanks man :)
Herrmann Tom
my official song for the last day of school
Amazing song and amazing battle! The video should be WW2 related though.
I hav waited so long that Sabaton would make a song about Itter Castle. Was not disappointed!
Really weird choice of video material though on moonumental's part
this song/battle shows that even the enemy can be a friend when it counts
I love the video. The only complaint I have to make is that it doesn't match the song at all. The song is about the final battle fought among the allies and the Germans in the final days of 1945.
Castle Itter
actually its not just the allies in that battle the allies fought alongside the german army against the ss
I swear, these videos consistently have almost nothing to do with their source material. Same with the non-official video of The Last Stand with all the views
While I've seen a good video for this song, it's hard to do since there is no real footage or dramatization of this battle. But yeah Black Hawk Down isn't even close to the same time frame.
Black hawk down is a video to use for this because they where make a last stand until reinforcements arrived
You can truly hear the emotion in this song.
Danke!
Sabato 4 ever !
this was famously called the Weirdest battle in all of WWII
Goosebumps even after hours of loop o_o thanks!
Don't you hate it when you get confused and think ww2 is the Iraq war because there really similar wars?
Sexy Putin are dumb how can you get changed confused with that
James Riley ok?
i've just discovered this group...like today...and im binge listening to all their music. I cant believe they've evaded me for so long. History + Metal = BrainGasm
The best song from The last stand.
good video
Thx man :)
Where is this video from? It looks interesting.
Black Hawk Down
Weve got a black hawk down

Yeah, I remember this battle...
Salute from Finland, brothers in arms!
By the way, the name of this movie is Black Hawk Down if you would like to still watch it ;)
such an amazing song
So great
this lyrics, this sog and this album are MOONUMENTAL!!!!
I can picture those few men fighting off the SS, Jenny firing away until a 88 took her out of service, the lone radioman inside her escaping the would be metal tomb and joining the others and a tennis player taking a uniform and running the gauntlet to reach allied lines with news
Great song, great movie, and great video, brah.
great !!!
Great song and great video
its a pity that the video doesnt match the song, but the song matters and thats the points. Ive finally found a perfect song in the album :) thanks for upp!
this is one of there best song
-deep inhale and slow exhale- mmmm..... 'Merica.
Wat
Well ok, now I know how to do that
*'MERICA*
+wilson trooper either you're a little kid or you're brain-dead. regardless, you aren't convincing anybody. I struggle to understand how you are so bad at spelling.
It's me or the intro it's almost same with "Night of the Demon" by Demon?. Nice song. Keep up the great work Sabaton
love it
Wow! I've never heard of this battle before this song. Very interesting.
I love this music
Så jävla bra!
sabaton siempre lo mejor
this song has something of Europe's "Final Countdown" to it...
the synth part
It also reminds me of the intro of Demon - Night of the Demon
+Nikos Vasileiadis
exactly!
What the hell? It's almost exactly the same!
+TheCarDetailer seriously, the intro rif
Super piosenka i teledysk😉😉😉😉Helikopter w ogniu
There's just something...beautiful, about seeing these massive, modern warhorses as they float towards their targets...
Unless you're the enemy, of course. Then I'm guessing it's pretty scary...
What is the movie used as base for the video?
Also, there needs to be a game (or a mod to an existing one) featuring the Battle for Castle Itter.
Sabaton is a nice band
I swear this guys makes all his videos one major conflict ahead
Every album has its sad song
de best song ever
Why's the video about those US Marines raiding Mogadishu? The song is about WW2, not a bunch of Somali Pirates being annihilated by the US.
lmao. I share the sentiment.
correction, US Army Rangers, Delta Force, and the Pakistani UN Peacekeepers.
andrew shepherd
Oh really? I thought they're Marines lol
Pakistani UN Peacekeepers?
I suppose that explains why they just abandoned the soldiers in the end...
Code Gaming yeah, youre right, I forgot about the two snipers. can't recall what their names were
What movie is shown in the video?
Do you have for all Sabaton songs an Video?
oh my god this is so fucking awesomeee i love it
zajebista robota 👌
Partially sounds like an anime intro :D
Battle for Castle Itter :-3
As one brave soldier said:
''Maybe you are stronger, but we are in castle! Die you fucking Nazi's! pew pew pew pew pew!)
These are, seriouslly inspiring words...
What´s for a movie is the one you used here?
what video is the clips from?
guys can you tell name in the movie from the video i dont remember the name i want to atch yhe movie
Glory to the Heroes
Would absolutely love an extended chorus version.
fucking beautiful song. My favorite of all time.
Marines!!!
I never heard of Castle Itter although I'm German but glad to hear that Wehrmacht fought against SS at last!
Bernhard Elvikowski love your propic with this comment Ahahahahah
what movies are in the video
Awesome! What the film is this?
And it's the end of the line of the magic journey
Enemies leaving the past
And it's a one of the Malfoys and the Dumbledore's Army
Joining together at last
good
Black Hawk Down ? Nice video (sarcasm)
With the weirdness of the story, and the characters in the battle Tarantino should make the movie about Castle Itter. Think he would do a great job.
