I love the fact he has the grace both to admit and then stress the point that while everyone remembers that amazing goal that completely mugged a defender that that defender got the better of him on occasions that aren't memorable, would've been really easy for him to just take the plaudits on that one.

Always used to view Joe Cole as the most talented English player. Not your typical English ball crossing and dependability on physical strength...there was flair to his style of play. He was different.

That's a little bit cliched really and England have always produced Joe Cole type player over the years, just as the foreign teams have always produced their fair share of big plodders and physical kickers, the same as England have too.
@@amazed66 On the whole though, the English mentality and style of play is like what I said. Watching the EPL vs La Liga proves it for instance. It's institutional. I like Jadon Sancho atm but he has shone in Germany. Can't think of many English Joe Cole type of players.
@@torresq Alan, Ball, John Barnes, Peter Barnes, Peter Beardsley, Stan Bowles, Bobby Charlton, Steve Coppell, Laurie Cunningham, Tony Currie, Duncan Edwards, Tom Finney, Paul Gascoigne, Johnny Haynes, Glen Hoddle, Alan Hudson, Kevin Keegan, Matt Le Tissier, Rodney Marsh, Stanley Matthews, Steve McManaman, Paul Merson, David Rocastle, Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Jermaine Tennant, Dave Thomas, Chris Waddle, Jack Wilshere, Frank Worthington and Ian Wright to name a few would all be considered non-typical cliched English players.
Then you have Germany and players like Robert Huth, Carsten Jancker, Per Mertesacker and Shkodran Mustafi who are not exactly blessed with silky skills really, are/were they?
English players are vastly outnumbered by non-English players in the PL so if watching the PL compares unfavourably to watching La Liga then it can't really be due to English players considering they are in the minority and have been for several years too.
@@amazed66 Your list of players is all over and not relevant. Not particularly skillful or technical. No need to bash on the Germans you mentioned where 3 of them are defenders. There is no basis of comparison. I mentioned the EPL because it's where most of the English players are vs abroad where they don't often go.

played against that youth team in ireland he was sublime he flicked the ball over the boys head it was ridiculous but that west ham team had this boy upfront called amos foyena anyone remember him he was special i was sad to see him not make it got player of the year at the milk cup the boy was SPECIAL

Joe Cole was such a great player, shame he never really reached his potential. He was just as capable of doing anything that Hazard did, just a shame he didn't have the focus and commitment. The way Joe talks about Eden as a youth is exactly how everyone spoke about Joe
My dad God rest him was a Chelsea fan I'm utd. He was adamant Joe Cole would be a better player than cr7 lol not quite, still quality, scored the best England goal I've ever seen. Enjoy retirement

Tbh Joe Cole was one of those players who are great in training but it doesn't quite translate in matches. Still a Good Premier League player but always felt he was always a bit short in certain aspects from being Top level.. Maybe because he always had the talent throughout the juniors showing off the tricks. When you get to the top level the tricks barely play out. Someone like Robben is just different level.

But what a top player Joe Cole was in his day, one of the most skilful English players we’ve ever produced. I think he’ll always be remembered for that goal against Sweden in the World Cup. A great career, enjoy your retirement.
@Ayoub Nait naa Gerrard has so much more all round attributes than Hazard. Very different types of players but as all round ability. Heading, shooting ,tackling etc Gerrard easily the more complete player.

@Ayoub Nait mate Gerrard is better strength, heading shooting tackling. Only thing hazard does better is dribble. Gerrard has scored every single type of goal in his career. His finishing is as good as Hazard all day long if not better.
