While the Myanmar’s junta head Min Aung Hlaing was smiling and talking with the civilised leaders of the ASEAN, back home, people were being arrested, tortured and brutally killed. An interview by the RFA (Burmese - Subtitled in English) on the 24 April to one Miss Shwe Yamin Htet highlighted the nature of the military coup in Myanmar. A young 17 year old Miss Shwe Yamin Htet and her mother were arrested while walking in Sanchaung Township in Yangon, on 14 April. Suddenly a military truck pulled over and dragged them into the truck. She was sent to Shwepyitha interrogation centre. She saw many young men being taken to the torture room and came out barely able to walk with bruises all over the faces. On April 18, a 19 year old Burmese Miss Hsu Lin Htet arrived. She was asked whether she has a boyfriend or not. She answered that she has one. When asked about her ethnicity, she thought they have asked about her boyfriend and answered Muslim. The soldiers became extremely angry and said “So you want to become a Muslim’s wife”, and blindfolded her and took her to the torture room. She was badly tortured. She told Shwe Yamin Htet that another girl called Miss Khin Nyein Thu was even worse than her. Khin Nyein Thu arrived at 4am and was brutally tortured. The soldiers beat her with a metal pipe and ordered her to spread her legs and kicked her groin (private part) with their boots, and were sexually assaulted. Her face was badly bruised, lips split, and barely able to walk. She has also wounds on the head, bruised hips, and her eyes were shut from being punched very hard. Her private part was bleeding due to the heavy kicks from the soldiers. Miss Shwe Yamin Htet said that they have helped her to eat a bit. Miss Shwe Yamin Htet also said that as there was no medical treatment, she is worried that Miss Khin Nyein Thu’s condition would worsen and deteriorate further into a critical condition. As you can see, while the junta leader was all smiles and saying that he is saving Myanmar, in reality, he is killing children, arbitrarily arresting people, killing with impunity, torturing people and the lists go on and on. This man needs to be punished severely by the people of Myanmar as well as the International Community. He should not be recognised as legitimate by any country in the world. Please boycott this non-human murderer and a monster.
