Its around $120 in Germany. Perfectly acceptable for a 16 yo Cambeltown. Not something I will rush out to buy again though.

Same here, I'm not a huge Kilkerran fan but I found myself with all four 16yr old bottles (2020-2023). The 2023 is my favorite so far! When I revisited the earlier bottlings, I noticed that they really opened up nicely. Cheers 🥃 👍

I'm fond of this one too mate. Problem is most folk can't get their hands on a bottle. Buddy, I still have that old Kilkerran matured in the Calvados cask to tease you with. It has your name on it one way or another. If I open it I'll send you some and we can compare notes. I'd sell it to you if I thought you'd open it. WT 😉

I haven’t tried 2023 version, but 2022 version in the beginning was just okay for me. I put it away for 7 months when the bottle was halfway down. It became an amazing and complex whisky. I recommend you guys to put it away and revisit. Cheers!

Terrific review guys! I did enjoy this Kilkerran (half-way through the bottle) but I agree there isn't a wow factor. You are both absolutely right on with your thoughts on nosing and tasting on your palette. I like it but it isn't fantastic. I wanted one for sure but would I buy more? No. I prefer the 12! Fabulous review as always! Thanks Dustin and Mike!! You guys crack me up!! Have an awesome day!! 🙂

Hi Christine, I left a comment you might enjoy. My point being is how much 'wow factor' is there to go around? Seriously, how much whisky has 'wow factor?' Even excellent whisky struggles for that status.

This was 160 all in for me and i’m happy I got one. As soon as these come in, they sell out. Springbank 15 is now totally unattainable in my area. Right now there are people that bribe clerks in stores and will buy cases of Springbank and then sell them abroad for 10 times the price.

I got lucky to find this and the SB on the shelf at retail. In the NY metro area most shops are not shy about price gouging.
That being said, it's a 46%, high-reputation whisky. If that's what you want to spend your money on?? an 86 is fine score.
They are both still closed because I'm usually reaching for more CS indie bottles or peat. I think the collectability of independents is much less and the drams are better, so that's what I pour.
If I had to say, The KK heavily peated or the 12 (@$75) gets my vote. Even though $110 is alot for the NAS. I'm willing to go $150 for a 10 year HP KK which should be right around the corner.

You point out the blue on the label, but you describe the 2022 bottling. The blue first appeared on the 2022 bottling and has been carried over in 2023... I enjoy my 2022 and have yet to try the 2023.

Pair of Gringos from Ohio. What do you know about whisky? I really like Kilkerran 16 but it depends how much it costs. I got mine at British retail and it was fair. Would I pay more than £100? I doubt it. It sells out super fast but not as fast as Springbank 15. I actually think it's better than Springbank 15.
Strike me dead for such blasphemy but back in the days before Springbank was a recognised religion, the 15 year old would sit on the shelves like an unwanted orphan. It was almost universally unloved and considered the low point of the Springbank line up. The 10 was far more popular. I think Keith probably loved it but that's Keith for you. Isn't it funny how ownership of a scarce commodity can change peoples perceptions. People these days would swap a testicle for a bottle of Springbank 15. Unless you live in certain parts of Scotland or are a friend of a retailer with an allocation you'll never get a bottle any more in the U.K.
Anyway, final words to the Kilkerran 16. It's their little review after all. (Shoo, Springbank, go away.) Fellas, are we always to be 'blown away' or have 'wow factor' in every glass of whisky? Most whisky I drink is pretty enjoyable. All I ask is that it has a level of complexity and that's not a very high bar. I'll admit I've had a few haven't hit that bar but they were signposted 40% stuff. Most of the whisky that we drink, that is to say people that review and leave lengthy WT comments, drink pretty good stuff. We really do and we ought to be aware of, what Ralfy calls, 'palate fatigue.' I've been around the whisky block and for me to find 'wow factor' is when I find a bottle that tastes better than I thought it would. That's quite rare. Oops, no mention of Kilkerran after all: Your just a vehicle for my musings apart from the fact that you are a fine whisky, even if we're not quite 'Blown Away.' It's good whisky guys - drink and enjoy. WT 😄

To be fair Springbank 15 has drastically gotten better the last few years. Went from a bottle I didn't buy to one I get backups of. No fomo needed, just springbank changing up the 15. Cheers Welsh.

If the 2023 batch, is majority Sherry cask, surprisingly... obviously refill. Lile 60-65%? Also some Rum casks in the mix, which I think gave it the edge for me over feeling a bit so-so on the 2022 batch. Still, has to hit the palate right on the right day or I'm not always loving Kilkerran as much as I used to. But for the price, 2023's 16yo was very good price to quality ratio.
    Cheers fellas!

That's also a lot more expensive than the Kilkerran in the U.K. The Enigma is not generally available and limited too. It's horses for courses. Plenty of folk will prefer stuff to the Kilkerran but it's a matter of personal taste.
