      maybe you tell them that 3 eq band is too few. for speaker and headphone correction there should at least 10 EQ bands with left and right independent EQ for 2 stereo output channels . so not all channels need this. Eq should be dynamic. when on channels not use EQ it can use more on other channels

      I.7k Jesus Christ that is a lot, all I want is to have my Yamaha hs8 plugged in and atria key lab 49 keyboard and MacBook Pro and one xld mic tbh. the thing that got me with my first audio interface focus rite scarlet 2i2 is that audio is much louder and I love that because I have shit hearing but with my MacBook Pro m3 max I plug in my audio technica mx50 and they sound quite loud but I don't think as lopped as with my windows pc but I'm not 100% there's so many cables I need to change its a bit annoying. I need usb type c to usb b which is 2. and I need usb type c to usb type c for my GoPro battery charger. I have new Alienware aw3423wdf monitor and used displayport to type c and the HDR is weird and not correct but its alright ai guess but not perfect I must say as I don't see real HDR as it looks standard definition. when I use the monitor with my i5 Skylake 6400 and GTX1070 it works good but ive noticed I need better GPU like 3070 at least and plan to make a new build with DDR 5 ram as the build I have is 2015 but still quite good. my motherboard Asus b150m doesn't do usb type c so that's shit. also why the hell do we have to have antennas on motherboards for wifi? my MacBook Pro doesn't and when I search networks it picks up more networks than my pc network wifi card., I just bought my first m.2 Samsung 970 eco plus 1tb and I love it for my games but its full; and want more m.2 slots. my audio technics mic at2035 I think it is the model, isn't good for screen recording gaming and typing on keyboard and mouse as it picks up sound so I heard to get a proper gaming headset mic with direct voice input like.

    If these are out of budget it's worth remembering that old RME interfaces STILL WORK because they write their own drivers and do not brick or obsolete their devices, to their great credit.
    As a result my RME UFX from FOURTEEN years ago works exactly as it did when first purchased.

      Yes, RME products are a high value. Even 2nd hand. I bought HDSP9652 and now RayDAT 2nd hand and it still wasn't cheap, but after a couple of decades of using their audio cards you just can't use anything else. The driver is rock solid on any OS. So usable, transparent in the best way, all ways, and good to use until it dies or you die first. ;)

      Gear past 15 years old is very risky. Capacitors wear out over time. And, because most electronic techs are nothing more than thieves, you're better off buying new gear or gear not over five years old .

    •  Před 5 měsíci

      Well, for most companies I'd say that's true, but RME stuff just seems to keep working. @@SubmergeEmerge 🤷‍♂

      @noth606 Před 4 měsíci

      @@SubmergeEmerge Old low end elco caps do fail, but there are many 50yo caps out there still truckin like the day they were made. There is something called the free market, where guys do cap replacements for fixed fees using the best caps on the planet, or any caps you like. You really should get out more ;-). I used to do that sort of stuff years ago, you could learn to do it yourself too, as an option - it really isn't that hard.
      Most techs aren't thieves, although some as charitably put 'iffy' - but you can make deals with people. On the other hand, if replacing $5-10 worth of caps takes an hour and a half to do because of disassembly and reassembly of some wonky case, don't expect it to be $10 total. No one is preventing you from doing it yourself, you'll need a few hundred worth of gear though.

    I've owned an RME HDSP MADI card for about 12 years now. I've got it paired with an SSL Alpha MADI AX converter. All running on Linux. RME is the best company to buy interfaces from. Although I will never trust a digitally controlled volume knob. I've had too many jump scare moments when I thought my speakers were going to light on fire. For that I suggest the Coleman Audio M3.

    Cheers, really clear video. I have this interface and am so happy with it - but didn't know about ARC usb remote, that's so great! Toggling the daw window is one of the tiny annoyances I have, as it just adds a few clicks every time to the very frequent functions I need (mute main output, set mic gains and turn on/off phantom power) - I preferred having these on the front panel of the hardware when I had a larger interface. But as I travel so much, I live with that. I agree it's great knowing you'll never be forced into buying another interface due to driver issues in future.

      People say RME is expensive. Yes they are. But there is a difference between expensive because it deserves to be, and because "audiophile talk" or "exclusivity talk". More than 20y ago I thought RME products were exclusive, but then I bought one. And I'm not wealthy by any standard. They got me hooked pretty much because the driver worked great in any OS and the hardware is made rock solid, no compromises. Repairable even, to an extent.

How do you monitor the singer with only one headphone out? Through the SSL? I connected a Presonis 4 headphone preamp into 5&6 and I monitor from the main 7/8 headphone output. This is the clearest and most useful walkthrough of TotalMix that I've seen, thank you. I'll have snapshots for default, a few recording modes, jamming / idea capture, and live streaming. You've also made a great case for adding ARC USB; while iPad control certainly is enough, having a tactile mini-console on the desktop is very appealing. For peace of mind, I am evaluating both UCX II and the new UFX III. In your demo you fairly quickly fill the available I/O on the UCX II. Also, working mainly at home I like the stable UFX III 1U form factor with built-in PS, and ability to have both DUREC and ARC USB always connected. While the cost difference gives pause, it's easier to justify knowing I'll have this interface for many years. Best regards

      UFX3 replaces most the gear. Much cheaper to buy it up front. Unless you're recording orchestras, it has all the I/O you'll ever need. I returned the UCX2 and actually saved money with the UFX3 by not having to buy all the extra gear. It's the best stand alone unit on the market. That and a laptop is about all you will need.

    Wow just stumbled across your channel for the 1st time!! What a fantastic walkthrough. I am currently wanting to upgrade from and Apollo Twin (Mk1) and have heard good things about RME. I have heard the Apollo Twin X( latest model) and it sounds great, but am wondering does the conversion and the preamps of the RME top that? I have also been researching RME ADI-2 Pro FS R Black Edition but am not sure if this is the right option-as whilst it has great converters, I am not sure it will be great for tracking vocals etc. Also the added appeal of the ADI-2 is the great headphone amp! I am currently using the Neumann NDH 20, so a good headphone amp is a must! What would you recommend?

      I use the same headphones and the UCX2 amp is plenty powerful, I only use maybe 40% of the volume and its very loud. so you would be fine with the phones. Preamps on the new Apollos are really good but I haven't had a chance to compare. If you want to get into the UAD world, you would have to go that route. I currently track in with mostly analog so any UAD sound I need I use the Native plugins in the session. Thanks for watching.

    I've been using RME products since the 90s (approx. 15 different audio interfaces / mic preamps; like DIGI 32/8, 3xMultiface + HDSP PCI & CARDBUS, Fireface 800, HDSP 9652, Octamic, Fireface 400, Fireface UFX + BRC, Octamic 2, Babyface, Babyface Pro, Fireface UCX2... ). If there have ever been technical problems, they have always turned out to be mac or pc hardware failures. RME hardware just gets better like good wine as it ages (with driver & firmware updates).
    TotalMix and especially TotalMix Remote and DIGICheck are great tools included in the package.

    Total mix is totally overwhelming at first, but once you wrap your head around Ins/SoftOuts/Outs + Routing Matrix concept, you start to see how genius and Totally Flexible it is. It's quite important to understand it completely to avoid any "what's up? why is it not working?" moments while working and just wanting to record something. If you have a hard time figuring it out, dedicate an afternoon to making presets and write down what they're doing. That's what I do with clients who can't understand it. If using Linux like me, I worked with a HDSP-9652 for a long time, and now I'm using RayDAT. If using Linux, you can use RME products (even though not officially supported) and that's great! Being Class Compliant is great, but not a necessity with RME.

    I'm a long time user of RME. I had a FF4 for years and decided to upgrade to the UCX II recently. Reasons for upgrading: (1) the Firewire interface drew so much power from my Mac Pro that the computer fans kept coming on, which is a problem when the fans are in proximity to the sound source being recorded with a mic. (2) The addition of effects. (3) auto gain, which isn't available on the old platform, requiring trial and error for too long to get it just right. Your video is a great help, very intuitive approach. Thanks for that! PS - do you have an instructional video on the Warm Audio Pre?

If you set a snapshot for example on Mix 1 and power the unit off and use it standalone, will it recall the last snapshot (mix 1 in this example)? Have you tested this? Great question. I would say the difference is minimal and really depends on your speakers and room. Maybe with highend speakers and a very treated room, you might be a tiny bit of a difference but after an hour of using either one without comparing, either one will sound amazing. I wouldn’t use that as a deciding factor, more so the ins and outs. I currently am expanding the studio with the ufx3 but the ucx2 converts sound just as good.

    I own a RME UCX II and I use it to run Windows... because of all of the ins and outs to route to my Rodecaster Pro II and then my streaming computer but to record music in my DAW I use a $200 Zoom 32-bit interface. The Zoom only has 2 ins and outs but the 32-bit recording is the absolute best in the industry hands down. Once I switched to 32-bit recording I never want to go back to 24-bit. Some people say the files are larger but not by that much a regular song project is at most only a few gigs or usually less. I hope Zoom comes out with a 32-bit 4 in and out device soon. I couldn't not do my streaming gig without the UCX device but for recording it is Zoom all the way. The sound quality of the UCX Fireface is second to Zoom.

    • @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE
      @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE  Před 8 měsíci +1

      Would love to try a 32bit workflow

    • @miltonfostersound
      @miltonfostersound Před 8 měsíci

      Whereas the Zoom interface you have is capable of capturing a higher bit depth (which only really plays into two factors of the perceived sound quality: noise floor and overall level of the recording) the quality of conversion (sample accuracy in the frequency and time domain) are vastly different.
      You can think of 32 bit as a bigger pipe for your audio signals to flow through unaffected, but if the source of your water (which in this analogy can be everything from the instrument to the AD convertor) does not allow water to pass through cleanly, then you still end up with an impure/coloured result. One of the tell tale differences is how transients are smeared, almost as if you were recording with a transient removal plugin.
      Also, multistage ADC’s (like the ones employed by Zoom) can have weird errors like supersonic frequency dropouts as they transition from one converter chip to another. And this isn’t to bash Zoom, as I own and love my F6 which can do up to 192/32. But it pales in comparison to my RME Babyface Pro FS (which goes up to 192/24) in terms of fidelity.
      However, what really matters is what helps you get to the end result. If you find yourself in a situation where you’re unable to set the gain on your preamp so as to prevent your signal from being captured to low (closer to the noise floor) or to loudly (at risk of clipping), then 32 bit is helpful. That’s why these 32 bit recorders can work well for unpredictable, highly dynamic sound sources on location. If you’re more than capable of setting gain levels for your sources and want to do more than just capture sound without clipping or being too close to the noise floor, then an interface with a higher quality analogue to digital convertor (ADC) is preferred.
      Hope this helps.

      I stand by my comment that my Zoom 32 bit recordings sound better and yes the noise floor is the big thing. I had to wrap my head around the fact that the Zoom does not have an input gain knob at all. At first I found this to be terrible but as time went on I realized that when I need to go back in and re-sing a line or two, there is nothing to set. I only have to get my mic to mouth proximity right and I can seamlessly add or replace vocals or other tracks. Now I am very glad and comforted that there is no input knob to have to reset to the same exact place every time. The input never changes. My mic has a PAD button which is really great so my mic is always louder than my tracks. Also I have a very loud voice from many years of singing, now, it is "impossible" for me to clip. Before I had vocals that sounded distorted and shrill from overdriving the single chip even when the peak meter was not blinking. Maybe because there was only one chip doing the work...Or rather because of the noise floor. As I said I will never go back to 24 bit recording and in my lifetime I have recorded around 500 original songs, so I do have some experience in this area. My PC has 18 Intel extreme cores, 128GB of fast RAM and 2 X RTX 3090 GPUs, so the Zoom has to only record and playback and that it does without a single flaw. As for transients, that was the problem I was having with 24 bit, the transients were "unstable and wonky sounding", the single chip design could not hear them and they were muffled and again, distorted. I find that problem less with the Zoom but not completely perfect but much better. Forget about "all" other audio interfaces for your DAW and buy a Zoom. And when Zoom comes out with 4 in and out replace it with that and you will be set for life. Get the RME UCX II to run Windows it is the only device that can handle all of your ins and out as well as it does. I have owned about 8 audio interfaces including, RME Fireface UCX II(current), EMU 1616M, Steinberg, Roland, Behringer, and Creative labs Audigy, with sound fonts, Realtek... I have never liked the way any of them reproduce transients. The Zoom hits the spot, my vocals are NEVER distorted and I can sing as loud as I want without any thought to gain level. Zoom records things at the level they really are. Even with the Zoom for my DAW I still need the RME Fireface UCX II for Windows, can't do without it. @@miltonfostersound

    I bought the Rme UCX 2 when it was released .At first I hesitated as Its rather expensive, but you will forget it because it just works. After different troubles with interfaces from Audient and Tc Electronic etc. its like "coming home". But if you dont have the need for all the connections In UCX2 , then go for the beautiful RME Babyface Pro Fs - Which sounds just as good. Ive owned both. As this very good video points out the drivers from RME are second to none. If the Rme software "total mix" are "overkill for your needs or dosent fit your workflow, then just use the "operational mode" ( also called "Dawmode" ) of Totalmix which is a much more simple layout, and quick to operate.

    If you have the UCX II but need to expand on the IO you will NOT be able to expand with a Digiface for additional ADAT (if you're on windows) as you'll end up having to use the Digiface (ASIO) as the master and the UCX II over Toslink as the slave.
    The only way that would work is by getting the UFX II which is obviously a lot more with 60 IO and can be paired with something like the Digiface.
    I'm stuck with the hard decision of either trading my UCX II for the UFX II for 20 more IO (or) getting myself a Cranborne audio 500ADAT and having the benefit of a 500 Module but with the limitations of 48kHz

      That is a tough decision, love the Cranbourne rack, but I’ve just held off on getting it because 500 series are a rabbit hole of investing

    Do you get any additional delay from the ADAT expansion compared to recording directly into the interface? I'm thinking of a presonus 2626 thunderbolt due to it's better than RME round trip latency figures and price but might be a mistake.

    Also check out Allen and Heath cq12 which is mixer, interface and recorder, it beats the device presented in price and feature set.

      @@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE they both are the zoom f3, you just plug in your Mike, press record and your done. The volume is just for listening. It records everything from the drop of a pin to an air craft take off, all at the same time, in your Daw, you just set your dB level to drop things or pickup things you want.

    Thanks for the great video!
    I read in so many forums but still haven't figured it out yet.
    What is better for my settings with UCX II, +4dBu, +13dBu or +19dBu?
    I'm talking in Main channel, inputs and outputs, thank you so much, God bless.

      Glad I could help! Those values really depend. I have a synth that is low output so I change the value and get a louder signal. I run my monitors volume pretty low to avoid amp his so I increased the output on the main in total mix. Just be careful and keep speakers low when adjusting so no volume jumps damage your speakers

    Would you recommend this also for hybrid use to play PC audio when not used in a studio environment (for example to drive headphones in a home studio when just listening to music, working, etc ...)

    HI, I'm really wanting to pickup an RME UCXII and a Pulse16. I really need to get 32 channels to cover the bands I record. could you tell me how to get to 32 channels with the RME? A great video and well explained. Thanks Tony

    Out of curiosity, if I recorded vocals through this unit and the babyface pro, would it sound the same or different?

      I have only used the Babyface pro fs in one session, but the vocals sounded great, the preamps are just as transparent.

    With your current setup would I still be able to add another AD/DA ADAT converter? I have an api lunch box that is connected to the said AD/DA ADAT converter. Thanks!

      Yup. There is adat in and out. So 8 channels in and out at 48hz

      @@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Thanks for the reply! To clarify, the OctaMic II would be connected via ADAT to the AD/DA converter (Presonus DP88) and then the DPP88 to the UCX II via ADAT?

    How does one make use of the ADAT in/out channels? Doesn't it require an entirely separate/additional Analog/Digital convertor to interface analog signals to/from the "extra" ADAT channels? How is that useful?

    • @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE
      @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE  Před 8 měsíci

      You would need a Adat preamp. 8 in and out, all the channels are carried over a single Adat cable and intomtotal mix software. So yes, it would be a separate piece of gear.

      @@CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE Thanks man, have had some difficulty finding clarity about ADATs. If I understand, an "ADAT preamp" must have a D/A for outputs, and a A/D for inputs, right? Because the ADAT carries digital signal, I believe. I don't understand what advantage the ADAT provides, if it's just passing digital signal through to an additional convertor.

    How much better sound quality will this be than the Apollo twin x duo converters etc I use a u87ai and Adam a8h monitors I wonder if this interface will bring out the sound quality more from them and my twin has been giving me stability issues

    • @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE
      @CREATEEDUCATEINSPIRE  Před měsícem

      In my experience it is mire revealing across the spectrum, a little brighter highs and a bit deeper lows. Also, I feel it has a wider stereo image making it easier to hear everything in the mix, pan placement and more details. When I updated it was a noticeable difference, then add in that total mix routing and it’s hard to use anything else.
