  • What kind of truck do you need for a slide in camper or overhead camper? I'll walk you through things you need to think about when buying a 2024 Chevrolet Silverado HD, 2024 Ford Super Duty F-250 or F-350, or a 2024 RAM 2500 HD or 3500 HD. It's not just as easy to say you need this or need that. You really need to know your camper specs, towing needs after the camper, and what you and your gear weigh. Then you need to find out if the truck is even certified or technically ready to be a slide in camper truck. Then from there you can do the dance with your center of gravity and so much more.
I'll walk you through how to go about it, what you should be looking for on the window sticker and so much more.

This is what I use mine for. 23 F350 Crew FX4 7.3 gas XLT Dually. 6400 lbs of payload. I haul an Arctic Fox 865. Plenty of stability and power for this application. Plan on flat towing a Bronco in the future and right now we tow a couple quads and or a boat. Love it.

Awesome information. My 2017 2500HD Silverado has the slide in camper info inside the glove box.

4500 is best Imo for any 6foot+ truck camper ,you will have passenger weight , truck camper, and gear, and yes tongue weight for trailer,, all this is too close to maxing out 3500 weight limit especially for heavy trailers, 450 with a flatbed for the win with truck camper

@@automotiveinquiries9673 Yup. Gotta aim for that 7K payload. Having more is better than not enough.

Great info and will say it is tough to actually figure out what the final gross weight of the rig as well as axle weights will end up being due to the unknown weight that is stuffed into that camper to hit the road. I know that some camper manufactures over the years have low balled their actual dry weight of the camper as they used the base non option camper weight vs the camper that had all the bells and whistles of air conditioning, built in generator, awnings etc. Campers with the basement system end up being very tall and top heavy and those largest ones that have slide outs are beyond what a one ton should be carrying. As to truck setups, why GM no longer has a rear axle anti sway bar option for a camper special truck ( as far as I know ) is beyond me as they certainly used to, some Ram dually trucks also fell into that oddity of not having the sway bar from factory. That is where its good to find out what aftermarket anti sway bars are available to install on a truck so that can be added as well as items like timbrens if its discovered not to handle as one "assumed" it should have.

What would you recommend for a 24 Tremor 7.3 with a truck camper that weighs 1800 pounds wet? I'm trying to decide between airbags, overload spring spacers, sumo springs or Timbrens
