This week on Sunday Longplay, it's a new twist on an old classic! Welcome to The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past Master Quest!
As part of a pre-order bonus for The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker on Gamecube, Nintendo offered an exclusive bonus disc that included a port of Ocarina of Time along with a special "Master Quest" version that included harder redesigned dungeons with altered progression, enemies spread differently throughout, and tougher enemies encountered earlier on, kind of like the second quest from the original NES Legend of Zelda. However, no such treatment was given to A Link To The Past, so the community made their own Master Quest for ALTTP!
Though the dungeon maps retain the same basic layout as in the original game, the doors and switches have been rearranged to drastically alter the route you have to go to get through them, the dark mazes have been completely reworked, and just like in OOT Master Quest, you encounter stronger enemy spreads. This leads to some really confusing dungeons! Even the Tower of Hera, normally one of the easier dungeons, becomes a puzzle in this hack. And don't even get me started on Ganon's Tower! There is also an optional additional patch to make Link take double damage a la Hero Mode from Skyward Sword onwards, and of course since I love a good challenge, I'm putting that patch in effect too!
There are actually two Master Quest hacks out there for ALTTP, but this is the good one. The other one does nothing more than add a whole bunch of spikes, holes, and bugs to the game. This one adds to the difficulty in a good way, the other one adds to the difficulty in a bad way.

I saw an SNES cart hack of this I’m thinking of picking up. I can’t believe Nintendo didn’t release a master quest of this game. It’s the best freaking zelda
I know, right? They did it with the first game, they did it with OOT, why not this one too?
@@MetalSmasherGaming They did it with the first AND second. I would REALLY like to see a Link's Awakening Master Quest.
I remember looking for a way to unlock it, on the back of the box there were different enemies in a specific place so I figured there had to be some sort of trick to it
Really? You can't believe that they didn't do a thing that they've only ever done one time?
Best? Haven't you played Ocarina of Time?
I would love to play this, still my favorite game.
Is this hack combinable with the Redux patch?
A little trick I used for this boss. I used the Magic Cape or Cane of Byrna for the short sequence at the start of the fight with the Fire Bat things.
So awesome
I think so too. I don't get why Nintendo never made their own Master Quest for ALTTP like they did with the original NES game or Ocarina of Time.
Thanks friend Gracias Amigo Obrigado Galera Grazie Bambino
This "Master Quest" only is harder because the monsters do double damage. If I was designing a Second Quest hack for a Link to the Past, I would try to change more things. Most notably, I would try to redesign some of the dungeons.
Thanks for clarifying this
Did you even watch the video? There are different enemies in the dungeons, and puzzles in the dungeons, that don’t exist in the original. The only thing I can see so far, that is identical, is the layout, item placements, and bosses. The dungeons are totally different.
Thanks for playing it's amazing player :D
You’re welcome. I love this game!
no big chest key for me! 🙃 must be bugged 03:51:38
As a massive fan of this game, I would love to play this but have no idea how to get it to work!
Do you have a Link To The Past ROM? If so, follow the link in the description to download the Master Quest IPS patch, then go to the online ROM patcher on the website and select your base ROM and the patch and it will automatically apply the patch and download a new patched ROM.
¿Puedes jugarlo con el sprite de Karl Newman Mods?
Hey bro, how do I open the hack rom?
First, get a base ALTTP ROM. Then go to the link in the video description to get the Master Quest patch. On the same website, on the left side you'll see a link to an online ROM patcher. Go there, load the ALTTP ROM and the Master Quest patch and then click "Apply Patch" and it should automatically download the patched ROM.

Thanks men, your great
@@danielcoronado333 Happy to help!
This hack looks cooler than the original version.
this hack is no diff from the o.g. to the t i just watched it and i can run thru the o.g grabbing every single item that exists, ive been waiting on nintendo to make a 3d remake of this game for almost 15 years now, we have had a remake of all the others but this first zelda and number 2, everythiing else has seen updates and remakes but this has not and its the zelda that set "tloz" off to begin with that actually hit the hardest in the fan base, this was the very first video game i ever plaied if that says anything from when i was a kid also the first game i ever sat down and fully completed
@vindiedes540 what I meant by that is a more challenging version and what's wrong with that
a master quest changes all puzzles and makes them extreamly hard just uping npc damage doesn't make this a "master quest" go play the real oot "master quest" and see for ur self the diff@@MatthewCox-fd3cf

I find it amusing that this ROM hack makes The Tower of Hera a little bit easier than the original game.
Tower of Hera doesn't look easier. There were no red Hardhat Beetles that needed 16 sword slashed to kill in the original game.
Made an already tough game even harder. I'm sticking with the original.
It's pretty much the same
No, it’s not. The dungeons are totally different. New puzzles and mechanics added, and different enemies etc.
No dungeon redesigns? That's boring
The modder (mod team?) missed an opportunity to put a bomb drop in the eacape. 😕
Also, no turtles in Turtle Rock? 😮💨
Sorry...why is this considered Master Quest?
It's similar to what Nintendo did with Ocarina of Time's Master Quest where it rearranges the dungeons to make them harder.
Now try it with only 3 hearts and green tunic only.
Ooh boy, that's going to be a challenge! Honestly, until just a few months ago I didn't even know you could do a 3 Heart Challenge on ALTTP since the game forces you to pick up the heart containers after each boss fight.
Virtually impossible.
Wouldn’t be able to, after beating the dungeon bosses it won’t move forward until you grab the heart container.
