Honestly, TV has never been a problem for me. It’s social media including CZcams. I spend so much time on CZcams than anywhere else 😩 It’s like you go into one rabbit hole after another and the next thing you know, you just wasted 4 hours of your life.
One famous person said "I don't have a TV because I do not want an open sewer pipe in my living room."
I'm in the UK. I never watch mainstream news or soaps and junk TV but I do really enjoy watching gardening, history and nature programmes. In the spring and summer I'm usually outside actively working in the garden or going on walks. I find CZcams to be addictive and have to be disciplined in how much I watch 😙
Married 14 1/2 years, parents for 11 yrs to 4 little ones, never had a TV and we are living life abundantly!!! Our kids actually thank us for not having one. 🙌😁
We don’t own one either! Love it!
I gave mine away and I don't miss it. I cut out the Soapies and the rest followed. My TV is CZcams
@-living4jesus4ever- Your comment is very insightful and inspiring! I also love your username. ❤ I don’t know if you will see my reply but I’m hopeful that you will. I am a single mom of a toddler and definitely wanting to make changes in our home/life to grow in Christ-likeness. I would like to ask you a few things since you have far more experience. I was hoping I would be able to send you a private message but didn’t see a way. I don’t really ever leave comments. Anyways, if you see this and find time to reply, I would appreciate some more insight and advice. I pray you and your family have a blessed day! 🙏🏻🙂❤️
@@JustMe-ig7sx thank you for your kind words. When I first started being a mom I was so afraid to do it wrong and was going to try to “read all the books,” on it. I had to remember that my first priority was to ask the Lord for daily wisdom to guide me moment by moment, and with each child individually as they are wired. And to remember to shepherd their hearts. Behavior can be modified but the big picture is the heart and shepherding it intentionally. And reading them the Bible, taking with them often and alway about the Lord and pray with them without ceasing. God partners with us!! Even and especially as a single parent for you. Love and logic has some great practical natural consequence ideas for discipline and sensible character, too. Have you seen the movie “like arrows,” ? It’s great!!! Check it out! They have it free on CZcams with Indonesian subtitles for some reason. haha! :)
Yes! Put down the phone, tablet, computer, head outside and enjoy nature!
Wonderful
Said while watching CZcams. Not calling out because I’m doing the same thing
@@mikemellon80 😂 I've been hiking like 8 times since I wrote that. I didn't mean go live in the woods. Just don't sit around all day on this shet!
@@cheeseballs3825 agreed. I do lots of outdoor activities and have two boys so my tv watching is done after 9pm. Now CZcams is a different story. Lots of down time at work
When I was in my 40s and living alone, I rarely watched TV, and was thriving! Now 69, recently widowed, after watching this, and summer at my doorstep, I'm inspired to try it again! I have a very large collection of dvds and will allow a good, favorite movie, now and then, or get a dvd from the library. I think I'll cancel cable and Netflix. I'M SICK OF NEWS! So that will save a ton of money! Thanks again Joshua, you are always enriching my life. I just purchased a handwriting book and practice paper. I am determined to improve my penmanship. Also, after dinner, I adore gardening or walking in the neighborhood with my dog and chatting up the neighbors, who also made the decision to not turn on the TV. I'm excited, feels like New Years Day! A fresh healthy start, to my new chapter, after losing my dear husband!
A Catholic priest once said, "Having a TV in your living room is like having a Jew in your living room."
That's kind of a nasty thing to say 😢@KadeBronson
@@dorothyjohnson6743 Apparently, you are a person that thinks truth is nasty.
I’m so happy you decided to change! Yes, stopping watching news was also one of the best decisions I ever made.
I hope you feel less lonely and that you can find joy again after losing your beloved husband.
Walk your dog, have a nice chat with neighbours (or even strangers!), go outside and just enjoy nature. Also, I loved the fact that you’re inspired to work on your penmanship, this is so special!
Hope you love your new life. 🤍
Joshua, this is a great video. I don’t watch TV but honestly, I do watch probably too much CZcams which is basically the same thing! Thank you for always giving me something to think about when it comes to improving my life!♥️🙏
Same here. I feel a little better about CZcams because I’m learning something in most cases. I credit a lot of the good habits I’ve developed to people on CZcams who have taught me.
I feel like the word "TV" can easily be substituted by "social media" because it has the same impact if not worse! A great reminder to reevaluate our relationship with technology. 🙌🏻✨
Yes!
Saying we don't watch TV is no big deal. Instead of turning on the TV and sitting around watching it, we sit in front of our computers all day watching CZcams or chatting on Facebook. No difference as I see it. I was married in April 1967. I remember precisely when my husband and I purchased our first TV. It was a 13" B&W that we purchased from Sears Roebuck on the morning of July 20, 1969. We wanted to watch the first man Neil Armstrong walk on the moon. It was the only TV we owned for 10 years. After being a widow for 14 years I seldom watch TV but turn it on just to hear people talking. My mother was a widow for 26 years and she did the same with the radio.
You,Nailed it!
I’m the same way my tv doesn’t get turned on until noon for two shows I like to watch. Most of the time the radio is on just for background noise. Also a widow of twenty years.
I'm a widow of 13 months and I just have the TV on for background noise. My problem is CZcams: I spend way too much time watching it.
@@lisa-mariegray5510 Yes, youtube is my go to. I spend way too much time watching videos.
@@lisa-mariegray5510 Same problem here. Too much CZcams. I also get way too many spam Emails that just won't quit, no matter how many I tell to unsubscribe or say its spam. Even things I do like come much too frequently.
Yesterday marked 10 years of being TV free.
He said watch less, not, not at all.
@@therichbuddha3277 TV free but what about You tube?,which is far more addictive in my opinion,Ever see some one under 60 whose not plastered to their phone when they have a free,30 seconds!?
I'm on year 3, never missed😁
Congratulations 🎉
Inspiring!
The box was named Tell A Vision for a reason. I was a child when it was invented. I am no longer a TV viewer since I disposed of the box 13 yrs ago. I limit my time in front of a computer because there are free concerts to attend where I live. There are so many productive activities to enjoy.
I never watch tv. I listen to audiobooks or watch vids like urs that teach things. ❤❤❤
TV helps fill loneliness gaps for the multitudes 📺📱 Problem is, it exacerbates loneliness by drawing us away from real life to a fake, inauthentic world. 🎭
That depends on what you choose to watch.
Havent owned a tv in 30 or more years. Didnt have tv growing up either. But i watch an hour of videos a day. Learning, crafts and positive spiritual stuff.
My husband and I are visiting my 78 year-old mom as I see this video. Her husband and her are divorcing and their habit is eating dinner on TV trays in front of a huge screen. I excuse myself to eat on their small counter in the kitchen. It feels awkward but I cannot sit in front of blaring news while eating my breakfast and dinner. It causes anxiety and makes me so sad.
It's depressing, I know we need information, but not what is on television. I watch PBS only!
I am in my 84th year and I’ve never owned a television in my whole life. I am better versed in knowledge and news that anyone else I know and I’ve worked at MIT for a long time.
Isn't your phone a mini TV ? 😂
Maybe you are a know it all, thinking you are more well versed, but in reality, just go around annoying everyone.
@@KadeBronson That was rather unkind.
This would include CZcams and all social media. Watching CZcams and social media all of the time has the same effects as watching TV. Chock full of ads.
I've never had more than one television. And never in my bedroom. In the summer, I can definitely cut out a lot of watching tv.
During university time I didn’t had access to TV, I was very busy with classes. I didn’t even missed TV to be honest. Now, 10 years later I live with my fiancé, he have small TV in living room and watch it occasionally, during tenis competitions. It’s off 90% of the time. I can’t imagine watching TV like average person, I would have no time to do basic things like work, house chores, walking 10 000 steps.
TV and social media are the same bad habit ...
I don’t watch any TV. Because CZcams has replaced it and honestly it’s worse.
I agree!
100% its a very dark rabbit hole……..
I usually do not comment, but with this topic, I want to share my experience. I am not a tv fanatic but I did follow some shows, series!😁 But since my last tube (yeah! My tv was old and flintstone time😂), thar was 10 years ago! I never had one since. I though I watch in my celfon I do limit with educational and uplifting like this👍 And I never felt lacking or less!
I watch zero TV. My 17 year old has never known cable TV. As a child she would watch VCR videos but no TV.
I got rid of my TV's approx 5 years ago. I was a 60 yo f at that time. I always wanted to be a mason. I spent my time redoing my land and mountain home with some badly needed pavers made and laid in place. It was a killer task at the time. I was hand moving boulders, hand mixing portland cement for the pavers & I was facing natural rock. No one told me that using a masonry hammer would bruise the palm of my delicate hand to a lovely shade of purple. It was all worth not watching the TV. I do spend time in the morning learning things from YT. The mason who taught me my skills was on YT and just happened to live the next county over from me. A great man with the gift of sharing his decades of experience. I was lucky to have found him. TV is fine for some, just not me. I really like your philosophies and advice. I did subscribe to your channel to see what you're all about. Good advice. Thank you.
We have all these fancy flat screens that every time I turn on it's full of commercials. How much show do I get in between all the commercials. It's gotten ridiculous. Joshua is right once again.
It bothers me as how many commercials are encouraging gambling. We only watch some CZcams every now and then. I'd much rather read a book
@@DendyA4321 Yes, those gambling ads bother me too. The message it sends to young people is bad.
The commercials make it all look such fun and their so called guide lines to keep in control of gambling is encouraging you to gamble more as you think you're in control. Plus virtually every ad after 9pm is a gambling one. I'm lucky I've never been into any form of gambling, not even the amusement arcades that my parents loved on holidays. I've worked far too hard for my money doing jobs I disliked intensely to throw it away in this manner
I hear ya, @DendyA4321. The goal of TV and CZcams is to sell, sell, sell. If I get my act together enough to launch my channel, I'll make a vid about what you just said. Take care.
Haven't had tv in nine years. Always been a fan of talk radio, but it too has become a sea of annoying commercials with some talk in-between. It's necessary revenue, but it's gotten crazy. The gambling ads have made their way onto radio as well. There's one for sports gambling that runs on a morning talk show. Frustrating. What next, the return of ciggy ads on tv...and on the Cartoon Network?
Yay, I am done. Last time I watched tv was 20 years ago❤️
We don’t own a TV and love it!
Got rid of my TV 30 years ago and it was one of the best things that I ever did.
But obviously your on you tube-What"s the difference?
@@markrunyon5524Good question. And what about Netflix?
@@markrunyon5524
I have been thinking about that today, so thanks for asking. TV is passive, with mostly useless filler. This including about 40% commercials, which are at best a useless waste of time, and more often harmful. I intensely dislike watching any TV when I am visiting friends, and they all seem to have TV on all day. I use videos like I use audio books, and that is for searching for specific information. The video format is exceptional at a "Show me how to do something" as opposed to "tell me how", otherwise I could just read the information that I want. I never listen to or watch anything passively, which is what TV is. But after thinking about this today, I think that I will spend less time on CZcams, and more time with audio books or audio courses. But for finding out how to do some task quickly, youtube is excellent.
- I don't do social media at all (Twitter, X, Facebook, etc), another waste of time.
- This channel has been good for me, it has helped me with my goal of getting rid of everything that is unnecessary in my life, especially junk and clutter. So I think that I will stay subscribed to this channel for now. But you have an excellent point, How much of the time I spend on CZcams is unproductive? How much time is excessive? What is a good time limit?
- What do you think? Is this something that you have been thinking about?
@@lisa-mariegray5510
Intentionally tossed tv nine years ago. With CZcams, there is infinitely more to choose from and one can cull and tailor very specific subjects, content creators, movies, documentaries, etc. Myriad of instructional/tutorials I've learned from as well.
I only have YT. No Netflix, Hulu, etc. I'm also a fan of talk radio. Can listen while I do other things.
Convicted! 🙋🏼♀️ also convicted recently by the kids book "the couch potato". I know what I need to do, I just need to do it.
I have some favorite shows, I only let myself watch them while I’m on the treadmill.
Oh, that's a good idea!
It's not so easy to stop watching when your spouse insists on having the tv on during every single meal.
Simply decide, what you prefer! Good reminder. 🙏👍
you should say: stop using your iphone so much. specially social media. people don't watch tv anymore
Thanks Joshua! We had let my toddler son watch some shows that I regret-he talks about Blippi more than his Dad.. it's hard when your oldest is a toddler because he does need some playmates that certain shows seem to satisfy. I don't feel the need to watch shows myself, but need to cut back on CZcams some days.
Insightful as usual.
thank you for this. I stopped watching/having TV 8 years ago and I can only confirm how all this is true, and looking back I see what negative effects TV has nowadays. Same for too much social medias.
Canceled my cable service awhile back but still have antenna to get local news and weather and a few other stations.
This is soo true but a bit daten! It is all the things on your computer/ IPad/telephone and tv that this applies to! We have a television that we use as the screen to our computer. There we watch all kinds of things from news to movies. But as we do not have regular tv channels we have to choose what to watch. No swapping around the channels! So most nights after news & weather we turn it off. I think the best way to avoid doing anything you don’t want to is to make it harder to start doing!
Good informational video. I haven’t had a TV in my bedroom for over 30 years and don’t miss it.
I own no TV and it’s wonderful. Yes, there are some shows I like but most of the stream on my Amazon account.
Guess what? I hardly watch them there either. ….say 3 perhaps shows a month?
Joshua, We rarely watch the news & don't watch prime time TV. It's too depressing & crazy. If we fo watch TV, it's usually black & white, classic movies. I'm trying to watch fewer YT videos, too & keeping only my favorite YTbers. You're one I've kept. 😊
Thank you! I hope you are real. 🤔😉
I have no other tv than my smartphone in use (I still haven't dared to declutter the other one, although I haven't used it for years). But I watch a lot on CZcams, because information is often more recent and shorter here than a book.
Your videos are always very inspiring! ✌️😘
Consider replacing some of that screen time with activities that foster personal growth and stronger relationships, like reading or networking events.
I love this message ! Going to share some of your comments/ statistics at church on Sunday. TY!
Excellent, as always ❤️🥰
Absolutely LOVE this! I couldn't agree more! We do not watch TV either! We do have the monitor, and can watch what WE choose! It was so good raising our children this way as well. We do limit what is piped right into our home! Lol, I thought it was cute, "Taking the TV out of the bedroom reminded me how much I enjoyed .......... other things" 😉
Thank you for all of the Wisdom. 😊
I don't have a TV. The only time I had one was when my husband was sick - he watched it. OTOH I listen to too much 'News.'
I've been getting rid of tv quite gradually. Canceled cable TV years ago. Still had wifi and many subscriptions for streaming services. Got rid of all the streaming services. Then I canceled wifi and bought an aerial. I can get 8 channels free over the air! However, I live in Ontario, Canada, within sight of the US, and all the channels that I get are American. With all the unsettled weather lately, I am not getting much reception. So, I have pretty much quit tv!
Watching TV brings me joy and helps me relax🙂💕
Right to the point, thanks Joshua!
Thank you for
Sharing ideas
Great message!
So true...and although I do not enjoy watching tv and rarely do, what I don't understand is how things that we did 'in the old days' such as read books, play jigsaw or crossword puzzles, etc. were any better for you? The end result is the same: sitting on a couch or chair for hours on end, getting some form of mental pleasure from it. Now, I spend hours watching videos. I find many of them extremely educational and I learn a lot (much faster than reading a book on the same subject). Some are just for entertainment, true - but I tend to prefer to gain some insight in watching a video as opposed to just 'spending time'. But either way, I think it is human nature to need time to unwind - rather than always being a participant, it feels good to be a spectator, too.
For Lent in 2012 we gave up TV and after Lent we gave the tv away. Yes, I do watch some tv. PBS is FREE online. And CZcams channels that teach me something I want to learn, like how to recharge my car AC.
great video as always, thank you😊
Wise advice! 😊
Thank you
Thank you Joshua, ITS a Very importante point.
Appreciate this!
Less is best
Amen. No tv. Just weather
Honest question for anyone who wants to answer: Does this include youtube? Because I think it does, for me. Haven't had TV for years but YT has replaced it.
Maybe you just switched "addictions". 🤷♀
Love your videos😄👍🌷
After the Covid Lockdowns and spending ages watching all the Covid news my brain said no more. I haven't watched TV for the last 18 months.
Unfortunately, I now need to cut down the time I spend on line. Oh Dear :)
I thought you were gonna say “no TV.” Lol. I’m down with less TV tho. As a single person living alone tho, if used judiciously, it’s pretty good company if you manage it well and limit it and being more selective about what you’ll “agree” to watch. Visited my son recently for example. We thoroughly enjoyed watching the movie Logan together. (Yes that’s how far behind I am with movies lol). I stayed a whole week and that was the only “TV time” lol so I think that’s pretty well balanced.
I only have a few on my list that I actually want to see. One series and one movie. The rest I don’t want or need. No news for me. No useless fluff (like reality tv or sitcoms etc). I don’t think of TV as anything but deliberate “down time.” And down time is only when the rest of my life is under control and taken care of well enough (not to be abused as a procrastination tool or to try to avoid responsibility etc). Oh right. And mute any and all commercials and at times do micro tasks during that time. (Although I don’t have cable. Just internet apps).
does youtube count?
But being on you're phone watching CZcams videos are perfectly fine 😂
I watch them on my TV 😂
Just watch TV on the phone 5:56
I don't watch tv except 1/2 hour a day if that. Screen time is another story. Current problems with Screenagers fit what you describe. Less screen time, less dawdling, more living in reality... that's for now, eh?
I haven't had a TV for over 15 years, I do however have access to netflix, prime and Disney from which I choose something to watch in the evenings whilst I'm seeing or knitting, but these things are not my enemy, right now that goes to Instagram. I'm doing a photography course and the group has Instagram to share photos, that's how it started, but it's to get lost on there. But
The high cost of cable is an even better reason to stop watching TV completely!!
I do not even know the latest movie stars.
😂😂
I have 2 TVs on the wall and they were both given to me. Never use them. I am not obese. But I do eat poorly and when I wake up I regret the cleaning or time spent on yoga I didnt get to do instead.
Evenings at the gym, eh? Well that explains the fabulous pecs and biceps... 😉
In the Philippines it isn't television anymore but our cellphone rather, its massive.
Yes to all who say sitting on your computer or smart phone is about the same as watching tv, but I think it might even be worse.
I've gone 24 years without a TV -- no intention of changing that!
I got rid of my TV in 2015. 99% of what's on is garbage, IMO. Never missed it.
Does this apply to youtube? Could you explain the difference?
TV- free since 2009. I was a news junkie from the age of 11-35, but it became nothing more than sensationalism in the late 90s.
Get away from the tv for a couple of months, & when you return, you’ll see how awful it really is. It’s nauseating awful.
TVs in the bedroom really bother me.
If you own a tv you really only need one and I’d suggest it in the living room. If you have kids and don’t want to watch what they do then 2 tvs might make sense but I’d suggest having these in a designated space outside of a bedroom (ex. Kids tv in the basement or bonus room and adults in the living room)
👍❤️
Replay!!
❤❤❤
I don't watch TV, but I do watch CZcams, which isn't much different, really.
We respectfully disagree. I think you could find great non commercial show.
We LOVE the History Channel. NO COMMERCIALS "Foods that Built America" was AMAZING!!! Now we are watching " The Mega Brands That Built America." We watch it together and discuss. last night, we watched ow Spaulding and Wilson created the first sports equipment. And then a Whole industry.
Now I understand why my dad switched to PBS when I was a teen.
I have not watch television for over 22yrs.
🥰👍
I know a lot of people say this, but i watch mainly PBS and local news. Too much garbage otherwuse.
You're like dave ramsey telling us to cut up our credit cards 😂
Watching TV is very important to me because all my friends are death😢
Tv is just streaming. Streaming is CZcams. Joshua Becker is a CZcams show. Thanks for telling me to unsubscribe from your channel.
I bet I know what you enjoyed more when you got rid of the bedroom tv Josh you naughty boy 😂
One tip is to cut out all the Soapies and the rest will follow. I gave My TV away and My TV is CZcams
How about the BS ads on the internet?Maybe you couldn"t afford to be on TV?
Haha, you guys still watch television in 2024? Why? Y'all are so silly xD
- Now then, back to my daily 8 hours of CZcams...
Watch less CZcams.
It could have been better if LIMIT SOCIAL MEDIA
Phones are the new TV. I spend as little time as possible interacting with my phone. I’m gonna turn it off and put it in a drawer after this video.
