The fact that the arch from the 1200s is still standing is proof of the amazing craftsmanship and architecture of the time!
And all dry fit without mortar.
The goblins were amazing builders
Exactly sooo beautiful. I love atmosphere and beautiful history told best by Michael K.
It's an arch made of stone. It should stand forever.
I don't know if you study history with frequency, but many buildings in Europe dates from Middle Ages or even before. There is houses, still inhabitated, in Scotland and England dating from early Middle Ages.
In Jersey, a small british isle near France, there is the La Hougue Bie, which is a neolithic grave from 4500 BC that was later used as a church in 1200 and a bunker in World War II and now it is a museum
As a Scot I've been to Yester Castle many times and visited Goblin Ha'. Thanks for including Scotland in your itinerary. You'll both enjoy our country I'm sure and there are many places just as iconic a Yester Castle. Enjoy your stay Michael and Jessica and don't let the rain spoil it for you. We are a small country but have a very large heart. Have a great, and more importantly, adventurous stay here. Happy Halloween. 🦇🦇🦇
Just don't eat Haggis!! It's a lambs stomach filled with weird stuff 🫢🤢🤮
@@LADYBOY1988your obviously not Scottish my dear,
@@scottishdigger4991 I don't want to be Scottish if you got to eat a lambs stomach growing up 🤢🤮
haggis is incredible i'm English its best thing from SCotland imo haha
@@paulmilner8452 then you have a better stomach then me 😀
I love that she hugged the wall. She’s a keeper.
I'm Scottish and have never heard of Yester Castle, so thank you both for taking us all with you! Who (or what 😵💫) were the "other" voices btw 😮😁?!
Glad you both are enjoying Scotland. My country is full of spooky history and the amount of castle ruins lying in wait is immense. Enjoy!!
england as more creepy places to be fair a older nation
@@paulmcdonough1093not really, Scotland is about 100 years older than England, and has way more castles and “creepy” places. Most of which can be found in the forests/woods because of warring clans etc .. although England has the oldest castle that’s partly still in use 🏰
Buddy……
STOP CALLING HER BABY GHOUL! Lol
The clothes you wear, your hair, the topics you cover, all of that says it all! You guys are goth royalty, theres no need ruin it by saying, “baby ghoul” 27 times a episode.
You dont even need a new name, just start talking to here
@@JeremyMagicJohnson c'mon now it's a live name he has for her he's been saying it the whole time I've been watching and I've seen almost all their videos even some of his first before they got together when he had another girl but baby ghoul(Jessica) is much better than the other girl
Such an amazing place wow ❤❤❤❤so cool o
For many years I've loved videos of castles & ruins, but THIS VIDEO blows them all out of the water. The amount of materials & labor needed to build this - plus the engineering - boggles the mind! Just stunning.
The fact that the stairway keeps getting smaller and smaller that a regular person can barely fit is so unnerving. Awesome! 😆
Maybe it's because of all the rubble dumped in there?
Definitely didn't collapse as the ceiling is complete the entire distance.... so why did they fill it in with rubble?
It really must have been built by goblins
Wasn't king Richard found buried in a parking lot in Yester?
@@samuelmarberry4761 King Richard the Third was found buried under a car park in Leicester England. The car park had been built over church grounds. Leicester is pronounced "Lester".
Nice to see you touching the tunnel walls, my father always told me you never really visited anywhere unless you touched its walls. great video guys.
Holy shit the voices sent shivers up and down my spine! What a fantastic adventure you guys have taken us on with this one! So awesome!! Ty for all you do, you guys rock!! 🤘 🤘 HAPPY HALLOWEEN 🎃 🖤🖤🎃
We need to isolate and enhance the voices to see what they are saying.. When i heard them, i thought for sure someone else was there like a care taker who saw them go in and was about to tell them to get out… or a tour group showed up. But to find it wasn’t anybody was freaky to say the least.
OMG!!!! Those voices!!!! Wow!!!! Another superb video. Thank you Michael and Jessica.😊❤
I go to Scotland every year its the most beautiful country. The people are lovely its great to watch you in the UK
The tunnel reminds me of an oubliette. A dark, tight, and horrifying place where people were left alone to die. The oubliette was the most feared part of a castle dungeon. If you look at the walls and ceiling of the tunnel, they are intact. It's like the rubble was piled up to make the place more horrible.
That makes a lot of sense. I don't know enough bout castle architecture etc... but it definitely seems like ur right
My neighbour has an intact oubliette in her castle. It's a private home, however, so not many have the opportunity to see it. I can say, however, you wouldn't live long enough in there to die of starvation 😮😮
roof in tunnel ok.. there was hole in the top part and hardly no stone, some one has been rolling the stone down the steps.
And the staircase could've been to no where and so steep for the sake of torture. Throw he person down the stairs and leave them broken at the bottom unable to climb up. I bet it was a big pit at the bottom
Not to Mention Immurement which was even more terrifying
I would love to go back in time and see what the castle looked like in its prime.
I agree to whitby Abbey and the town from day one and meet the old folk who lived there 100 of years ago
Me too,we can only imagine how amazing it was!.
the year 1267 ?... the time of sir william wallace?... wow... seeing Jessica standing in the archway made me think.. how many people on horseback, kings soldiers, good guys, bad guys braveheart types have passed through there over the centuries.. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 love it!.. n thank you!

Fascinating site. Obviously built by experienced stone masons. Masons used to travel site to site, country to country and work for hire. To be a mason was a prestigious profession (their faternity, at least in name, still in existence today). Thank you for this peek into the dark ages. Those voices were a chilling surprise.
Sadly, now they're just club for ped@philes 🤷
I just recently read about Yester Castle and Goblin Ha' in a book of Scottish ghost stories. There was an account by a guy who had actually gone down into the Ha' and was seriously frightened. I love how you two show such appreciation and respect for the place.
Glad you guys came to Scotland for a visit, hope the locals treated you well.
why wouldnt we 🤔
When I first subscribed to your channel I never imagined you'd come all the way to Scotland. Now you are discovering things about Scotland than even I, a native Scotsman, never knew about! Happy Halloween :)
I've always just been amazed of the skill of the people who handcut those stones in sediment place, and then how thick the walls are just beyond me
I've lived in Scotland all my life and although I have heard of Yester Castle, this is the first time I've actually seen any footage of it and learned of its history. Quite a fascinating castle and history/legends. Thanks for teaching this Scot some local history! Enjoy Scotland and thanks for sharing your Scottish adventure with us.
2:24 Possibly a 'milestone'--literally. These used to mark the distance between villages, towns and cities. Some still stand today.
5:26 I'm getting Hobbit/Necromancer vibes from this aspect of the site.
This ruin was NEVER a church; this structure was Built to Last: the stone courses change colour, as they tower over you.
22:12 to 22:35 Voices! Or, a VOICE, male, with a Scottish lilt! Woah. 'He' was right there with you, Michael. Uncanny!
26:36 These voices sound like the murmuring of pigeons (although no tell-tale defecation can be seen here). And it appears that only Michael heard them, in the moment!
CRAZY-COOL. One of the best GRIMMLIFE excursions, ever. Magic. 🎃🎃
That was something❤I had similar experience while hiking around Loch Glass❤️

I'm really glad you guys are enjoying the geography, history, mythology and difference of our two countries.
The UK has many hidden secrets like this.
The lake district is full of them.
Enjoy the rest of your stay, great video as usual. X
Goblins are my absolute favorite. I always think of Blix from Legend, or the goblins from Warhammer. Vicious, clever, and malicious creatures.
Absolutely love Legend….has to be the longer European cut, as I prefer it & the Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack is so good.
Darkness : Ah, Blix. Come closer.
Blix : You summoned me, lordship?
Darkness : Are you not the most, loathsome of my goblins?
Blix : Truly, master.
Darkness : And is your heart black, and full of hate?
Blix : Black as midnight, black as pitch, blacker than the foulest witch.
OMG!!! This one gave me chills! You have reached a new plateau of Grimmness! You had me on the edge of my seat! Seriously!!!
I have to say, that video was bad ass. . Walking through that ruin of a what? 800 yr old Castle. Was amazing. And the voices😳. I heard them. And That was a bonus for the video. Scotland is beautiful 🎃🖤
The voices! Wow! Amazing video. Thank you!❤
I rewatched this probably like 10 more times because of how fascinating and in awe I am! And omg the voices… with how desolate and quiet and noise cancelling like Jessica said, there’s no way those voices came from someone walking around outside. That’s both scary and crazy and interesting and so much more! Added to the overall awe for sure! Thank you again besties for showing us this marvelous castle still partly standing after all this time! And showing us one of the most beautiful and haunting stairways ever ! 🎃🦇💚👻❤️
What did the voices say?
@amandanelson3345 I screen recorded it to try and make it out. The voice you can hear talking happens in my bedroom all of the time, but it's a woman's voice, not a man's. I see her walking around in here all of the time, and she constantly tugs on my blanket and taps on my feet. She also stands in my bathtub and moves the shower curtain when I'm sitting on the toilet. I'm so used to it that it doesn't bother me. She likes waking me up.
@@sabik6979but what does this have to do with what the voices said in the video 😂 you said you screen recorded it and then acted like you were about to give a explanation then proceeded to tell your ghost experience at home lol
Strange
CONGRATULATIONS!! The fact that you were able to hear the voice and can relive the experience on this recording is so remarkable and beyond the reproach of non believers. Now let's get that voice translated, because the language has mutated in several hundred years.❤❤❤❤❤

I've always wanted to visit Scotland. Thanks for starting my Halloween weekend with a perfectly spooky video!
Thank you Michael and Jessica. How beautiful this castle is. The stones are in the most incredible shape. It is cursed I could definitely feel that. I saw a few faces in the stones as you were walking. Perhaps the fireplace under the bridge was for the goblins to keep warm!
Oh, there were voices. There was no wind to whistle through to make that noise!! What an amazing place. I am a very proud Scot.🦇🦇
@@DM__YT_grimmlifecollective How exciting. Thank you very much. 👻
Absolutely amazing! Wow it’s beautiful! I heard the voices. That was crazy. So beautiful there landscape also. Thank you for taking us to this magical place!!! ❤️🥰
It's true that in the U.S. this would've been flattened and turned into luxury homes with underground parking by 1295.
I'm really glad you guys filmed this castle. Is very interesting to learn about the history of the castle. I went to Scotland back in 2001 is a little bit scary because that was the first time ever flown anywhere and I was by myself. I was married at the time but he didn't seem to want to go. I stayed in Edinburgh and took a one day trip to the highlands. I really desperately need to go back to the UK extremely soon. Thank you again for this video 😊.
Scotland, goblins, and castles! Oh aye 😂❤
Omg!! 🤯 Didn't you hear the voices as you were on the stairs etc??? That's scary as heck! 🙀 Amazing episode! THANK YOU SO MUCH 💓 💗 💛 ☺️ 💖 ♥️
Absolutely adored this! Old castles and ruins are a love of mine! This was perfect 🖤
I have to say you guys have guts ,I wouldn't go down there !! I cant go down my basement with out a night light and a picture of the pope ..Stay well
As a UK citizen your excitement of our history is palpable. I've never been to Yester Castle but it looks awesome.
This was absolutely amazing !! Yes, I heard the voices .Thank you for taking us with you. !! Happy Halloween !! Epic !! 👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻👻
Amazing video! Thanks for sharing!
Scotland is so beautiful and has some great castles to visit . The mountains in glen coe is worth visiting absolutely stunning and there is a lot of history up that way . Loving the content once again 🎃
You were so brave going down those stone stairs and hearing those voices! Wow! What an incredible place! I agree with Michael about Labyrinth! I'm so happy you are both discovering some of the amazing places and history in the UK. I love Scotland so much. Happy halloween! 🎃 👻
That voice was chilling. Paranormal shows would kill for that moment.
Something is still down there reciting spells 😉😮

Outstanding video! I've been watching Grimm Life Collective for a couple of years now! I LOVE your content!
I was afraid we were gonna lose Baby Ghoul coming down that last teeny tiny trail! Thanks for going to cool places that I will never get to see! It sucks being old & broken! Stay safe, Spooky Boo's.and HAPPY HALLOWEEN! 😉🎃👻🎃❤️
Brilliant filming and narration! Thanks for sharing this incredible place with us. The hidden stairway scene was straight out of a movie!
I'm blown away. You can certainly hear voices. Sounds like a recitation, very distinct Scottish gentleman.
So happy you shared. What an incredible experience. I'm creating I get there next year.
Wonderful the two of you had fun!
Love that you guys came to Scotland 🏴🙌
Great video. The skill required to build that castle by hand is amazing. Happy Halloween!👻🎃
Man, that wall is massive. Could you imagine? The intense labor to build something like that. Not to mention a castle, too. That's is mind blowing. I'm picturing a bunch of little goblins running around a fire roaring over there. Somewhere in the corner, it is totally cool. Throw in a couple pack mules in a clark
Loved this one .That stone tunnel was so cool.Have fun.❤
First of all that was awesome 👍👍 I actually heard voices. The way you filmed Mrs Jessica going down into the dark bliss was very cinematic. I loved it. Great video guys.👍❤️👍

I truly love all your videos, but gotta say this was one of the coolest ever!!! The forest and castle are so amazing!! Thanks for the tour!!👍🫡🎃🐈⬛☠️🌚
Beautiful & AMAZING ❤. It's so cool that you guys get to experience this magical place. Thanks for taking us along ✌️❤️🙂
How scary!!! Those voices. I wonder what they said. Fascinating video, as always❤
Can you imagine, 800 years ago people were laying those stones in medieval clothing right where you were standing. The English language was still being developed then and you wouldn’t have been able to even understand them, our own ancestors. That’s amazing. Dude. Thank you so much for showing us buddy.
How did they light that place up? I didn't notice any soot
@@TurnipGreen if you look closely you can see that that room would have had a ceiling with a floor above
you can see the holes either side where the beams would have been to support the floor
you can also see what looks like a fireplace high up on the wall on what would have been the upper floor
that why the 2 entrances, bottom part was probably some kind of cellar, probably didnt get lit up or heated up
@@TurnipGreen IDK, after that long I guess it could have been taken away from humidity maybe. Good point though.
Not people, it was goblins
@@orbytl2799could you tell me where to look / what time stamp to see the fireplace for the upper floor? I've been looking and can't see one.
I do think you're right that it would have been an upper floor though, when they first look in to the room from the barred up windows, you can see what looks like an old doorway at the far end of the room. I can't help feeling like it would have felt quite claustrophobic though, being a room entirely of arches. Even though people were shorter back then, that would have made it very long and thin with only the central point to stand up in 🤔 hmm makes me wonder what it was used for! I wish we could know
The part of you two taking turns going down the stairs has got to be the most horrifying but exhilarating experience I've witnessed in all your videos - and holy shit the voices
It's not halloween for me without binging the Grimm Life videos. Random, but just wanted to thank you for the audio on your vids-I appreciate how both of you are mic'd up so we can actually clearly hear what you're saying without background noise!

Another great video Michael and Jessica! Yester Castle is quite new by UK standards. A lot of the English ones date back to 1067. There's a short list for you below. I have visited a lot of them and my family history is linked to Warwick Castle and The Earl of Warwick. The oldest 'occupied inhabited' castle in the world is Windsor Castle in Berkshire. Bodiam Castle in East Sussex was built in 1385 and was used in an Enya music video and some movies. Tintagel Castle ( home of King Arthur ) in Cornwall was built in the 13th century. Recent excavations there have found a stone tablet which bears his name. You should also visit the mystical magical town of Glastonbury, and Glastonbury Tor ( which I can see from where I live ) The town is full of quirky stuff you will both love, then there's Glastonbury Tor, a famous giant mound visited by pilgrims for 2000 years. When our Knights Templar were on their Crusades, they supposedly brought The Holy Grail and it is buried beneath the mound. ( visit the Temple Church in London, which was seen in the Da Vinci Code movie ) The World famous Glastonbury Music Festival is also held every year, attended by approx 250,000 people. Most bands that you can think of have played there. Then there's the Glastonbury Abbey ruins which are amazing! The whole region of South West England is full of mystical mythical wonders. from Cornwall to Glastonbury to Stonehenge to Avebury!
