Hello Pam, these are wonderful. Thank you for sharing this. My mother and Sister run me down when I give hand made gifts. I did knitted Christmas stockings for my sisters children and she told me off for not putting in enough effort. I did my parents a Christmas cross stitch banner and I said it took me three years to do and that is what she told people to run me down. Glad you have people who love the things you make. My nana knitted me a doll one year and I loved it. Blessings lovely from Colleen NZ.

Make things that make you happy and tell your family if they don’t like it to keep to there self. Do it for you and don’t worry about them. Some people aren’t happy unless they are making others feel smaller.

Oh my goodness. Evidently they have no talent to so what you do and are just jealous! I don't knit..I tried and quit after a pair of slippers...couldn't handle two needles so I took up crocheting. Knitted Christmas stockings? How wonderful...not enough 'effort'. She had never tried. How much 'effort' does it take to shop or today, shop on line? That takes NO effort. She is teaching her children the wrong things. So sad for them 😢 And your mother too? I an so sorry. I really could spit about now! And a three year project doing cross stitch? I've done that too. Just order something from Amazon and don't waste your energy or talent anymore. Sorry for ranting. God bless you for your unappreciated efforts. Lets see a terrific junk journal and NOT for them!!!!! 👍🏻🥰🙏

My favorite 'handmade' item is a greeting card my southern grandmother gave me for Easter. It was a drug store birthday card. She crossed out 'birthday' and wrote in 'Easter, then drew a rabbit and a decorated egg on the inside using fabric paint tubes. It's the funniest thing, and it still makes me laugh when I see it.

I typically give to other crafters. Although my family always appreciates what I make, thing go unused, lost, etc. Other crafters understand the time it takes so know what to do. I suspect that’s why some crafters give to charities or sell, too.

On gift-giving and crafting to be easier on ourselves with the perfection connection obsession, it IS good to remember those small inconsistencies (not errors) are part of what makes it homemade. Remembering how Aunt whoever made things for you would give you warm fuzzies is not helpful to some as they were not conditioned as you and I apparently were raised to appreciate the time and effort that went into making something. ON THE DARKER SIDE... imagine me lowering my voice as you do so entertainingly in your videos when you address the darker side:
Society has been programming us steadily to view homemade gifts as "less than". recall the BUNNY PJs that poor boy had on that an aunt made and he was forced to endure! Do you recall the long-suffering look on his face? (and we laughed because it was true)" with the shoot your eye out warning" on that Christmas show we all like with the lamp with a dancer's leg as the base. ( i cannot at this moment remember the name of it but I am not going to let that stop me!) That is but one example. Far from homemade being second best the lesson they did NOT convey as loudly is to make your homemade present applicable and relevant to age! The bigger laugh was any present we got that someone made that was not fitting into that category! That is why I call it programming.(We love to laugh and learn better when we do so, which is why I think your videos are so awesome, you keep us laughing and learning right along! THANK YOU.)
You and I apparently know that behind the hours of making something relevant for someone for a gift is LOVE and that is the greatest power in the universe, which is why the billion or trillion dollar entertainment industry bothers to do what they do with regard to homemade gifts. It Keeps US off the GET IT, BUY IT, WRAP IT, outdoing what someone else gave you TREADMILL they want us on! I am guessing this COULD BE because MANY of their relatives are in retail and want to make a killing off of Christmas, hardly the spirit of the season, and far removed from making a living and not just hand over-fist profit.
It bears repeating: You and I apparently know that behind the hours of making something relevant for someone for a gift is LOVE and that is the greatest power in the universe. It can make their programming efforts laughable if we let it. Let's hope it spreads to those we gift to as well with well thought out and if possible easier than the treadmill gifts we give that will have our friends and family rethinking their position on homemade gifts. Maybe you gift a book they would love with a homemade bookmark as well as a mug for the package of tea you included. Then remember the homemade bookmark will outlast the tea and the reading of the book. CRAFT ON!! FILL IT WITH JOY! SPREAD THE LOVE!

Great advice🤗 - make it with or without a journal.
Making embellishments can be the “gateway” to going full-on journal making-lol. Eventually- you’ll want somewhere for all those beautiful embellishments to live-🌼 Your “use up pages” playlist is enough to make embellishments enough for ten journals 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Hugs to Sunshine from the Bostons 🐾💜
PS thanx for straightening up that jack 😂🤣😂

Thank-you for that, I was sending my journals to the states to sell. They all sold but like you I thought they are not to look perfect. All the ones that were coming in were so perfect I could not keep up with spending so much money so I stopped sending and went back to my style.

There really is something inherently beautiful about... who moved my daubers??
This is my life, except the answer is almost always "me". Lol

hi Pam know what you mean about using the cards, its very nostalgic, as a kid my mother played cards with us kids all the time,( not poker ) rummy and such and it is a wonderful memory. I took your recommendation about checking out other journal creators and came across one in particular ,called Betty's Custom designs and she was making faux vellum ,with bees wax and regular copy paper, Really a cool idea, i wanted to share the video with you but, i am embarrassed to say i don't know how to share a video ,but maybe you can search for it. The effect is awesome.Your friend carla aka pete from arizona

Can someone direct me to the multiple design tool that Pam was using with the mini designs? I've never seen such a thing and it is cool. I loved this episode and am going to try these flaps in just a second.
