I must say that Duncanville and North Shore are 2 of the biggest High School Football Teams in Texas. But Mater Dei is one of the best High School Football Teams in the Nation along with IMG Academy.

They also have a D1 Regional Title from 2017...a 31-3 win over North Shore, who would go on to win back-to-back D1 Titles in '18 and '19. Katy would have won the D1 Title in 2015, when they were named National Champs. They may have won the D1 Title in 2012 also, another year where they were named National Champs. Don't act like Katy can't win in D1.
@@thunderpuppy6719 In 2012, they played Cedar Hill in the D2 Bracket. And in case you forgot, Katy beat a Freshman Davis who didn’t spend the Off-Season with the Varsity Squad until Mid-October. And in that game, i EXPECTED Katy to overwhelm a Freshman QB. It would’ve been a bad look for the program if an incredible raw Freshman QB was able to slice them up. And on another note, Katy simply can’t get it done in D1, which i don’t blame them, there are better teams out there such as Westlake, Duncanville, and of course, North Shore.

@@dion4037 I think every team has a size criteria for their linemen. You don't put little guys in there if your plan is to run the ball. That said, Katy's center is only 6', 250 lbs., but holds the Katy record for pancake blocks in a game at 14. The guy that held the previous record of 13 was 6'7", 295 lbs. Katy's D-line was relatively small compared to the O-lines they faced all year. Before Malik Sylla's injury, they were listed at 215, 215 and 220 pounds. Sylla's replacement is listed at 230.
They actually weren't that big. The biggest starter is 285 and the smallest is 230, but they're very athletic.

There's a good chance that Katy goes d1 and Westlake goes d2, so they could end up winning state in the opposite divisions from this last season.

How big is a 6a high school? Basically a college campus?
6A enrollment is 2,200 and up. Allen is the largest 6A school at 7,000 students. They have two separate campuses.

@@ajgraves8016 6a coaches dont want to pre split the class in two divisions so my guess is they create a 7A with 96 of the largest schools to create eight districts with 8 schools in each. Some major flaws in this plan that need to be resolved :
1. the Laredo schools in far south/southwest Texas would be very isolated. There is only 2 schools in the top 96 and the area is already isolated as the other schools in 5A are paired with the Valley schools (2 1/2 hours away) and with San Antonio schools in the past(2 1/2 hours away)
2. San Antonio/Austin/Cen Tex wouldn't field too many schools in this classification with further compounds the issue with the 2 Laredo schools. You would theoretically have a 7 or 8 team district spanning 300 miles on I-35.
3. West Texas would also have an issue with only 4 schools in this class. The closest schools to create an 8 team district would be the DFW area 5 hours away.
4. Because of the long travel problems this creates, those two districts would have to create a zone setup to minimalize the travel(which means only 3 zone games and a non district to count as a one ) Zone champs would meet up for the district title but both teams would earn their spot in the playoffs. 2nd places teams could duke it out for 3rd and 4th or agree to decide by reg season points. DFW and Houston wouldn't be affected as both metros field the most teams in 7A and the least amount of travel for district games( 1 hr at the most)

Katy is about 30 mi West of Houston on I-10. Cedar Hill is about 13 miles North of ATT stadium in DFW.

@@colbygarrow No problem. There are 8 schools in Katy's District. Four schools from each District make the playoffs in Texas. The two larger ones go into the D1 bracket. The two smaller ones go into the D2 bracket. Katy was the third largest of the schools who made the playoffs. They were D1 the last 3 years because there weren't two schools larger than them that made the playoffs. I understand it's confusing. It confuses Texans, too.
Even tho black high schools have good athletes they tend to be too undisciplined in their style of play to have extended dynasties like the Westlakes and Carolls. In Texas you got to have your fundamentals down if you want consistent results every year. White schools simply have better coaching.

Katy's first big school Title was in D1, Skippy. Katy was D2 this year because Tompkins and Seven Lakes, who both made the playoffs, have larger enrollments. Katy isn't scared of anyone, nor should they be. You forget they beat North Shore in the season opener last year on national TV. North Shore was the number 1 team in the nation at the time. Even Duncanville with their 5,000 kids never beat North Shore.
