Brilliant video. I remember the Macfisheries as a nipper.....the sight of the dead fish in the window and the smell used to upset delicate little me! And that statue of Rombold has moved more times than I have. My dad worked on building the 'new' market and, even though I've not lived in Keighley since the early 80's, I still like to walk through and reminisce.

Remebr it all well, especially Low Street and the building of Morrisions! Making Low Street pedestrianised and building Morrisions helped Keighleys grid lock develop so much quicker.
As always planners got it wrong and still do this day.

I was born in Keighley in 68. Both my parents were born and raised in Keighley but in 74 we emigrated to New Zealand. My mother left school and worked in Mariners for a short time. My dad left school and attended teh polytechnic in Keighley and later opened a garage. My aunt had a hair dressing business in the Tuner and Wall arcade for some time. As I was so young I don't remember an awful lot about Keighley but I remember visiting my Gran who live at Sunny Dale View - now known as Thwaites Brow Road I believe. We used to live in Moor View Grove. I remember going to the Keighley fair. I remember the Bake and Take bakery on Cavendish street I remember the town shopping centre not being covered up because I got lost there when once out with my grandparents shopping, and remember the multi story car pack that always stank of pee! I remember leaving Keighley for New Zealand and arriving in Auckland was a culture shock after Keighley. I've been back to Keighley many times over the years as I still have relations there (I moved back to the UK in 93 and now live in London). I have vague ,and few but fond memories of Keighley but can't say I would like to live there now. Forgive errors - dodgy keyboard.

I Look out of my window & see the Hillside OVERVIEW of Keighley, Looking towards Long Lee & Haworth Just exactly as you see the view of Grange & the River aire.
I think they took that picture from my Window.
Stockbridge,Victoria park, the old Magnet factory.
The fore ground is Scott Lane Riddlesden. View taken from Slade Lane / Banks Lane. It is MY EXACT VIEW = SPOOKY to see my view from almost 60 yrs ago .
I wish i could post a photo of that same view now in 2019. to Compare. at 00:37 secs & later the same view.

Looks classy to what Keighley is now. This was before the influx.

Calm down guys, Steely Davey is actually referring to the “influx” of capitalist, market fundamentalist policies which now dominate the world and have made manufacturing towns like Keighley all over the UK the economically depressed places they are today.
