  • Since existing info on these cars fiber optic stereos basically sucked, here's a new video series showing you 1) how they work, and how to diagnose and fix a common problem with a 2003 - 2005 factory BOSE W220 S500, S430, S600, and S55 BOSE Comand radio and NAV head unit that indicates a "System Unavailable" message on screen, then powers down and shuts off. The most probable issue is likely a damaged Becker AGW BE 7003 BASIS audio gateway (AGW) unit! The gateway is the Comand head unit's remotely located "pre-amp" unit which processes all car audio, phone audio, crossover, Teleaid, etc, and can easily be replaced for about $200 USD on Ebay. SYMPTOM: If the head unit powers on and then shuts off, its very likely NOT the COMAND head unit itself which has failed. First, please check all the fuses as shown in my part 2 video. It's NOT the car battery causing problems if your car will start! This MOST ring theory also applies to most E series like E300, E430, E55 AMG, E500 and many other Audi, BMW, VW, and Benz models. 2) Fix the Audio Gateway (AGW), location and tips for fuses, and all about the fiber optic MOST ring is also covered. 3) Bonus: massively over complex and long explanation of the entire system, with part 2 also discussing replacing the entire radio with aftermarket setup from China. Make your BENZ great again and watch this deplorable video!

No water in wheel...vehicle is garage kept. Becker Auto Sound in NJ again is being gracious and sending another rebuilt Bose Amplifier; but, they are telling to look elsewhere in the system for this intermittent cold temp failure issue. Are there any stored fault codes to look for with a high end computer or fuses that may be causing this intermittent cold temp failure? I had similar problem with instrument cluster...top rebuilder in country..Hamp's Speedometer..in Cumming, Georgia had replaced power supply 2+ years ago...during this cold snap...small LED display in center of cluster was dark..not showing miles...car warms up ....display works...pull cluster..bring back to Hamp's Speedometer...puts unit in freezer...pulls out and tests...finds hairline cracks where a module is soldered to circuit board...he re- solders all components connected to circuit board...problem fixed. Share this fix with Becker Auto Sound in NJ...today...they performed cold temp test and could not find any problem with Bose Amplifier. Is there something intermittently going bad in audio gateway? Fuse in other components in trunk? Help!

Wow. You know this system...I am having a problem with my 2006 MB S500.....January 2023...in Roswell, Georgia...cold snap...start car...sound coming out of right speaker only...loud & distorted...consult with Atlanta Auto Sound & Accessories..." Fred, its the Bose Amp going bad..head unit is fine...send unit to Becker Auto Sound in NJ...they cannot find cold temp. failure problem...send me new unit...install...fine for 10 months...cold temp in December 2023...same failure...warmer temp...unit works.....January 2024...cold temp failure for sound...weather warms up...unit works...send unit to Becker Auto Sound in NJ for warranty check...again they cannot find cold temp problem with my unit; but, they are graciously sending another. Do you have any idea what else I can check for cold temp sound failure? Again, head unit has never failed yet?

I have bose speakers in mine and my speakers sometimes fade out and all the sound goes to the sub in the shelf and I can't figure out what the problem is because sometimes it works fine when I use the Bluetooth phone.

sometimes I get the same message "system unavailable". But everything comes back after about 20 miles of driving. It usually happens when there is a problem with drained battery. I have to remove the CD changer to see if it stops the drain. The unit is not there. It is just a frame or something lol
