I totally agree! With all our cool gear, and rifles, we need these basic skills to help survive. I actually just filmed a video the other day on just this subject. I’ll be uploading in a day or two.

Honestly there are just so many variables right now occurring in the world it would just be wise to be prepared for a variety of situations. Mainly my goal has been just to say bad things just don't happen in the summer so have the gear to operate 24/7 in any weather. It won't be choice if you need to operate in January for example. Don't be afraid to post up a link to your video in the comments here. There is plenty of room in the sand box to help other guys. Stay in touch bro.

Great stuff, we learned this as kids in Boy Scouts, but I think the added note on dead standing wood was something I never learned about. Btw what jacket are you wearing in this vid?

The guys from One Shepherd and S&S Training solutions have said "In winter/snow conditions, the environment will kill you before the enemy does." A lot of guys think it's crazy to build a fire in a tactical scenario, but if your on the doorstep of hypothermia, you'll risk the visual signiture. Oh, and the enemy's going to be doing it too, if they don't, then I guess you'll have it easy. You won't always be making a fire, but most certainly there are times you will.

Mitch really good to hear from you. We do follow S&S on Instagram and their winter forge class looks really awesome. I'd like to get a winter class set up out west hopefully one of these days. Regarding the fire, there are many many scenarios but in general many guys will simply not have the vast supply chain that a global superior force will have. So yes in some cases you might need a fire. But also as One Shepard & S&S mention dealing with the cold, this is also why we keep stressing also having the gear to fight in the cold. You will not have a choice and it will not be a joke if you find yourself fighting in the cold.
