Kim Hughes was such a great mother figure on this classic show! I miss the late great Kathryn Hays who played the role of the great Kim Hughes. Kathryn Hays, you are forever missed. RIP Kathryn Hays.
So gorgeous and appropriate for a soap opera, especially one as traditional as As the World Turns. This is what I call a soap opera theme! Of course, none of the ATWT themes could ever best the orchestrated version of the original theme!
stylish, elegant, gorgeous, lush, vets besides newbies--this hit all the right notes! ATWT a sad imitation of itself. I feel so badly for those that made this job their life's work (Lisa, Nancy, Kim, Bob, even Margo and Tom, all the vets. Sob-Martha's Lily & Holden).
This was also one of my favorite ATWT themes. This theme has more of the classic soap feel to it. As as one member wrote, it is very "befitting of the grand dame of daytime." The pictures of Kim, Bob and Lisa are fabulous. All have aged very well, as has Nancy - Helen Wagner - who is 91!

absolutely the BEST overall theme they EVER had! Elegant and befitting the grand dame of daytime. Many themes have their relevance. The 70's melodrama with that fake globe are iconic (though dated) and the modern 80's "star-warsy" theme with the three light sabers coming out was a personal favorite period for me--so I obviously have a soft spot for that one (though it prob doesn't really "fit" ATWT). The 2008 didn't really fit the show, though I like it. mid 90's was nice, but got stale.
When I was a loser who dropped out highschool and probably had a GED and no "job" yet, I used to watch this religiously... I think it was everyday like 2pm or 230 pm lol .
OMG! I relate to you so much right now, that's when I started watching ATWT and other daytime soaps too. I dropped out of school and was watching stuff like this during the day before I had to get my GED. I bet you any money there's a lot of kids who dropped out like us that resorted to getting into daytime dramas back then. LOL!

I was at home watching my soaps, I had a job at the time where I worked evenings around 3-4 times a week. Normally, I watched the soaps before I got ready for work, and that's how I started my day. I was definitely freeloading off my moms. LOL! I wasn't getting paid much to buy video games. I didn't have cable at the time either, so I had to watch the local channels. I got fed up with the talk shows, and needed something different to watch, and I got addicted to the hot women on these soaps. LOL!

I liked when they first premiered this new theme song and you got a tease of the first seconds of the song in the last scene before they cut away to the full theme. I would like to see that posted.

dbrooks, it's the truth. i read it online a few days ago, and they said that on september 17, 2010, as the world turns will be airing it's final episode. i'm still in shock over this. the real reason why cbs axed the soap opera is because of falling ratings, and hardly nobody watching as the world turns anymore. so yes, my friend, i am VERY serious about this.
news flash, news flash! as the world turns is coming to an end in september 2010 after 54 years. the network axed the long running soap opera. we will miss as the world turns.
This & Jelinda's Theme were ATWT's greatest themes IMO. And Alyson Rice (Connor #1), Elena Goode (Jade #1), Sherry Alexander (Samantha #2), Chris Fuller (Jef), Ashley Williams (Dani) should have stayed on for years. They were some of the greatest in the show. I also loved Martha Byrne (Lily #1), of course, Kelley Menighan Hensley (Emily) & Maura West/
Nancy, Holden, Lucinda, and Jack WERE the STARS of this show....so irritating that they get hardly any screen time in this intro compared to the newbies.
Does anyone happen to know the love theme for Jef & Emily? I will never forget it playing when they broke up & Jef packed his bags. Sounds likely to be an R&B/Soul ballad. I converted it to MP3, but am clueless to the artist & song title. Google search has become a dead end & no online outlets to make an inquiry. Jef was one of my favorite characters & handled Dani's crush on him rather well & delicately. I wish he & Emily had a more successful relationship. He was great for her.
Yeah, and include Luke and Noah!! Goutman and the head writers were a shame, and CBS didn't give a damn, because they only wanted to get rid of their soaps. Now, they can watch General Hospital having DOUBLE the ratings in the key demo than the crappy talk show that replaced ATWT in the same time slot.

Everything about this opening made our afternoon bright; that was when the show came on at 2PM
I miss the dark CBS logo on the right side of the screen that was my childhood days until 2008 when the logo itself changed from dark to light.
I woke up from many an afternoon nap to this during the college days. Love this intro and the ones from the 80's and 90's.
This version is, by far, my favorite of the ones since the spinning globe versions of the 70s and 80s.
