- Budget Ls Swap S10 in 2021? This Video contains a basic parts list for everything that you need to get started on your engine swap. There are lots of new parts out on the market now that were not developed yet when I was originally doing the swap on my S10. Everything in this video (in my opinion) will work perfectly for a majority of the swap projects out there. Your specific truck may be a little different, depending on the year model and your goals/plans.
Holley has a section on their website dedicated to Ls Swaps. Offering options from S-Series all the way to A-body's and Mustangs. They're a little higher on the price, but they're really good quality stuff. Hopefully soon we can get a sponsorship from Holley.
I hope that this video helps out, that's the goal of it. If you need any advice please drop a comment or message my Instagram account, and I will try my best to get it figured out with you.

Man I love your s10 what a beautiful build. Im looking forward to ls swap an s10 or a 3rd/4th gen camaro. By the happy Happy early birthday to you man🔥
man i've watched several swap videos and i had began to wonder if it was really that complicated. after watching this video i feel 100x better about tackling the job.
Awesome. I have a new updated video as well.
Great video. Great truck. Keep posting 😀 We used a Holley TerminatorX in our 6.0ls swap.
Thanks for the header/sparkplug info bro! For anyone doing an ls swapped in the near future, DO NOT use the ebay shorty headers. Trust me, spend the money. You'll just wind up spending the same amount on heat socks, plug wires, and collector gaskets. Along with several burnt fingers and hot days under the truck! Ask me how I know
Only an idiot would try a shorty header, let's go Brandon...
How do you know
Thanks for all your videos love the info you drop it helped me so much
No problem man! That’s my goal!
Disregard last comment, my ankle surgery was a success, but I had a cast for six weeks and then went to a leg boot to a ankle brace and now wearing a compression sock cause the swelling is so bad. Don't push recovery, stay OFF that leg and just give your ankle time to heal. Have a friend who didn't do this and just had a 2nd operation on his foot. Btw , Happy Birthday!!!
I have a 02 and a 92 s10 . I have the 5.3 in the 92 and it’s running. I’m putting twins on it . I love the channel. I just started my CZcams channel
Another great video. And happy early birthday zack.
Massaged brake booster, very diplomatic. I like it.
Holley terminator x max is the sh#%
I'm Learning more about it as I go project 6.0SS should be on the street shortly hand surgery slowing me down. Gotta get some 15x10 rims for rear then solve the bed fuel door. All your information is greatly appreciated.
Lots of good info !!keep it up !
Just putting a old school 78 small block 350 and turbo 350 trans , Headers , and swapping in a 8.5 Chevy S-10 rear end
$400- S-10 Truck
Free - 350 Engine /Trans 1978
Traded - New Headers
Free- 8.5 Chevy S-10 rear end
$50- motor mounts
Still have the 78 Silverado the engine/trans it came out of
Badass build my man thanks for the help
Thanks for sharing, I've got a 96 sanoma I'm hoping to put an ls in. Have the 5.3 Vortec just hopeful to get all the parts I need
Check out my newest version of this video.
So I am doing an S 10 LS swap and I am curious on what you did for the rear end and driveshaft
Or for the rear coil, you can buy a rear coil reverse kit. It flips the back ones around so you don’t have to change you brake booster or a/c box.
or just run truck coils and bolt the bottom hole of the truck coil to the top hole of the truck coil bracket
Super informative video! Will you be doing another video like this for other parts that are needed to swap a S10? Maybe a series? Appreciate the information man, I’m right in the midst of doing my own swap on a ‘01 with a LS1 out of a ‘02 camaro ss.
What’d you do for your fuel pump?
@@daltonhatcher8593 Stock fuel pump will work.
Hey man love the truck doing a 96 S10 right now how did you do your heater hoses to the core?
Was thinking about doing something different, I have a 2001 bravada AWD. I was curious about your Thoughts or recommendations on motor swaps? Or just go a different route? Hope to hear from you soon.
Thank you for the great info
Been wanting to do an ls swap c10 or g body for a while now. I imagine any clearance issues on a c10 shouldnt really be a problem lol.
im thinking about dropping an ly6 into an s10 since its basically just an ironblock truck version of an ls3 but it's obviously not anywhere near as common as a 5.3 swap everything should be pretty much similar since its an ls based engine though id assume, any idea?
Next time you’re in leitchfield can you help me out? My trucks a 96 as well this is my first swap with no mechanical experience would appreciate the help bought my truck off Jarrett motor and trans came from Denny running into some issues with dipstick tube fitment and manifold gasket clearance and have no idea ab the rest of my swap I’m wanting to learn everything about this swap so I can fix little things considering I plan on drifting this truck
Those transdapt mounts in rubber are horrible...the CPW and Metalteks are just SOOOOO much better...also truck coils dont hit the booster with better mounts
What mounts do you recommend with the 5.3
where is your video?
@@jpharmon7343 7 months later you're gonna take that personally? 😂
any recommendations on what vehicle to source an LS from? I know there are a ton of different versions of the LS and I'm clueless about the differences.
In your older video you mentioned a new intermediate steering shaft. I have the gen 1 and it is junk and no way to replace it. Before I can even do anything or buy a motor that has to be sorted out. What did you get? I didn't see a part number listed anywhere. Thanks
Thanks for the video. Hope your foot is better by now.
Foot is almost 100%. Haven’t had any issues, but I can definitely tell it’s weaker now. And my ankle joint pops a lot.
@@LsBluu hope in time, things get better. Truck looks great.
Which mounts did you go with where you didn't have to cut the crossmember? Muscle car oil pan right?
I hope that you feel quickly.
does the 8th cylinder pipe on the header have to wrap around on a 4wd too? i’m looking into the swap found a kit and judging by that part the kit wouldn’t work
I’m putting an 01 4.8 in my 97 4wd S10 I’ve put a 3 inch body lift on it I have the Silverado pcm and wiring the ls motor mounts just waiting on my headers is there anything you can tell me about the plan and the wiring of the pcm
Where did you get your steel braided brake lines and fitting from for your s10 or did you make it yourself
Is it possible to do a 5.3 or 6.0 swap with the manual transmission that came with the 2.2 s10 year 2000 would like to know if I could do this when my motor finally fails without swapping transmissions to stay very budget friendly with dependable daily driver thanks
Also what HP am I looking with the 5.3 ls everything completely new rings filed cam 572 or 574 lift just wanted new seals in heads but everything completely redone
I have a 1997 s10 pickup gonna put a 5.3ls with the 6l80 transmission do you remember the parts number for your oil pan that's what I'm having a problem with can you help
I'm looking at buying a 2003 4x4 S10. I had a '99 ZR2 back when it was New and it was a TON of fun. How difficult would it be to do the LS swap with 4x4?
Hope you get better soon buddy
Grenaded my 4.3 . . . so mow, l'm considering an LS into my Sonoma ZQ8. Question -- what transmission are you running. I' thinking of going manual (T-5)
What say you? Thanks
What header is better for fit ,if you are running factory a/c short or long?
Hi good video, can you make a video on your harness hookup?thanks
Run Holley Terminator X. I did. Best harness there is and the tubing capabilities are endless.
Great Info!!!....Thanks!!!
Has anyone done a Conversion on a LS s-10 4 wheel drive. Currently a 4.3 and I want to install a 5.3 . Anyone’s thoughts or help ... Thank You
It sucks you cant get any real headers for a zr2 4x4 s10 LS swap. All that I know of that work are the cast steel exhaust manifolds from the LS1 98-99 camaro/TransAm (F-bodies) which still need the 3 bolt flange cut off with an extension welded to them. I've also hear that the early (05-07or 08 IIRC) gmc envoy 5.3 and trailblazer 5.3L exhaust manifolds will fit a zr2 s10/blazer. I believe they too need to be modified as well. I'm not sure if the trailblazer SS exhaust manifolds will and I cant find any information on that either. If anyone knows a better manifild or header solution for a LS swap in a 2000 zr2 4x4 s10 that has no aftermarket suspension or body lift kit on it, please share. I'm doing an L33 aluminum block 5.3 swap into my zr2 with a bed mounted turbo once I have the 5.3L's bugs worked out. My L33 already has an LS6 intake with a 3 bar MAP and DBC throttle body swapped onto it with 80lb injectors.
Your not on your knee scooter any more , how did your MRI come out???
What about the wiring harness
I'm going to steal the term "massaged it with a hammer" lol
Awesome, information
This is exactly why I went with a built carbureted 350 swap instead. Parts a little cheaper. Although it's a lot more work to swap everything over
Same
Can I do this on my 4x4 blazer?
Would you do any out side work?
Thanks
Yo Chevy just revealed the new 10.4L 1000HP crate motor. Anybody planning on fitting one of those into an S10 yet?
the short headers u showed about number 8 wrapping around will those fit a 97 s-10 with stock steering shaft and column shifter ?
Yes. They should work fine.
I have 95 2.2L would to need to change the rear diff out for something stronger? For me I'm not looking for drag race power, just a engine for general hauling and driving. (For me this is an eventual project when the old 2.2 dies, which may be many years from now...)
Yes absolutely you need a stronger rear end
I have a 97 S10 ZR2 4x4 and I recently totaled my 2011 Sierra with the 5.3 in it. Would the swap on the 4x4 be a pain in the butt?
My brother in law just did a zr2 and he said moving the firewall back 2 inches made all of the difference!
I’m having an issue with the steering column shaft hitting the header. Any idea how to reroute and what hardware I will need?
May have to go in and adjust motor mounts slightly, maybe massage the header with a hammer or like a brass hammer to dent it(won’t affect flow), and maybe get an aftermarket steering shaft.
Youd really only want 1 7/8th for a 6 liter or bigger anyway, avoid that pricey stuff
What would you say the total cost would be to do a basic LS swap in a 96 S10? Motor and trans aready purchased.
My neighbor charged $1500
Massaged booster with hammer and tire tool 😂😂😂. That’s what I would have done.
Hey lsBluu I got a 1998 s-10 2.2 rwd that I'm currently swapping with a L33 with a stock nv3500 5 speed from the 6 cyl any advice you can give me ??
let me know what you have to fo to the trans to get it to bolt to the nv3500
Makes iron swap manifolds look like a good option
They won’t fit
There is not a iron manifold available aftermarket?
Will the 4l60 bolt right up and do you need to change anything on the transmission? thx
If its to a 4.8-6 liter itll bolt up fine probably just be mods to the trans x member to make it work since the s10 never optioned an 8 cyl with a 4l60
Happen to know if any of Hedman exhaust products would clear a 4WD suspension?
I’m not entirely sure if it would clear or not.
Did u have to do anything with the steering column ??
All my stock steering column stuff worked.
Can do a 5.3 Vortec swap without performance parts and keeping it stock?
Absolutely.
I got beautiful stainless headers for my s10 in ebay for $199! They work GREAT! Screw making Hooker richer. You absolutely don't need 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" tubes for an LS no matter how much power you're making. Exhaust is forced out and huge tubes are overkill and doesn't make more power. It LOOKS great but they are a waste of money
Whats you fuel system setup? Like stock s10 tank with stock pump?
Fuel cell in the bed with walbro 255 in-line pump. C5 Corvette fuel regulator.
Been thinking about swapping my 2004 blazer do you know how easy a 5.3 swap is?
Shouldn’t be no big deal.
Modified 98-99 f body exhaust manifolds work well
Modified how
@@LsBluu hammered one of the runners on the driver side to clear the steering shaft. Cut off the flanges. Little bit of cutting, hammering and welding to get good clearance on the manifolds from the the control arms. Extended the manifolds with some straight exhaust pieces. Then added v band flanges to the ends of exhaust. Might be better options out there but it was fun making something work on my own.
Have you done anything at all to the suspension?
Removed overload spring on rearend, Qa1 single read adjustables, Caltracs, stock front coil spring, extended ball joints, and Viking Crusader front shocks.
Was the harnesses hard to hook up?
Not really, it took a little time trying to pin everything out in the truck. I didn't bother with hooking the gauges up.
What set up did you go with on rear end?
7.6 or 8.5?
Gear ratio?
Great freaking build btw!! Killer truck
9” with 4.10’s. Check out the full playlist on the rearend swap. And thanks man!
czcams.com/play/PLJ9V8HgbPXzal7jgO5-zL-YE0v1E_9YZ5.html
I watched your rear end series I’m just curious what driveshaft did you use once you got the 9 inch installed ?
Was the stock nintysix ECU tunable by itself
I think you MIGHT be able to tune it. I'm not sure what it would take though.
Sorry for the stupid question but is the 5.3 out of a 2003 Tahoe LS actually considered an LS? I read somewhere that it wasn’t a “true LS”
It's a LS. Some will argue that it's not because it doesn't have a LS RPO code. However you can swap parts from most LS engines onto a 5.3 because it is in fact the same architecture
@@beardedforlife3740 ok thanks for the response
Why can't you run the factory oil pan from the ls engine?
You could, if you notched the frame. Without doing that, the sump on the factory pan extends far forward.
@@LsBluu Thank you for answering my question. I have a L83 and I'm saving up for a T56 for my 95 Sonoma. I'll definitely be looking up this type of oil pan. Does your racing pan hang lower than the skid plate or is it slightly above flush? Your truck looks awesome btw
Should I 5.3 swap a 2.2 s10, and how hard would it be
Do it. Won’t be too bad.
6.0 is the way to go
what about drive shaft/ rear end set up?
At the time of this video, the stock rearend held up, and I had the stock driveshaft shortened.
Use a 8.8 ford rear from a 99 explorer or so and shorten the drive shaft
Do I need aftermarket front accessory drive mounts?
Yes.
What’s a good estimate of what it would cost to fully LS swap it correctly?
Correctly and it look and run good around $2500-$3500
@@LsBluu thanks I really needed this info I love the s10 and want to do a LS swap but I’m a pure rookie at this.
Why not just use advanced adapter for your engine swap source ???
What is that?
Advance adapter was the first company to make and offer engine swap kits
What accessories brackets did u use
Stock Silverado.
What all did you have to do to do the bumper conversion
The rear bumper? There are some brackets that have to be removed, and there are some parts of the bed on the very back that’ll need to be removed or fit. After that you’ll drill holes and use bolts to secure it to the truck.
The front bumper
Did you have to stretch the frame at all
No.
How’s your ankle buddy? I know how it is too be down and it freaking sucks, I broke my wrist and it needed surgery around my birthday
It’s gotten better. Still not 100%, I don’t think it ever will. But it is better.
@@LsBluu same for my wrist. I have a internal screw and it’s been going on a year since I’ve had surgery. It’s improved significantly but still hurts here and there if I bend it a certain way. I also have a s10, a 2.2 liter 5 speed. It’s a 2001 model and I love it. Your s10 brought me to this Chanel and I really enjoy watching it.
Does your cluster work?
No. I never wired it up
What year is your s10
1996.
What u used for fuel pump?
Walbro 255
What driveshaft do I need for this swap
I used stock
@@LsBluu Thought you said you used a 9in Ford?, If you did there's no way you used the stock driveshaft as it'd need shortened by a large amount
Bro you doing good operations I know any one hear in now S10 Chevrolet my 5 speed 1999 any want let me know I can used side 20 my friend tell me you put 20 take more gasoline let me know please best used like 17 or 18 thank you
What rear end do you have in it?
9”.
I'm doing a ls swap on my s10 6.0l 4l80e. Do you have any tips

Strange this is popping up now. That used to be a good looking S10!
Good video lider thanks👍🤝
I like s10 with a v8
They’re fun
Bro you got way More space with a 5.3 then a 4.3 😂😂
100%
I am sorry but there is no good reason why don't you had her should cost $1,200 it probably cost that company $250 Topps to manufacture just companies trying to be greedy
??
I want to buy this truck
My goal is to build a street legal Nascar truck. I wanna slam it to the ground, remove everything, and just go barebones stock with a carbureted 350 🥹
