Important information here! I need to keep reviewing ear training more. Singing the intervals feels weird though. These lessons are really incredibly helpful to me. I use them along with the Guitar Wisdom subscription. Thanks for the guidance and direction.
Glad it was helpful! So great to hear that. This lesson has Music Theory & Ear Training. Use both then its effective! Thanks for subscribing my Guitar Wisdom. Please enjoy Jazz Standards section! Great for your ears!
God I love the positive attitude.
Thanks so much!
Wow I’m totally mesmerized by the wisdom shared. Like, where were you all my life?!

"Be friendly to notes." - Tomo Fujita
My favorite quote ever.
Thanks so much!
Same as my approach. Learn the scale on 1 string. It enforces the person to recognize the sound and interval between notes. Along with triad/inversion practice in every key, learning the fretboard comes naturally, vertically and horizontally, I knew where each notes is. No memorization.
Good job! Thank you!
I’m on the rewind path of my guitar playing after meeting you. Thank u so much.
Good job! Thank you so much!
I hate that! It’s like you play through the mistakes hoping you’ll “polish” them off later but they tend to stick.
Greetings from India!
Sir I was able to follow till about half the video where open strings were involved but after that the bar chords etc I could not understand
I'll take my time, I'm sure as I learn I'll be able to understand more. Thank you for the lesson.
Thanks for sharing! Simply you need more foundation when you don't understand it. No problems at all! You can learn it slowly. Please watch these lessons (Super Simple)

Don't worry! Good job! You should learn any scale on One String One Finger first. Then think 3 things. 1) C D E F G A B C = name of notes
2) R M2 M3 4 5 M6 M7 = Intervals = Theory
3) Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do = singing = Ear Training
These 3 things must at first lesson! Thank you for sharing!
Please focus on this first.

I heard long ago the reason C is the start is cause of it's position on the piano keyboard
I watched some lessons the other day and played some of the best I ever have that night, and I didn't study. I just played along with you in the way I did and your info just kinda came in once in a while, Thanks. I will be signing onto guitar wisdom when I get back to work, Thank you Tomo
I recently heard that the reason C is the place to start is because there are no sharps or flats in the C scale, rather than cause the middle C placement on the piano keyboard
Thank you for sharing! So happy to hear that! My Guitar Wisdom is the best guitar education! Looking forward to your experience!
I started on piano as a kid, I think we start with key of C on piano because no black keys are used ( flats/sharps). Guitar lessons that teach music notation on guitar also work in the Key of C, waiting till later to learn sharps and flats
I thought this sounded better in the key of C than even the Jam version video you did previously. It definitely sounded like it was in a lower key.
Thank you so much! Thank you for sharing!
I love this. You are a great teacher.
Wow, thank you!
I think "Don't ask" is the best answer for who just started learning musical theory.
Knowing(NOT understanding) the basic concept of music helps you later.
In my case, I started learning theories with Jazz basics.
But I didn't knew anything of basic concepts back then, it made me lots of question marks in my head something like 'What is II V I?' and 'Why D chord is minor in C major key?'.
Those question marks disappeared when I learned basic musical concepts(intervals, chords, diatonic chords, etc.).
So, I also recommend "Don't ask" at the first time when you learning theories.
It''s all about timing! That's applying theory. I have Theory II at my Guitar Wisdom. Thanks for sharing. Good job!
Up, down. Long strokes. Big board right hand, small board left hand.
Tomo says don't ask... Paint whole fence.
Thank you, Mr Fujita. After many years of playing around with the guitar now I have some hope that I might move in the direction of how to actually play it and possibly even attain some understanding of the instrument. You are indeed an inspiration !!!

@@TomoFujitaMusic And what you made up is absolutely brilliant! Is there anyway you could post a simple chord chart for the rhythm part? I would very much like to learn this. Or maybe do a tutorial video dedicated to teaching it from beginning to end? That would be amazing. 😁😁😁

great vid. Tomo do you think learning scales by note names or intervals is better? Does it matter?
Thanks so much! I explained that part so clear in this video! Watch 3 more times!
Thank you, Tomo-san, for sharing this important lesson. A practical question, if I may. With practice, I can hear the intervals and sing them as you demonstrate while going up the fretboard. I can also see the intervals up and down in the scale as I play on one string. The problem is that I don't yet have a connection in my brain between the note F, for example, and the "Fa" yet.
Should I write out a table with M2 = Re, M3 = Mi, P4 = Fa, and so forth while practicing up and down and singing them as I go until I have the equivalence between the interval and the solfege tone locked in? Or is there a better way in your experience?
Thank you for taking the time to teach us!
Thanks for telling me... you can do everything super slow and as many as you needed with no expectation. Slow process is great! Maybe you can do in 3rds... Do Mi Re Fa Mi So... Do Re Mi Re Mi Fa Mi Fa So... be creative to make a few new sequences of simple C Major scale. Maybe next lesson! Series of lesson can really teach you how to play guitar! No best way! Look for harder way! You're very welcome!
Thx Tomo!!!
(Q: do you play with the round end of the pick or the pointed end of the pick? Just curious, thx. 🤷🏽♂️)
Pointy part. But I use rounder part too
@@TomoFujitaMusic Thx Tomo! I ask because one part of your video it looked like you were using the rounded edge. I use the rounded edge at times to get a mellower tone, especially with the bridge pickup on my telecaster.
I find it useful to remember the major scale by steps..and for the major scale .its
W W h W W W h
W =Whole step /2 frets
h = half step/1 fret
Thanks for sharing
I had a friend back in the early 70's who played single string leads up and down the neck to rock songs, I must say it was jazzy and very interesting. Keep up the good work.
Awesome! Thanks!
Hi Tomo - fun linear one-string exercise -- may I ask your preference for a looper(s)? I'm in the market. Thank you
I use a Boss RC-3 Looper pedal. Thank you!
Random tought I had watching this video, if I'm playing something in the key of C major would playing D major and G major works or not ? Thanks for the videos really great :)
Thanks for sharing. You're welcome! I II V = very Beatles sound
C major scale with one finger on one string. Fully explained. 16:00, I hear "dont ask". I'm thinking what? How can I not ask? Then I remember the first 40 years of my guitar playing. I didn't ask. I saw and repeated what I saw. Eventually my curiosity got the best of me and I've done nothing but ask questions for the last several years. By that time I had a framework to fit the answers into.
Thanks for sharing! Ask timing is so important. This conversation is between my Berklee students who takes my private lessons so then see me 15-16 times! Sure, later they can ask anything!
