Ecuador is on the list for possible retirement destinations. My wife grew up in Ecuador---about an hour north of Guayaquil along the Daule River. I've been to Ecuador several times--to visit her family as well as when I was in the US Army in the early '90s (Lago Agrio--multiple trips, about 4 months total). The last time we were in Ecuador together we spent part of the time in her home town, in Guayaquil, and a few days in Salinas.

Wow what a beautiful house and that's only for $950 and of top of that in el centro. In most North American cities 1,200 minimum for 1 bedroom apartment. Good for you. I don't know why some people are very mean and critical about your choice of living in a luxurious house. I mean if you can afford it you go for it and enjoy you life. It doesn't matter if you want to sleep in one bedroom every night or even in the closet this you do it and if they want to pay 300$ a month they its their choice you respect their choice they should respect yours. The hell with them. You like to eat seafood everyday go for it...... anyhow nice video and I say enjoy your beautiful house enjoy life you deserve it. Cheers🍷🍷

That’s a bit of a complicated question, since there are so many small shops, and restaurants, all could be considered entrepreneurs. Due to Covid19 many are struggling, things are getting more normal, but the damage done to many is irreversible. Many restaurants and shops have closed for good, as well as many hotels and hostels. ☹️. Things will recover I’m sure, but for some the damage is permanent.

Thank you for the information, I'm working through the videos - I'm a little confused by the very high cost of groceries. If Ecuador is roughly 1/4 the cost of the US - does that mean a couple, in the US, are normally spending around $1700 a month on groceries alone? It mentions that all lunches and 15 dinners a month are in restaurants - So, $440+ per month for groceries is for the remaining breakfasts and 15 dinners and personal/cleaning items? To be honest if that the case I would probably eat out 24/7. I'm from the UK and our grocery bills are very close to your numbers in Ecuador. I don't really think we could spend $1200 per month purely on food monthly in Ecuador.

If you are staying long term in Ecuador you may want to get an Ecuadorian phone also. My T-mobile plan has 5 lines an auto pay discount and military discount, and I pay $163.00 or about $33 a line.
