  • BMR Grazing Corn - has brown midrib genetics and is typically an open pollenated corn. It is not any one specific cultivar, but more of a catch all name for corn, bred with more of an emphasis on forage quality than grain production. BMR grazing corn offers the opportunity to plant a warm season grass earlier in the spring, while soil temperatures are still much cooler, than what would be advisable for other warm season grasses. While corn seeding rate is normally described as kernels per acre, our seeding rate was 32 pounds per acre.
These plots were drill planted in 7.5-inch rows in a no-till seedbed on May 15, 2017 at the Noble Research Institute Headquarters Farm in Ardmore, Ok on a Heiden clay soil. Planting depth was about 1.5 inches, seed was placed on top of soil moisture and 2.33 inches of rain fell over the next three days. There was no fertilizer, insecticide, or herbicide applied to this crop. Rainfall was below average after establishment.
