I feel bad for this kid I just want to take him to disneyland or something
Lol
More like Disney world
I know the mom is just like "If he's smart he will make me rich" don't you think?
+Aimy Candy
His father: TALK TO ME WEN YOU DOCTOR!
+Not Potato lmao
Ryan will be the most remembered player on the show not because he won but because his mother is a lunatic.
True ryan must be stressed because of over thinking and abusing his body I mean I get it their more than average but they still need to rest like all animals do
Lucas Friedman he didn’t I had know idea
Fashia Mafonica you do realize most Asian parents are like
STUDY STUDY STUDY
ohsnap31 that’s extremely rude, she’s not a lunatic she just wants best for his son, sure she’s quite pushy but calling someone a lunatic just for that is an overstatement
That's totally normal,i support his mom .. cuz i will do the same things .
The poor violin teacher😂 he looked so stunned
A little late, but i'm pretty sure it's actually a viola.
snowblizzard47 omg I was the thousandth like!! Well done, the most I’ve had is seven haha
Aaron Zhu yep
Aaron Zhu no it’s a violin I play violin I’m sure I know how it sounds he was playing in the “g” strong so that’s why it’s low
😂😂😂😂😂
i feel sorry for ryan. His face tells everything, under pressure..
Nurul Hilalia google trans ya mbak?
笑花ENTERNITY emang salah dimananya?
You've never been to asian countries, students are commiting suicide over the pressure...
@@baduploadschedule1015 Nurul Halalia sounds like an Malay name that comes from South East Asia
I had a guitar on my bed right next to me and just started playing it
The violin teacher be like :" Dafuq u talking bout woman"
😂
Lol Im Dieng
..or "hey lady, work on your English first." jeezus.
the violin teacher is like "omg you already said a lot of questions!" and Ryan is like "omg mom you have too many questions"
The violin teacher: can u teach your kids by your self rather than talking to me...
Mom: practice practice practice ok I really don't push -.-
+caren chau i dont know about you but i would've loved my parents doing that for me, im siting here at 17 yo and i wastes most of my life "having fun" i would've lovd being born with some talent
+Robert Voimerestean I like having something in between. When I was like 6 my parents allowed my sisters to teach me up to geometry (high school geometry) for 7 hours every weekend. Although it pays off a bit, you really don't have much free time.
+Meep Meep idk, is quite hard to have a clear oppinion about it, i've never been in that situation.
Ryan is my middle name
ikr wtf??
"I really don't push" Did this lady just say she does not push Ryan!!!
+Alyssa Bryson No they just wanna "maximize" his potential. They are totally not pushing Ryan. What a load of bs...
We can say the same about child labor then, we just wanna maximize children's potential!
FVNT0M IIX lol
+Alyssa Bryson i understand what you mean. I had exactly the same reaction when his mom said that!!
+FVNT0M IIX I think they have to talk of another childern ....
😂😂 that's a lie she does push
I think the mom is CRAAZY, she never has enough, does she?
Oh, you haven't seen Asian parents. It's a lot more pressure than this, I assure you
chey my Asian parent isn't really strict I'm really glad
@Chey, WRONG !
His mom will never be happy with his results. And if Ryan really is perfect, he wouldn't be happy with himself. I'd rather lose happy than win so frikin scared to fail next. No one's perfect :3 no one has to be
Go to China and take a look at those parents! Its worse than Ryan's for sure.
But I guess thats why asians grow up to be successful business ppl. Like my piano teacher. Her dad kept pushing her, she used to hate him but now she goes to a prestigious art music sch and has her dad to thank.
All I kept thinking while watching this is
"My mom said the exact same thing"
I'm asian and I can 99.9999% relate Ryan's life
+PenguinChloe me too
+PenguinChloe Dude, same.
Same.
Same
+PenguinChloe Me too
Lmao that violin teacher's face tho XD it's like "uh ok?"
It was probably a viola.
Latoi Kelly Nope, it was a violin, it's in the caption
A little late, but i'm pretty sure it's actually a viola
I can tell from the pitch of the string
Aaron Zhu nope, it’s a violin piece. I’ve played it before
“Practice, practice, practice, practice”
My PTSD from playing an instrument as an Asian kid has been unlocked
@Raghu Ramamurthy And then my Indian parents never put me for anything until like the 5th month of me asking to be In an after school club
lol relatable
Ryan: *plays violin flawlessly*
Ryan’s mom: *tries to find something that Ryan did “wrong”*
Lmao his vibrato is to tight and his tone has to improve
@@amoggvenkat710 lol as a violist i laugh when people say he's playing perfectly none the less he is a incredibly smart child
@@lukeanatol5512 Ay lets go another fellow violisttt
@@amoggvenkat710 ew viola, but I agree. His playing was definitely not perfect and there’s no such thing as perfection in music.
She's just looking if there's anything her son needs to improve. She's not trying to find anything wrong, you can tell by her facial expression that she's proud of her son.
His mom is insane.
"Almost every single second of my life I have something scheduled." That's so awful. He's 12, give him time to relax. A love of learning is one thing, but pushing to the point where you're always exhausted is another.
After the episode, he got the highest score. His mom said there were other smart people, and he was just lucky
Jonathan Yap I'm aware of that, I've watched all of Child Genius. But slowly his scores start to decline, most likely due to the fact that his parents wouldn't stop pushing. The more they tell him he's a slacker or he's not working hard enough, the less he actually wanted to study. He's giving out faster because his parents are pushing so hard.
So true. I feel bad for this kid.
Sarah Holland Since you've watched Child Genius can you believe Tanishq got out so early???
Latoi Kelly Yes!!! I don't understand! He was in the top 3 pretty much every week and then he gets kicked out! It doesn't make any sense. He was the only college kid too. That really surprised me.
A child genius with asian parents. It doesn't get any tougher than that.
Eww Hong Kong 🇭🇰 noob
Todo Roki Who
@@raeve4104 how does having a chinese name means that they must be from HK? i have an english name but im not from the U.S.A-
He was prolly threatened into thinking faster
“no one remembers 2nd place” idk the girl who won first place in this competition but i will always remember ryan in 5th place.
@Lex EDWARDS he was a bragger and his parents were very condescending to other children
1:53
I feel like almost every child musician knows that moment when their mom tries to pretend to know music in front of the music teacher by using big words.
this brings back traumatic childhood memories...hope their parenting doesn't break his spirit :[
woozi they so
The child seems happy, but looks can be deceiving
We go to college together believe he turned out fine
@@tedvinnitchouk6790 really? Thats great then
I feel sorry for this kid. I think they are a little to hard on him.
To smart kid, it is not hard at all.
Nun Ya Haha. No seriously. I wish my parents did, but not this hard! Its like he has no time to have fun.
A little? Make that a lot!
"a little" is the understatement of the year :P Sad thing is he doesnt seem to be enjoying himself, unlike some other geniuses like Katherine and the others
Randale Ferguson little?
Ryan doesn't have a childhood :(
Uwu K.keira stfu
tf? That was two years ago
But its true, he doesnt have a childhood. He spent all of his life studying. It doesnt even look like he wants to study.
@Dramatic Dog YT ummm explain how that comment I wrote TWO years ago is offensive??
@Dramatic Gamer YT That's not rude. They felt bad for him 🤦♂️
"I'm not a tiger mummy"
riiigghhtt
Tsmfaker17 my mother tried being a helicopter parent. I simply ripped the camera off my wall, got a job as a tutor and lived with a friend for 3 weeks.
@@Wellness7000 Well that’s one way to deal with It-
Ryan's family should get a reality tv show. A lot of people would watch it, or at least I would.
As another Asian parent, I seriously question Ryan's parents' motivations. Did they challenge themselves as they pushed Ryan? All the people I know who pushed their kids this hard, they don't have a life of their own. BTW, no his life won't change just because some unpopular competition. The straight A student never became president, just a simple fact. She needs to work harder and study harder to understand some fundamental culture of this country.
His violin teacher is just looking at his mom like "uh huh ya I'll make sure of dat" but he's actually thinking like "poor kid having to be around this kinda woman 24/7😂"
HAHAHA
"Im not a tiger mummy"
"I don't push"
*then wtf are you doing ma'm*
Asian parents be like :
" YOU GOT ONE QUESTION WRONG?!??!?!??!?!?
" GO TO YOUR ROOM AND STUDY RIGHT NOW !!!!!!
pLeb but its true tho haha some Asian parents r very strict. my mom is sorta strict too
Holy cow ikr, i have a friend who's mom got him a private tutor because he only got an A- on a math test.
i'm pure asian and confirm that, even if you have high grades but as long as you'e not one of the best outstanding students, they will be dissapointed.
No asian parents dont act like that
They are strict they just tell you GO STUDY
Mystic it true though
The kid clearly doesn't like the competition. I reckon his parents forced him to do it:/ typical asians
Lin Lin Curry I complain when its unfair
I'm Asian and my parents are worse than this
Sometimes are kids of ae 9 not what it looks like and playing a roll. The 9 year old litle girl in the movie is a child you ever aspecy who and what she in reality is. Read the full description of this video. VIDEO Title (copy andd past the title in the search box) -
Jesse-Jane McParland - Leading Actress in Movie
Bill Thang I'm Asian and my parents are laid back...
I'm asian and my parents are exactly like this xD
I feel bad for him. His parents are putting way too much pressure on him, for a child his age. It's also going to teach him to have a sense of superiority with others, which might influence his relationships. Tbh he doesn't seem to enjoy all this competition very much, doesn't seem too happy. He might break one day from all of the pressure.
Ryan's mom: practice, practice, practice
2 seconds later
Also ryan's mom: I really don't push
This kids parents will drive a saint crazy. I just hope it doesn't come back to bite them in the butt. Nothing will ever be good enough for them.
For some reason I think she's living her childhood through him
I really don't push...
Ryan's mom is like so serious and look at her expression in the other videos
ANAHAHHAHHAHAHAHAHA I BURSED OUT SO FUNNY
OMG!!Ryan's mom said she really doesn't push. Joke of the year!!!!
God. When this boy fails in life which he will do one day, no one goes through life without failure, it's going to hit him hard!
i agree
Well maybe he won't fail lol
Failing as smart guy rather than an average is better because smart people can figure ways to get back up a lot faster than your normal dude, like Batman with his contingency plans. lel.
Exeter hit him hard
Ahmed Naufal, I know your comment was years ago but did you mean in Justice League Doom when he came up with contingency plans and the whole team was annoyed?
lol this is Ryan Higa jr :)
Lol best comment ever😂😂😂😂😂😂
:) xD thanks :)
hahah nice!
Yamin just cos he's Asian?? 🙄🙄
Jansen Baja -_- 😂 jokes
Well actually Adam Lambert came in second on American idol and everyone remembers him
Thank you everyone for your caring about Ryan and asking how he is doing. He is doing great and will graduate from Phillips Exeter Academy a NH boarding school and attend Yale University. Appreciate all your support.
sherry if you seriously love your son you also have to give him a small time period out of his day where he can relax and just be himself.
Stop pressuring him let him relax.... Jesus christ.. he needs to play, socialize and make friends
stop giving him so much pressure
I got so sad when he got eliminated! He was so smart! Well, that's what happens when you study in the toilet.
man, those parents are....intense
Look, he’s a very talented kid and I absolutely support his parents’ action for giving him all these extras....it’s only cause he can handle the pressure
“I don’t push him.”
*literally asks for more lessons and practice immediately*
I am sorry but why do I feel like his mother is a real type of Arima kouse's mother ? anyone ?
Omg, ikr! Perfection is everything!(If you know what I mean)
+Falling Bitterly yup ! it must be hard for him
Noura Ebrahim XD Gotta bring in some anime in
Noura Ebrahim XD why you gotta bring anime I to this but yeh I agree
Anime is life haha we should use it to make examples .. and yeah haha
“However I’m not a tiger mommy”
WTF
The stricter you are with children at this point in their lives the more they will rebel later on in their lives.
“I really don’t push” *continues to pressure her son nonstop*
as a teenager who has strict parents with hella high expectations, I feel like I can relate to Ryan. and if he feels what I feel then damn I feel bad for him because he probably has it worse. I always tell myself that if my child is super smart then obviously I would encourage him/her to work hard, study hard, do good in school, etc. but the key word there is ENCOURAGE, not FORCE , not CORNER AND PRESSURE. children who have very empowering parents that don't let them do anything they like but instead push them too hard are NOT going to have a fun childhood. and if their days as a youth are hard, exhausting, just bad in general then they are going to grow up with such a negative view of this world. to not grow up experiencing things you should (like hanging out with friends, chilling at home relaxing or whatever it is you want to do to get REST) is a serious handicap as an adult. that's what I think. I don't believe forcing your child to spend every waking moment of their day studying, practicing, etc to be healthy. i both applaud Ryan for his achievements and pity him for his tough life and schedule.
"You have to be self motivated." - goes on and pushes him to do all these things-
I feel a deep affection towards this boy. His intellectual capacity as well as his method of studying remind me of myself in 4th grade.
His mom talked like he was the teacher in the violin class
Go Ryan, you are awesome. Your parents need to take a lesson from you on keeping your cool! I was very disappointed to see that the mother or father did not say one positive thing to Ryan in this video or on the show....
He receives so much pressure from his parents...I couldn't imagine what's that like. Nontheless, he is still an exceptional, bright kid--a child genuis!!! Hold your head up Ryan, success is bound to come your way in the future.
This child has so much potential, and his hard work and determination is beyond his age . I was ahead of the game when I was his age as well , but the difference is that I didn’t have parents who put so much pressure on me . His mother is raising her expectations too high , and at such a young age I would consider that a form of abuse . He should go outside and play ; he’s a child . His parents are putting the weight of the world on his shoulders, and it will affect him for the rest of his life .
God bless that child his parents are pressuring him so much
TWOSET NEEDS TO SEE THIS
His mother was asking question after question and the violin teacher was like: what are you talking about?
Awwwwe Ryan is so small and cute he's still a little boy he needs to live every second of it learning things other than school subjects
He’s such a genius. But under so much pressure. I hope him the best.
I made Pi Runner years ago on a silly night, it was one of my first games... very cool to see it on TV, and cooler that people actually use it.
Note that the length of this video is 3.14...
1) you probably didn't make Pi Runner
2)The vid is actually 3:15
ryan : *has something skeduled every minute of his life*
me : *eating kit kat watching this video*
Lmao
Oh I see .... it's all about beating your opponents!
So good to see Ryan immune to his parents' exhortations and urging!
This is one resilient kid and I congratulate him on his ability to roll with the punches.
I really just wanna take Ryan to the water park, Disneyland,La,New York. Cause he is under too much pressure
Your family is lucky to have you! :)
Fast forward to present…Ryan is at Yale!! ( there is a YT video where grown up Ryan describes his journey to Yale)…wishing him more success!
Link?
This was just hilarious for me especially the "practice practice practice i really dont push" part 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
The violin teacher trying not to laugh is everything. He was like wtf lmao.
You have got to relax mom. What do you mean you don't really put pressure? Your kid is STILL a kid. And you will crack him. Stop it. Be supportive, but don't live vicariously through him. It's abusive.
@0.56 Dad, please quit believing this BS motivational mantra of "people never remembers No.2..blah..blah" because it's not true! One Direction came in 3rd or 2nd place of X Factor 2010 and I can't remember who won that year. Susan Boyle didn't win BGT and Brokeback Mountain lost the Oscar race in 2005 to Crash but which movies were pop culture phenomenon?
Cut the crap, Dad. And let your kid breathe from times to times.
Ik like second place is not TERRIBLE and at least be happy and don't favor the other kid IN FRONT OF RYANS FACE!!!
"second is the first to lose"
This is so funny since this is child genius video and you bring up 1 direction and stuff. Lol
lol that's asian
I can't imagine how much pressure this kid has to go through...
When his mom said: I don't really push". I was like pffttttttt, wtf r u talking about
My mom is Chinese and she is not anything like that 😂 She just tells me do what I want along as its legal
0:54 his dad is like people only remember number one, but Ryan didn't even get 4th place so he won't be remembered
That pie game, is a piece of cake!
Listening to Ryan’s parents talk: *bangs head on the wall so hard ; starting to see stars*
"I'm not a tiger mommy." *proceeds to ask teacher 14 questions on child* 🤣
He can't even have a proper meal without worrying about his future. It is good that Ryan's parents want to prepare him for years to come, and I genuinely hope that he loves what he's doing and his parents will stop once in a while to ask if this is what he wants.
they could care less about what he wants
He reminds me of this tv show I watch which is Boys over Flowers and Ryan is like Ji-Hoo. He plays violin like Ji-Hoo
i like how she says she really doesnt push even tho she said u have to keep practicing ... like chill with the practicing and give him a break
Maybe he just wants to relax and hang out with his friends like a normal person. He's not some kind of savior of humanity. Stop treating him like one.
Wait his parents let him have friends? I never knew
Dang, SO SMART!!!!!!!
My mom used to push me so much in my childhood about being the number one on everything that now that I'm almost 18 I have terrible anxiety and panic attacks every time I'm in front of some huge problem. I mean, it gave results and I appreciate that but it really brings big disappointments when you fail in something because you were not taught to lose. I hope he gets to do what he wants to do when he's big enough to make his own decisions
Same as my mom, This is how i get straight A+ BELEIVE IN YOURSELF
He should have a break. He's 12!! He's already finished 3 grades above math and that's pretty freakin amazing. I think he is smart enough. He should just have free time to do whatever. He should still work hard but have free time as well.
I feel so bad for them.. They always have sonething to do.. Its like they never been kids
Ryan and Alan: Name a more comedic sibling duo, I’ll wait
so proud of these 2 kids!!
I feel so intellectual. I spelled intellectual correctly, and got 88 on Pi Runner.
Joe Hordely Intillechtkuel*
I got 161 on pi runner get wrecked
Cool
Too bad to see him go
This is relatable on a whole other scale.
I just hope he doesn't lose his will to learn. Cause I know how stress and expectation make you go downhill.
She wants him to be president... BOI😂
Totally not a tiger mommy... "Practice practice practice"... Bruh
Alan is just casually holding a trophy and looking at the camera
Ryan you ain't alone, I can relate to everything your mum say
1:12
*cries in normal person*
Yeah right you're not a tiger mommy.
I felt the pressure from his mom.
I laughed out loud when the mom says, “I don’t push.” Poor kid
During the violin part where the mom asks the questions is the day in the life of a asian aka me
I'm doing algebra 1 in 8th grade...
same but it's a 9th grade course so that's good
Same here and I still don't get some of it lol
I'm doing algebra 1 in the 7th grade
makes you feel any better, most adults past 30 years old, forgot how to do algebra 1.
I'm in 9th grade and failing it
His mom is pushing him so much! He is already smarter then a lot of people
His mom thinks everything about him must be perfect literally perfect
