    Thanks for another great review and especially for selecting the diesel model and highlighting the fact that the the diesel option is still a worthy one for some!

    Mark, Great review. Disclaimer! As it obvious i am a self confessed BMW 'fan'. And BMW have done a superb job with this premier 'compact' SUV. The design language is bang on! Ultra modern and 'minimalist'. The rear 3D is something BMW will roll out in future models. Certainly a massive step forward from the retired 'professionals' choice of the previous X1. [Missed the target somehow.] Add into that the unrivalled BMW quality in terms of build and materials. Expensive but clearly illustrates the gap behind the Korean brands and BMW. Thanks again. Superb 'real' review'.

    Great review as ever Nobby and great to hear a diesel getting a review tho' having said that even at it's cheapest version it's still way too expensive though BMWs are and as for the 20" wheels well on wheels that size with tyres that look like rubber bands it's no surprise that it's firm. It's not that nice to look at from the outside either certainly from the front. From the rear it's not as bad. I'm certainly sticking with diesel for the time being and sticking with my own diesel because with it I don't have to bother with adblue which with most of the diesels after mine do use. As for BMW drivers not using their indicators the switch has nothing to do with it and everything to do with them not using their indicators as they're implied! 😂😂

    We are about to order an x-line 18d with 19" wheels (hoping for comfort), but there are none available to test drive.
    Only thing that worries us is reports of random hesitation when pulling away from being stopped.

    I think the lack of heat from the auxiliary heating is due to emission rules in Europe. I was also disappointed when I tried it on my M135i.

    Didn't feel the package for heads-up display and 360 cameras was worth the extra, but curiously for the odd longer trip one can PAYG for some features (i.e adaptive cruise, heated steering wheel). Not sure how I feel about subscribing to those given they're installed.

    • @NobbyOnCars
      @NobbyOnCars  Před rokem +2

      Yeah it’s a weird one, hard to know how it will work out but if heated seats are only used in winter for example, maybe it works out cheaper.

    • @ardy0702
      @ardy0702 Před rokem

      @@NobbyOnCars Funny enough it has those, but steering wheel is marked as "preparation for" in the equipment list.
      I wonder what the real world range will be given its 64kwh battery. Similar to a Kona but doubt it's as efficient. Bigger / heavier too. Some owner videos from the likes of Austria / Sweden would see the winter range ~300.

      Absolute joke having to pay as you go for that type of technology. Just another (and highly blatant) way of ripping people off. If manufacturers care about safety as they claim, include it in the initial cost and leave it at that. And include it and the lowest possible profit margin.

    • @terrydelahunt842
      @terrydelahunt842 Před rokem +1

      @@NobbyOnCars you can guarantee it wont be cheaper over the life of the car.

    • @ardy0702
      @ardy0702 Před rokem

      @@terrydelahunt842 yeah, it’s a tricky one. The monthly payment of the PCP changes significantly if you tick the option box including some of these features - not available individually. Yet the physical hardware is installed regardless. If I had any intention of owning the vehicle I’d rather pay upfront, but given as something like heated steering wheel would only be used couple of months a year it’s palatable as a subscription for that period. I’ll likely change the car for something else in 18 months so the cost of the options didn’t make sense. I’m personally only interested in the adaptive cruise - the included HUD and other costly options in that package I couldn’t care less for.

    Remember when BMW made elegant cars , the E39 5 , almost delicate E30 , amongst many . Now they make grotesque monstrosities like this . BMW made the best instruments and switchgear in the business, compare . I have driven the new 5 series and old 5’s , old better in every way . Total agreement on diesel.

  • @teddym2808

    I wonder why they have cheaped out on cup holders in new models, some other car brands doing the same, making them at best unwieldly in the front and all but useless in the back. They used to have beautiful adaptive cup holders and yes this does matter on long trips when you have multiple passengers having multiple drinks in the car. I mean of all the things to save money on, it's pretty pathetic. The other thing I have noticed is a LOT of cars losing gas struts on the bonnet and back to the old stick system - thankfully BMW haven't done that but just the things car makers are saving money on now with the continuing BS excuses (chip shortage, Covid, Ukraine, it never ends), BUT they are constantly raising prices LOL.

      Totally can’t agree with you! I think it looks fantastic! New design for the grille but didn’t lost their traditional spirit, less buttons easier to clean.
