    I'd get in touch with J Diction and start asking questions, Claire. It could be product itself, or it could be something used in the making of those particular candle molds, or you could be fine if you use distilled water rather than tap water. They may already be aware of this and have some answers for you.

    It looks like something in the resincrete reacted both with the dye and the air so I'd guess some sort of oxidation. As it's the same colour the next day I think whatever caused the reaction evaporated quickly. It's a stunning effect either way!

  • @WizardKitty723
    @WizardKitty723 Před rokem +11

    My guess about the color change- the resincrete heated up and denatured/ broke/altered the pigment which is fine in the other because it doesn’t get hot. I bet you wouldn’t have this color change with a resin pigment and resincrete. Notice how the bottom of the resincrete (while in the mold) was the part where there was more color change, which was probably the hottest during curing.

  • @sandysanders4199
    @sandysanders4199 Před rokem +4

    My best guess is there is green pigment in the latte as well as a light beige, and the green pigment is heavier so it sank to the bottom. The viscosity of the Jesmonite being thicker, probably prevents the green portion of the pigment from sinking.

      @ClairesCraftyCorner  Před rokem

      Heyyyyy Sandy ... yes this is exactly what I'm thinking now after reading everyone's comments. It might be worth waiting for the resin crete to thicken .. but that's a dangerous short window 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Popping on real quick cos I couldn’t wait to see. LOL My daughter pointed out that since ResinCrete is made different from Jesmonite, that maybe a chemical in the ResinCrete broke down the latte pigment, therefore pulling a green element, or reacted with something in the pigment, that can’t be seen with the human eye. Maybe that’s why when you added even more latte that it got even darker. Just a guess. 🤔 For whatever reason, it is a happy accident. Claire, they all are stunning! Absolutely stunning. 😁👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️

    Great video - thank you. I love a good conundrum! I've never used resin crete ( or anything similar) but logically, if it was a straight reaction between the resin crete and the pigment, surely the whole lot would have changed colour? So I figure there must be another element happening at the bottom of the mould - heat? This would drive me crazy 🙃I would need to experiment with different depths of mould until I found the point at which I got a colour change, then I would try all the other colours. After which I would expect an award for being a genius!! Or, at least, a beer😂

      I think it has to be with the heavier particles sinking to the bottom because it happened to me with a oval tray mold.
      But now I want to make an experience too to know if you put it in the fridge after pouring does it make a difference? 😂

    It's most likely the JDiction batch that you got. I bought some pigments on Amazon about a year ago and they turned yellow after I cured them (every single one of them). Called Amazon and they reimbursed me but they couldn't explain it. So I called the company itself and was told that the one I received was part of a batch that was bad. So I'd call JDiction and ask them.

    Colour change - I've heard someone mention about the pigments we put into eco resin that sometimes a particular colour of the mix will come out due to the temperature as it is set. So each pigment colour we buy is made up of a mix of certain colours and that latte colour must have a green tone in it, but given the fact that jesmonite didn't change the colour, it makes me think it is a reaction of the new product with the air. it would have been interesting to see what happened if you'd tried to do the tray in latte and if that volume of the tray would have changed colour

    I used the ResinCrete to make shell trinket trays in different colors and had similar problem. after demold during drying the colors started to change. the biggest change I saw was with acrylic paint and pigments the I got for Concrete and Jesmonite. Yes I used to work years ago with something similar to resincrete from the Warhammer figurine's world.
    The chimical reaction is longer than with jesmonite and it's reacting funny with some pigments.
    I don't know why, but it's like an oxydation with the heavier particules (metallic I suspects) that's why it's always on the bottom in the molds

  • @fairyspunfibers9098
    @fairyspunfibers9098 Před rokem

    Wow. That's...freaky, Claire! I'd be going bananas, too. Okay, I have to assume it's the pigments, themselves? Possibly? As a former fiber dyer, we find out very, very quickly that browns and purples can "break" and turn strange or even hideous colors. Browns can break into greens, oranges, and/or greys (or whatever is used to make that brown). Purples can break into orange, mud, funky taupes, grey, etc..., also depending in which colours were used to make it.
    a) So...could be a chem reaction between the dyes and Resin Crete.
    b) If Resin Crete gets hot (?), could be a thermic reaction.
    c) Least likely, could be a reaction between the dyes and the particular silicone used to make the molds.

    ...hmmm...it's hard to discern colors on my tablet, but when you were mixing in the latte coloring, it appeared to have a green component...
    The candle holders setup while upside down...it's possible that the green component settled at the bottom (which would be the top when unmolded). However, air and humidity could not reach those areas while hardening...but I believe the reaction was due to the exposure to the air, humidity and whatever else that may have been in the atmosphere at the time.
    The darker green in the one with more latte coloring would somewhat support this theory...and yes, I believe the type of coloring you used affected the way it mixed, and separated, within the Resin Crete...
    Beautiful pieces though...👍
    Matt

    I wonder what effect you might have if you use a different colour instead of Latte? Maybe use a different light colour & a different dark colour in with the Resincrete. If the colours stay the same then it could be a combination of the ingredients in Resincrete & the Latte colour that causes a reaction. If it happens again but with different colours it could be a combination an ingredient in all the colours reacting with the Resincrete. But it is interesting that the tray did not change colour.

    There was an exothermic reaction with the resin-Crete and the pigments which changed the structure of the pigment causing them to not only change color, but darken as well… the exothermic reaction is similar to the flash cure you get with regular two-part epoxy resin when you pour in too deep of a mold…

    The fact that it is changing after demould is some kind of oxidizing action to components of the pigment to the resincrete given that you said adding more pigment made the effect darker. Wondering if other pigments in the resincrete would also oxidize.?🤔🤷 is it the Pigments or the Resincrete. If other brand pigments do the same in the resincrete, I'd say the issue is with the chemical process of the resincrete.

      Yes this makes sense .. I would say uts 100% not the pigments.. I've been using them months now they're totally perfect for jesmonite and actually worked really well in Resincrete also. Until this 🤣🤣🤣

    Firstly.. Gorgeous outcome albeit a conundrum. I am not a scientist nor am I a resin pro but most brown pigments are created using green and red so I am thinking that something in the products reacted strangely and canceled out the red in the warmest part of your mold. An accident yes but a happy one for sure as it is fabulous! 💕

    That is so bizarre! It only happened with the latte though not the green. So weird!

    Ooh I love these moulds Claire, especially the tealight mould. I don’t use that casting compound but I use Aqua Cast and I’m guessing they are very similar (by the way there is an online calculator on the aqua cast page which works out how much powder and water you need, the ratios are almost the same so it’s worth a try) I once tried colouring Jesmonite with some powdered dye but I can’t remember what it is called, anyway the colours looked amazing but shortly afterwards the colours leached out and also changed colour like yours. I know I was using different pigment to you but as the result was the same I thought I would mention it - some sort of compatibility issue for sure.

    Just love this and what happened is amazing it gives is a very cool look that noone else will get lol I have used Res2O (which is the same as resincrete used the same pigments as you in a large deep mould and they were fine so really dont know why it changed xxx

    Maybe the water and then air reaction
    Funny that the exposed bottom hadn’t turned.
    Please post if you get the answer

    It looks like pure copper is being oxidized by a chemical reaction. I mixed brass powder with acrylic floor polish once to make a glittery paint and it partly turned green.

      I don't know if they make a mold for one, but an old diver's helmet would be cool with the corroded brass look.

    Claire, the color change is at the top of the pieces... almost like the light is making it change. Does it change of you place them upside down? Could be a UV reaction.

      Heyyyyy Billy ... they haven't changed since. I think the overwhelming view has been regarding viscosity... resin crete is like water. Jesminite is thick. So I guess in resin crete it's possible the pigment separated ? It's a logical explanation but was a crazy discovery. Still, it didn't happen with the tray

    I actually love how the tea light holders turned out. But, it is strange 😬. I hope J-Diction has a lot of colors that won't change. 😊

  • @Trueo9re
    @Trueo9re Před rokem

    I think it's just the resincrete reacting with the dye. I've seen this happen on moulds that are containers like jars or pen/plant pots. I've not seen it happen on shallow moulds, where the resincrete has more drying surface like the tray. Why it's green...no clue. Maybe make the latte one in the tray and see if it stays latte.

    Did you use tap water? Could it be a chemical (like chlorine) in the water reacting with the resincrete and the color? If you did use tap water, maybe try again with distilled water?

    It looks like the green pigment settled to the bottom as the resin Crete was so watery.

  • @Aegopodium

    This is really weird. But beautiful. Have you tried leaving the ResinCrete inside the mold for longer? I suspect that you need Oxygen for it to turn colours. i would love to know if I'm right....

    Resincrete now comes with it's own color products. When SteveMcDonald used them he did note the colors get darker as the Resincrete dried so maybe that is what happened. Could also be more of the color settled to the bottom part of the mold (which became the top) and as it dried it showed up darker. Resincrete is difficult to color with normal resin pigments this is why JDiction came out with colors for it. I would experiment and use less pigment and see what happens.

  • @danaparsonsliquidcosmosart2669

    Somethin in the resincrete is reacting with something in the latte pigment

    Perhaps it's the water, water has minerals and other additives like chlorine. Try distilled water and let us know if that works?

    maybe the mould (light holders) were quite deep so maybe the heat caused condensation and reacted with the colours 🤔
