WHOOOOO!!! So hyped for this! Thanks so much for the collab. 🙏🥁Time to get those hands movin!
Probably the best drumline they have had, they were soo clean oml
Go watch 2009. From a 2012-2013 vet.
They’ve always been really good just pretty under rated for a long time
@@christianstainazfischer I think it's because they're brass line is so good, nobody ever thinks about they're drumline, or pit.
@@itwasbetterwithhats820 which ones were these
And their heights were godlike
The last minute and a half might be one of the most bada** moments in DCI history

Best book of 2019, hands down
5:49
“Finger roll... only if you want to”
Parker Jones Omg is this the Parker Jones
Nice bro I always appreciate your time And effort put into these with your team
At jevonty9 6 Appreciate the support, and thanks for watching!
That "East Coast" at 8:07 is gangster as fuck
FINALLY SOMEONE THAT DOES THE BASS PART TOO OML BLESS ITS ALWAYS ONLY SNARE AND QUAD MUSIC 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Punish the drum 😂 4:46
This is one of the best drumline scores in DCI memory for me.
thumb roll, but only if you want to.
I didn’t realize I was watching this in 2x speed. Thought they were some kinda of extra terrestrial drummers
I absolutely love the 6 bass, it allows that really low punch as well as a very very high and tight bass, which is harder to achieve with 5 basses
I actually love you for this, like, wanna get a drink some time?
You’re actually amazing
This is straight heat 🔥 😤 🤧
Thumbed up before the vid even started. ...and then DAMN
YESS!!! thanks so much for this!
Jackson Arnold Thanks for watching!
Dude if you could transcribe the blue devil's 2016 tenor and snare performance, I would literally marry you.
You guys are absolutely amazing for doing this. Thank you :)
Jordan Olivarez Thanks for watching and for the kind words!
Jordan Olivarez try out for Crown instead of Boston? 😏
Swimmingandy6 How do you know about Boston?
Very sharp snare tuning. Really like it.
It’s because of you guys that i have become a much better player over this past year. Thank you!
This makes it so much easier to learn
LETS GOOOOOO!!!!!
The banana man at 6:00 tho
Lmaooo
thank god im not the only one that saw that lmao
Another Hannum masterpiece!!!
One of the most creative books ever written!
This book is so much fun to listen to!
I just noticed the way the snare split mimics the tones from the quads during the phrase during 4:26 to 4:30 -- nice little subtlety there. Love it.
CAROLINA CROWN BOI!!!!!!
Me 1 year later: 😌
what a banger book
I can’t get over how hard that closer is and they don’t even flinch.
ugh ❤
Cant wait for bd
Wow that’s a crazy book
Nice!!! You should do their last years show since there arent many good drum transcriptions out there for it
It feels like Rhythm Heaven, oh my God...
It’s amazing!
That book is *meaty*
U should do sparkman indoor percussion I’m apart of it my senior year that would be a dream come true
you should really make a crossmen 2019 learn the beats video
This writing is insane.
Bluecoats tenor and bass parts next ??? Keep up the amazing work bro
8:39 had a little quote from the '12 closing book. yum
What’s with the guy in the banana suit? Bridgemen folded years ago! 😂
The detail of the pattern is movement.
There is a mistake on Measure 89, Bass 1 also plays 32nd notes instead of 2 16ths
i wanna see phantom, theyre underrated
It baffles me how people are able to transcribe this so well
“They’re playing open flams, WHAT”
Where?
Sam Tannen That’s not very specific
Angelic Melody directly after the last beat of the opener
Angelic Melody 1:13
You have Blue Stars by chance??
123, 223, 323, H...
People saying this shit isn’t hard never made it past a callback camp.
are we just going to ignore the guy in the banana suit at 5:42
Can you please do either a 2013 or 2014 Carolina crown learn the beats???
I'm sorry but if I got contacted to Crown and they handed me the opener and it was THAT, i would have to turn it down. Like jesus christ....
ZycloneBeasT explain?
lol bro practice, ain't hard if you get used to playing it
You wouldn’t get contracted in the first place with that attitude 😂
Can u do blue coats next
4:56 Sup Girl!
Bar 26 is a tap 16th note roll
“Ah ah Mack Mode”
does anyone know if there’s a specific name for that rudiment in bar 18? i know it’s swiss army triplets with double stops instead of flams but does that have a name or is it just weird like that?
neeevans Cheese-dog McGridlies
We called them Blisses
The book seemed much different in the earlier season? Or is that just me?
So, those rhythms that have the 4 above a group of 4 notes that are barred like 16th notes yet take up 3 counts of space. What are those? And how do they work? Just never seen it before.
The ones written like 8th notes should be the ones taking up 3 beats, while the 16th notes take up 1.5 beats. The ones written like "eight notes" signify a dotted 8th note space, so the notes would fall on 1, the a of 1, the + of 2, and the e of three.
Because 16th notes are just 8th notes but double the speed, the leading hand of the 4let 16ths would play the aforementioned rhythm above while the trailing hand would fall in between them.
A solid understanding of 16note timing is all you really need to get them. It looks a little more strange on paper than it actually is
It's called a tuplet. You've likely seen them before,,, as their used regularly to indicate all types of triplets. What's shown above is the most commonly used shorthand version. The unabridged notation makes use of a ratio written above or connecting the brackets. The unabridged version of 1/8 note triplets would use 3:2 above the bracket. (3, 1/8 notes played in the same amount of time as 2, 1/8 notes). The unabridged version of rhythms you're referring to above would use 4:6 (4, 1/8 notes played in the same amount of time as 6, 1/8 notes).
This was very good but from the top to mvt 2 it sounded monotone
Awesome man, now do Blue Devs! 😈
They’re on the way!
LearnTheBeats That's what I like to hear, keep up the good work 💪🏻
Can u do old dci shows?

I think the movement 2 feature (3:30) was kinda underwhelming
But outside of that this book is pretty good
Am I dumb or in measure 38 (right at 1:09 is two before) is beats one and two switched from what theyre playing? In other words what's written is [1-e-&-a-trip-po-let] and what they play is [trip-po-let-2-e-&-a]
That is your ear. Listen to it again, it is the famous slowing down of a measure. Going from sixteenth notes to triplets. ].
ItsToxicDemon I mean it almost sounds like their just playing a 7:4 poly there, like even spaced throughout
Is there a ritard there that’s just not printed?
ItsToxicDemon oh you know what I get what you’re saying now, the measure before is entirely tripletized so it sounds weird coming out of it, thanks for pointing that out
Connor Gavin yup. This book makes use of triplet rhythms and I absolutely love it.
ItsToxicDemon not only triplet rhythms but modulating between that and duple rhythms and I love that as well
I'm pretty sure I just came
7:26
So what's next?
I know that you mean...
@@decisivedecision Mean what?
The tall guy from 2018 bluecoats is in here , even though he disappeared last season , ( tall blonde snare with head band )
6:4 to 2:4 to 4:4 to 7:4 like wtf brooo ahhhh
The beginning of the closer with the snare looks like the incorrect music.
Ziel Which part?
It's probably because of the ghost notes. It looks correct to me
5:32 logic
look at quads (the score)
panda 545 blah ipfpvy like 3years let me know if there is
the music isn’t insanely difficult, but all the marching and visuals must be insane to perfect
4:46
They should put user names with upvotes and downvotes so we can see the people downvoting :). I don't think the people downvoting are percussionists.
that would be invasion of privacy and an unwritten license to bad mouth someone's opinion.....like yours.
@@ikarooz ??????
So wait, what the hell is going on with those groupings of 4 around measure 16? They fill 3 beats, so this should be a 4:3 quarter note base tuplet, but the way it's written, it only fills two quarter notes worth of beats, so what's going on here?
I know this is two years late, but I figure people might be interested. Sibelius, or at least the version of Sibelius I use, has an interesting quirk (flaw) where if you hit Ctrl-4 to make a fourlet, you by default get a 4:6 instead of a 4:3. I don't know why this is, but you have to go out of your way to get a proper 4:3 fourlet and many people don't bother. If you ever see a fourlet in which the rhythmic subdivision is half of what would make sense (e.g. eighth notes instead of quarters here), this is the most likely explanation
@@evariste35342 years late or not I really appreciate finally getting an answer on this haha
Uhmm no it fills 3 quarter notes. The measure is in 6/4 and those take up half the measure.
Shoulda been 3rd🤷🏼♂️
I agree
I'd go as far to say second
@@hardimonaddictyt9976 ye
I don't really like the spock tuning that much
You should listen to how it compliments the brass solos in the one percussion feature. Worth it. Sometimes it’s the little things
So we just going to ignore the fact the drum caption head looks like Mr. Clean?
what does cmfc mean exactly? 🤨
Carolina Mother Fuckin Crown
Anyone know the vocal at G? (1:43)
Mad mode. Might be Mag Mode
MacMode
Why do they go 189 not 190 for idk reasons
Cyrix 189 is the speed of the dotted eight note at 126. You could play the entire first section of the piece with a 126 click. The rhythms would just be a bit different on paper, though it would be the same hand speeds.
LearnTheBeats ah I see awesome! No way I could ever play this though, still just a sophomore in HS
Cyrix Take it slow (with a Met), pay attention to the details, and most importantly use your ears! All it takes is hard work and determination 👍🏻
189/126 = 6/4 = 1.5. It makes it take up the exact same amount of time between the 4/4 bars and the 6/4 bars
@@LearnTheBeats so they wrote the entire drum part in 6/4 while the brass was in 4/4. Thats insane

Intro / outro of video music?
Warm Water - by Underbelly
Must be scary for BAC. Walking behind them as they destroy the drums
So that's the haircut that guy went with?
This was so nasty I threw up.
Yuck too any notes, not enough groove. Fun to watch and great execution though
groove isnt really the intention for DCI music
@@positive.juice.apartment obviously. And I'm not saying everything has to groove, but when everything is just a string of busy/fast notes, it can turn into white noise #staticblur #staticblah
Simple....not impressive. But clean I guess.
?
I used to think this to a certain degree, but now after playing to recordings of myself/ experience etc. I can confidently say these guys are mega skilled.
Philosophical tangent, not directed at anybody, but fun for random commenters to find: but its important to remember that music is subjective, so when I expected to wowed away by videos like these, it just doesnt happen anymore. The general moral of the story may be to listen to drumlines sporadically, have fewer expectations, and just see it as is... a group of PERSONS (note the human-minded emphasis) spending an absurd amount of time on a niche activity. My goal is to spend way less time watching dci and more time practicing
