Looking to travel Spain or learn more about the region? Watch our video and learn the top ten cities to visit- from day trips to week long visits- and the can't miss attractions in those cities.
Spain is an amazing country with a wide diversity of regions, people, landscapes, weather... but they are all great in their own ways and I fully recommend you see as much of Spain as you can. Here are our top ten cities to visit in Spain, which include more than Barcelona and Madrid, such as Valencia, "The city of arts and sciences," and Salamanca, a university town with a good luck frog hidden in the carvings. For your convenience, all of these are cities that are relatively easy for tourists to reach whether through flights, trains, or buses.

I don't like at all what you said about make day trips and return in the evening to Madrid from Toledo or to Sevilla from Córdoba. One of the problems that those cities have is, that they receive a lot of tourist but they don't have great incomes in hotels and they really need them. So please, promote that people stay at least one night in each city to enjoy the night life there and the beautiful illuminated monuments.

Glad you included Valencia as it is often overlooked. It has great places to visit but with fewer tourists than Madrid, Barcelona or Seville and of course Valencia is THE place to eat paella. Best time to visit is March for Las Fallas festival.

I've visited Barcelona and Costa Brava for a few times, and more recently ,Madrid and Valencia. I have to say that all these places are, indeed, beautiful, but what impressed me the most were actually the people in Valencia... (I just came back from there). The most genuinely friendly, nice people I ever seen in my life! I'm an experienced world traveler, I've been pretty much everywhere in Europe, and also in the US and Asia, but I was never so impressed with people's kindness, like the "Valencianos'". Love it there! P.S - In a perfect antithesis was Poland/the Polish people:(

Me, like spanish recommend all people around the world to visit the not popular spanish places, wich they are also so cool. I´m talking about Cádiz beaches (Chiclana,Tarifa,Sotogrande,Rota,Chipiona,Barbate...) I also recommend the city of San Sebastián in the North, is one of the most beautiful cities. You can also visit The Cíes Islands on Galicia, (virgin islands) and of course the little islands in Canarias and Baleares. Other cities: Cuenca,Girona,Salamanca,Granada,Mérida,Gijón and Cádiz.

  • @DiegoLopez-np7bz

But there's a little bit of a problem in spain when you pick a top 10 cities or something like that. Because of its turbulent history, mostly every city has had diferent levels of importance during the ages and so most of the cities have a lot of monuments and interesting stuff to see and you could make a case for mostly each one of them.
I aprove this list tho, you've done a good job, but there must be some honorable mentions for me like A coruña with the torre de hercules, a 300ft tall roman lighthouse which is over 1800 years old, Segovia is an awesome little city with lots of stuff to see, Burgos with one of the best cathedrals IN THE ENTIRE WORLD and lots of lovely spots fron medieval times and finally Gijon, not just because of the city, which is nice too, but because it serves as a base for tourists to visit Asturias, one of the most interesting regions in all of spain.

Wow, what a difference 12 years makes in video quality (although if YT is anything like FB and IG, they sneakily downgrade the quality of your uploads over time)!
I was living in BCN when this video was recorded! I'm so glad Toledo is on this list, too! I think it's looked over, thanks to bigger cities, but one of my favorites, and suchhhh an amazing place!! I can never get enough time there!
I was just in Granada, Barcelona, Madrid, and Valencia two weeks ago!!
I finally went to San Sebastian last year, and saw the Conch! Lol, and nail on the head, "nobody knows where the language came from"... it's so different from anything around, they say it came from aliens.
Galicia, Salamanca, and the islands of Spain are the only parts I haven't been to yet. I really hope to go to Salamanca in the winter and see snow while I'm there.

Nah, Marbella is nice but a bit far off from Malaga, frequent...ish buses but take 1:30 to 2 hours. The one I recommend is Mijas, a Pueblo Blanco a bit from Fuengirola, from Malaga get the C-1 Cercanias train to Benalmadena, then the 121 bus.

Psrc Guell was intended by Gaudí to a planned community of mixed use space (Gaudi was 100 yrs ahead of his time with the idea of mixed use space), the arcade (covered promenaded area)was supposed to be like an open aired market place. All of the cities on his list, with the exception of Santiago de Campostela, San Sebastian and Salamenca . my mom and I went to when we did a tour of Spain in 2008. The royal family actually doesn't live in the Palacio Real, Zarzuela Palace just outside of Madrid. Palacio Real is used for state events.

House that overcomes the shadows i disagree completely. Malaga is beautiful. Malaga is historic. Malaga is in the middle of festival de malaga. Malaga is varied and has too much to see and do. I stay in El Palo, an authentic residential area. The people are lovely. The art is everywhere. El palo - Malaga 30 min walk. Walked 30 miles up the coast. Walked from Terremolinios to malaga at night. On my own. Been most places on my own. Out and in malaga central. Food. Music. Vistas. What are you on? Not inspiring? Please.

there better sights in Latin America 10 times better than Malaga; Cartagena de Indias, San juan, Bogota, Cusco, Guatemala, Recife, Ouro Preto, Mexico, Quito, Santo Domingo. the thing Europe has over-adversiting dont mean that have the most number of historic and inspiring sites in ALL places (for small than can be) of Europe, thats not true, Latin America have a HUGE important Spanish (European) colonial sites mixed with own tradition, music and also Indigenous heritage

"The Basque country is different". In fact it's not really very different from its surroundings. From northern Spain: northern Castille ,Cantabria, Asturias...
However, since those provinces are less known by tourists, (and less populated than the Basque Country) they are usually forgotten.
The Basque Country is amazing. You've got Sebastián/(Donosti in basque), Bilbao, Guernika and some other wonderful places but if you have enough time go check Cantabria and Asturias, cool 'provinces' too.

Jean Liu And just for that is the best?...,maybe you don't know but Barcelona is the Spanish city with more bullfighting arenas in the world (3 in total) Madrid only have one an Seville, Malaga,Pamplona,Bilbao,etc......too ,Bullfighting is something very very minoritarian and very few people still go to corridas in Spain,France,Portugal and some south American countries, what happened in Catalonia with the bullfighting was just a stupid propagandist political move from the nationalistic side to erase any tradition considered by them Spanish, very stupid and simplistic because (as i said before) Catalonia always was the region of Spain with more followers and aficionados to the bullfighting.
Obviously you have not idea about how many towns and villages around Catalonia still have festivities involving bulls and not particularly friendly with the bulls any of them, but ofcourse you don't know, you're just a silly tourist wich want to be more papist than the pope.
Here you have some "friendly festivities" in Catalonia involving bulls.

Me gusta como no pusiste Madrid. Es un pueblucho grande y sucio. Has visto el suelo de un bar? Que gente más cochina. Jajaja.

How can a place be great if it is filled with pick-pockets? Barcelona is over-rated, just like Madrid.

A lot of Spanish people do not like it at all. I'd say anyone under 50 yo will despise it. I do not recommend it either.

El camino de santiago is must. You don't have to be religious. I think most people I met were there for the experience itself.

Skip piece of shit spain, go to mexico instead, they are much more diverse and cheap. I still would visit cataluña, to show some support!
