Just a heads up, I cut metal hangers constantly. I am a mechanic and metal hangers can be extremely useful for fishing wires through holes, pushing gunk out of channels, pulling wires though pass throughs and holding things up like calipers and such. Mind you I have never used my weatherman for that but it is something I do constantly. Metal hangers can be very useful.

Love this!!! Practical uses for cutting a metal hanger. Thank you!!! I’ve been so confused as to why people were cutting metal hangers.

Takes a lot of guts to mod a expensive multi-tool, good job. Never liked leatherman 2-d bits , too soft and hard to purchase replacements even from Leatherman home site

Very helpful video about the modding process. The background noise was very distracting though - for a while I couldn't figure out how my dogs had gotten a squeaky toy. Maybe use an on-body mic if in a noisy environment?

    • @EDCQ

Thank you and thank you for the recommendation. I never film inside because of the noise, wasn’t going to mod outside tho so … I do have an on-body mic and didn’t even think of using it. Next time for sure!

The whole point of Leatherman's 2D bits lies in the possibility of carrying up to 40 screwdriver profiles with the Leatherman multi-tools equipped with the bit driver and in a minimum of space. Obviously, this would not be possible with 3D bits, even with double heads. These 2D bits are very durable, strong enough for working with a multi-tool. So I don't see the point in removing the Leatherman bit driver. If you are in your workshop and you have a collection of 1/4" bits then I don't see the point of using a multi-tool compared to a screwdriver or a bit holder screwdriver.. Let's not forget what deep EDC is all about, maximum possibilities in minimal space and weight. However, thank you for your demonstration.

Excellent points for sure! The 2D bit driver and bit kit are excellent at what they do and definitely serve a purpose. For some reason I much prefer using a 3D bit. I can carry a descent set up for 10-20 buts in my bag and handle most anything I need when out and about.
This is definitely not for everyone. Perhaps not even for most people a good option. But it’s definitely for me.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! I really appreciate it!

I imagine it's easier in the US but in Europe is not that easy to find these 2D bit, there are always out of stock and you can forget to find anything in a general hardware store.
I don't think I need it but that a interesting option for people outside of US having an intense usage of this kind of part.

I'm hearing the 2D bits are kind of soft. If so I wish they would make a much stronger version of the Leatherman bits.
I know these EDC multi tools aren't meant for super heavy duty, just for on the fly fixes.

Leatherman’s 2D insert bits are really kinda trash. Their extension is the best feature with them 😆
And those aren’t allen/hex. Those are Torx. The fun part is many times you can make Torx work in an allen socket but not usually vice versa.

Honestly, it’s more of me making fun of myself more than anything. For some reason I can never remember the difference between hex bits/torque bits/allen keys. Anytime I’m dealing or talking about them I’m mixing them up. Inside joke in the house, my husband will try to explain the difference and I’ll tell him “I’m a girl, I don’t care”

So I believe that you are not qualified to be reviewing multi tools if you don't think you should be able to cut coat hangers. I remember watching the video from Leatherman, showing them using a charge TTI to cut thick hardened nails. Maybe do some research before you give bad information to people about what they should be purchasing.....

    • @EDCQ
      @EDCQ  Před 3 měsíci

Thank you for watching and commenting! Really appreciate it! I know that there are definitely people using multitools for “hard use” either job related or life related. But personally, I have never needed to cut a metal hanger with my multitool, when I cut metal of some dowel sort, it’s normally a nail for one reason or another and I use metal snips. If I was going to be in a situation where my multitool was what I could use and I would be doing hard tasks with it, I would 100% bring my Surge that is built like a tank. If I only had one multitool, I wouldn’t choose the Arc. But if I had multiple. I would choose the Arc every time as my edc one and the surge for the work horse.

Agreed! Being able to use the tool the way the manufacturer says it can be used, demonstrates it to be used is a must. Coat hangers are pretty easy to cut with any cheap wire cutter, it shouldn’t be a challenge for such and expensive tool with hard wire cutters, cutting coat hangers is also a test for any multi tool with a hardwire cutter. If it can’t cut a coat hanger it can’t cut mechanics wire. I use coat hangers or mechanics wire for all kinds of things while fixing cars, other vehicles, garden and garage hooks, fence ties and more. I cut a lot of garden fencing with other Leatherman without a problem. I mod things and appreciate a hardwire cutting implement on hand at all times, I camp and hike, I use the cutters for endless tasks. And WTF with “I know there’s a difference, I’m a girl, I don’t care” comment? Your site is about EDC, you should be ashamed to make the coat hanger comment about a tool such as this and making derogatory comments about women not knowing tools. I’m a female, retired auto mechanic and repair shop owner, I take EDC tools seriously and knowing my tools seriously. I expect anyone that wants to be respected and taken seriously about EDC to know their tools, you seem to have very little self respect. You won’t get my viewing anymore. Bye

Just had to add this- After I finished my rant I went out to get my chickens in their run because a storm is brewing, the run door latch broke, I ran in, got a coat hanger and made an impromptu latch with my Leatherman. While I was working on it a coyote stopped by, I made sure he can’t get in, coat hanger and capable Leatherman to the rescue! It might be good enough for a permanent latch.
