- Making an epoxy adhesive paste or putty is easy and straightforward. In this video we’ll show you how to make a paste or putty for bonding or filleting using epoxy resin and cabosil as a thickener. This is a versatile option for gluing materials together as it makes a putty or paste that won't run off the parts being glued and can be used to glue sheet goods together or to install bulkheads or stringers, or to create a gap filling putty.
Some notes:
The more viscous (thicker) the resin system the less cabosil you will need to add, that said even a low viscosity system can be thickened.
Materials used in this video:
Epoxy Resins - fiberglasssupp...
Cabosil (also known as fumed silica or aerosil) - fiberglasssupp...
Mixing Supplies - fiberglasssupp...
Safety Supplies - fiberglasssupp...
You can add wood flour.. it's cheaper and works really well.
I had to redo this 3 times. The first times I either added too much Cab O Sil and it dried up or I let it settle in the mixing cup for too long and it dried up. The 3rd time I got it just right and applied the epoxy adhesive putty to what I needed, just before it dried up.
Thanks man. I was looking for a video to make an epoxy adhesive putty that I can use to fill gaps of air for a 16 oz Starbucks tumbler, I'm making an induction heater and using that as a case. I need to cut out a hole to put a mini DC voltmeter on the side of the cap, but the side of the cap is curved. So when I insert the voltmeter in there, I need to apply epoxy in there to fill the gaps and secure it in place.
Glad I could help
Very interesting
Hi there,
Great video and thank you.
Is that powder change the shene of the epoxy or still stays glossy when is dry ?
Appreciate the video! Question: Would you recommend against using foam dust (such as from a surfboard shaping room) rather than the manufactured thickening agent?
I don't know that I have tried it. I don't see any reason not to try it.
I used to be a skateboard…
