  • James and Matt head to the Bow N Arrow Shop in Lakeside, California which is located in San Diego County to get tune ups on their Bowtech SR350 & Reign 7 compound bows and to hear from Bruce the pros and cons of both an index finger release and a thumb release. Matt has been shooting the carter index finger release and tries out both a carter and stan onnix thumb release. He ends up leaving with the Stan Onnix! Great video! Very informative instruction for a first time thumb shooter. I wish I would have had that kind of teacher when I started.

There are so many ways to shoot each of these releases, some better than others. What really matters in the end is repeatable consistency! Great video.

Great video. I too have been working between index and thumb. I had bought cheap thumb release that would fire on draw due to faults. Definately go for best qauality. Even if they cost more

I have two perfexs that have both been sent back for repair same issue, won't fire under load. startletting down and boom of it goes. one has 100arroes thru it an shave been sent back twice, the other I had a solid year out of it.

Going to a thumb is probably the best thing he’s done. Tiggers are just as accurate if you can and have learned to NOT PUNCH. I used a trigger for nearly 20 years then went to a thumb. Currently using the latest version of the Carter Wise Choice (has no travel adjustment just trigger tension). A good video for those people wanting a quality thumb. Guess I will be ordering me a Stan Onnex too!! lol

I shot a handheld for a while. Both hinge and a thumb. Recently hurt my shoulder and the index alleviates the pain. with the principles I learned shooting a handheld I applied to
Shooting an index for a surprise release and found I have a much more consistent anchor with the index vs the handhelds. I think with any release as long as you can be consistent it doesn’t matter what you use.

Props! Going to Stan one day, and thumb release is my goal. I found the Tru ball is a good index. Execution release, I can use my second finger as a safety and rest index on top of trigger and not have to bring my index around the trigger. I do have to focus on the middle finger as a safety. It is smoother and better adjusted than both my Carters, quickie and Like Mike 11. Thanks for you great vids. getting proud of my correct draw thanks to you guys.

It's been a while since this, but they have figured out how to add a lanyard and a wrist strap to the Stans Onnex Thumb. The team @Bow N Arrow Shop set mine up with a Native Archery release strap. I wish I had seen this episode before I started looking for my first thumb release.

  • @user-ct4im4nd6r

This is good information I’m considering a thumb release but I’m so used to a trigger cause I almost relate it to a rifle When I shoot bench with a rifle I check my process and squeeze the trigger That’s ingrained in my brain When I’m hunting the trigger process I’m used to is instinctive Almost automatic I don’t even hear the shot It’s just a little bit different than target shooting When I shoot my bow I concentrate on form consistentcy but I don’t necessarily feel back pressure like try to pull the bow apart like you have to do a hinge release I feel the full back wall concentrate on the anchor point and aim and my trigger finger knows when the shot is good That’s not necessarily the correct form that’s just my natural process and it works By the way if I’m not punching one big hole at the rifle range at 100 yards I’m not happy

For one you can't have a release set with a hair trigger and expect them to load up on the wall I wouldn't thank them for 2 Look like to me he was punching both of them and liked me had anticipation

Great switch. I would have set the thumb bar to fit the shooter first before he fired it. The stan is great though. Usually set it colder for first timer so they can pull through the shoot.

It's gonna ever but you're never gonna get repeatability when you're football putting that Release there's so much movement in your hand right in your hand by dropping your finger into the release that you'll never get a repeatability I know a lot of people say Kyle Douglas and Tim Gillingham shoot a command style release but they put their finger on the release when the pin gets air they push it they don't slap it
