  • @ana2ne1
    @ana2ne1 Před 2 lety +90

    The wow factor in the kpop industry comes from the behind the scene stuff of the kpop world itself - their trainings, their hardwork and dedications. That draws people's attention to what kpop is in general. in Lisa's case, besides Blackpink, Lalisa (her real name) herself is the brand. Whatever she puts out in the media sells. It goes beyond the music.

    She did not write this. She is a first-class dancer, who can sing well and rap really well, but I don't believe she's written that much as of yet. But then again, Korean and English are like the 2nd & 3rd of 5 languages that she knows. Grammar, syntax, sentence structure, not to mention a completely different alphabet?? Her english is quite good, but I doubt she is fluent enough to have a deep understanding of metaphors, alliteration, repetition, etc...so I think it's asking a bit much of her to be an accomplished lyricist in a language that is not her native-tongue. Perhaps if she puts out a track in Thai, then she will put then pen on that pad...?

    You don’t get it because you’re not easily impressed. You see it as entertainment. Nothing more than that. That’s why you compare to try to understand why the numbers are high.
    The numbers are high because of the fan base. I think the fan base grows when people are interested in seeing more of their work and you discover how hard they trained and the challenges they go through and you want to support them even more.
    What captures people is the production. They switch the beat but the beat is always sick. By switching the beats, they keep your attention waiting to see what the next beat will be. By the time you know it, you’ve watched all their videos, know where they were born, know all the languages they speak (being fluent in English helps with western fans). They have many videos for you to watch to get to know them and people feel connected when they watch. So the support is stronger. They recommend reactors to react to their videos which opens more windows to more potential fans and it just keeps on going.
    I don’t even know how I got sucked into it. Can’t even remember the first video I watched of them. I heard one song and looked it up and here I am two years later.

      Because they are Blackpink man they were born for global acceptance and impact not just in South Korea or Asia. They are a revolution. Their DNA are hip hop, pop and EDM, but they eat almost all genres except classical or opera music (I never heard it by them). 1st KPOP group that I really pay attention and notice is Blackpink, I watched and heard a lot of Kpop since 2nd generation of KPOP but can't attract or suck me into KPOP. It's just ok for 1 or 2 songs by other groups that are catchy for me, even BTS only 3-5 songs that attract me but Blackpink is different they are making the game-changing (in a good way) I can enjoy with all of their music (all it means include their B-side track and their cover song). The talent of the member itself is very bold and distinctive character. They can easily adapt to almost any genre with their capability and talent. Blackpink is different, they are on another level. Best among the best.

Lisa had to audition and compete against 3,999 other people to be apart of the company she is in now with blackpink. She also learned 5 languages and worked and practiced for 5 years in singing, rapping, dancing, and general stage presence before being able to be a kpop idol. It's all in their work and now high production the mv’s and stages are. They work do hard and even harder than most American musicians today. It's fine you don't get it. Kpop isnt for everyone. As someone who has been surrounded by kpop fans and personally just got into it recently. I think kpop fans aren't THIS engaged because of the music, like you sad it is great but great music comes from all around the world, what makes the kpop industry different is their fan service. While you can only glimpse a western artist's (or any artist) life and personality by interviews and what they share on social media, from what I know most, if not all, kpop idols would have vlogs, livestreams, etc. giving fans a deeper look at their lives and taking fans in the journey with them. So kpop fans are invested in the idols themselves more than their music, which is also why to be a kpop idol there is a strict image to maintain

    • @lalalalim803
      @lalalalim803 Před 2 lety +1

      Also, I'm guessing if you had a conversation with hugs kpop fans before, they would say *idol* trained for this many years, so talented and can do this and that and that, went through so many hardship to get where they are today, etc. so see, the reason is in who they are rather than what they actually do musically.
      So you wouldn't understand the hype by simply listening to their music and watching their music videos, although their music videos are on a different level so maybe the views they get you'll understand by that. Might as well just enjoy the music

If we're talking about the group as a whole, it's basically the same thing... No one does it ALL better than them. And THEN to top it all off... it's the DUALITY for most of us... On stage, they're badasses... Off stage, they're the sweetest angels there is... and you'd never know they were the biggest group in the world. I've been around a long time now, and never have I really cared about any musical group or solo artist the way I do these girls... They just suck you in, and that's it.

    Thanks for your reaction and great question (why has BP and Lisa attracted such a devoted and large following). Simple answer (before getting deep as shit), the attraction for me is that Blackpink in general and Lisa in particular are performing awesome sounding songs that make me feel happier about life and inspire me to overcome life's obstacles and are self empowering in a way I find difficult to explain. I can't articulate the exact reason that I get that from their songs, but listening to many reactors, they experience the same thing, and American music doesn't give me that inspiration and feelings. Maybe it is the complex multi-genre blending that results in self-empowering songs. You should get yourself familiar with Teddy Park, who has produced all of Blackpink's songs and solos. He produced many of the greatest hits at YG BEFORE he became Blackpink's one and only producer. Teddy is Korean-American, that moved from America to Korea where he started out as a hard-core rapper. So, that is the male hard-edged influence you hear. Except that he often incorporates Country, EDM, Indian (as in the country of India), Middle-Eastern, and Spanish influences, all of which make most American music seem like simple minded kid's songs. Maybe it is the extreme depth of some of their great songs. For example, in How You Like That there are at least 5 CZcams videos that explain on a scene by scene basis the symbolism injected into that song related to Greek Mythology. Each of the girls plays a different Greek Goddess that overcomes subjugation and oppression to triumph in the end. Some of BP''s MVs are literally scripted as movies (HYLT & KTL), but with great beats, and beautiful characters. And, no, I don't see anything like that in Western music. For example, in one of those analysis videos, a Cambridge University graduate in Greek Mythology explains that Rose being lowered to the ground while laying on a bed of flowers symbolizes the story of Persephone, daughter of Zeus, who was kidnapped while picking flowers, forced to marry Hades (the Greek version of the Devil himself) and literally dragged to Hell. All that symbolism of female subjugation packed in 15 seconds. She eventually got a reprieve to escape Hell half the year. Or in Kill This Love, where Rose and Jisoo appear to be killing a version of themselves, they are reflecting Freudian symbolism where SuperEgo (logical side of a person psyche) is trying to wrestle control away from the Ego (pleasure seeking side of a person's psyche). So the song delves into self destructive toxic love from a psychological point of view. And where the F are you going to see something like that in an American MV that appear to be simply focused on attention grabbing imagery, whether it makes sense or not? Answer, doesn't exist. Anyway, what BP is trying to achieve from an artistic (even literary) standpoint seems to be far greater than what often is simple-minded, single-genre, often crass American MV's (Billie Eilish and Kanye West excluded). But in the end, I get positive inspiration energy from performers that I genuinely like and admire that I don't get anywhere else.

We've had a picture of Kpop, being this amazing industry of music that is set to be above all, with better music, dance, singing, rapping, and visuals. I love Lisa, don't get me wrong, she is smart, beautiful, and talented, and this song is catchy. BUT... This song is nothing special to what plays in the US. It's only "special" because Lisa dropped this song. Will still support her, because still maturing in her solo tracks. Happens to all artists who start solo songs when they are in a group. A better question is why are the Kardashians so famous? And how they can get filthy rich off of doing nothing. At least Lisa, can dance, rap, and sing.
    But to answer your question directly, marketing and image. Lisa is the perfect product to represent a growing global trend that is Kpop. It’s a mash up of different genre that’s colorful and fun. Lisa adds to it with swag and cuteness.
    Another factor is that globally, Black culture is appreciated, but very sadly, Black artists are not. Some Kpop acts can provide the hip hop from an alternative source. People don’t want to admit that because it would admit to being racist.
    It’s a collective set of reasons but the biggest reason is Lisa herself. Others can copy her style but none will garner the same success.

    Just like all art, it's subjective so if it doesn't really appeal to you then you're not really gonna be into it but I guess the best way I can explain it is like this: when most consumers look for a product they go for the best quality. Well, Lisa & Blackpink are arguably the best quality product that Kpop has to offer. They've got the beats, the dances, and the singers/rappers of the highest tier and even if they don't appeal to EVERYONE their sound and visuals appeal to not only the masses, but also what's trending/viral. That's why they have the popularity that they do.
    No, Lisa & Blackpink aren't the most naturally gifted musicians in the sense that they don't really write their own music, make their own beats, or choreograph their own dances but neither did Rihanna and she released banger after banger. While I agree with most commenters saying Lalisa has a huge fanbase that will support her and regardless of what she puts out there, it will do numbers but, in the case of Money, that track is on all viral playlists of Spotify, on Rolling Stones charts etc. because of organic success. It has broken into Apple Music's Global top 20 (something no other k-pop soloist or is it k-pop female soloist has), the track has charted higher than any track by any other k-pop band or artist in countries like Germany (a tough but huge music market). Other records broken like the Guinness records and YT and iTunes records are just hygiene for someone like Lisa. Money is actually an organic hit that went viral because apart from this one performance video there is no other effort put into promoting it. But even Lisa's fanbase couldn't get it the numbers it's getting a month after its release, only the general public, non-Lisa fans liking it and using it is what is getting the numbers.

    let me explain this, you need to think outside of the box so in Kpop everytime they have a comeback they going to have totally differemt sound but stay in the same concept or trying a new concept examples western artist back in 2015 2016 ed sheeran come out with "shape of you" it's just sound unique, he usually do R&B and ballad type of song but he blow up when "shape of you" come out and everyone already know him, if only artist in western keep changing their sound no one will find it boring, for me everytime lady gaga come out with a new song i feel boring bcause her singing melody style is all the same in every song i know and we all know that how she sound like but she never try to find a new melody singing for her song that how boring it is, but in Kpop they take a risk thinking that no one going to like the sound but still they keep trying new thing every single day

      I must say, I am exuberant that no "Lisa onlyfans" have raided this comment in three weeks. I thought the entire Blink Fandom was doomed to be infected by these parasites similar to Ramsey against The Flash. It's probably solely because he name wasn't stated, so the implication went over their heads.

      if I were one of the writers or composers of the song she performs or chose to put in her album, it would be such an honor and I would be so HAPPY and SO PROUD bcs I know without a doubt she would deliver it FLAWLESSLY AND PERFECTLY to the audience.

    Let me explain Stevie.. Kpop is not all about music, yes it's a genre but the K-POP CULTURE is selling the characters as much as the music. The contents are endless for the fans, the more you know the artist the more you love the music. That's Kpop. You need to keep up with the content, then you may get the hype

    It's supposed to be a mindless club / pop hip hop song. The lyrics and delivery aren't crazy at all but the dancing, build ups, drops, choreography is definitely high level. It is super catchy for a pop audience and the dancing is exceptionally catchy and will have a lot of people emulating it.

    I respect your opinion. I am non Kpop fan before so I got your point but what is special for Kpop is not only song and production but also performance and Lisa is dope in this performance vedio.
    This song is viral in social media coz it easy for audiences to digest , having catchy hook people could edit with fun video as it talk about dropping money , majority of ppl can enjoy the song .
    This song popular by the song itself With very less promotion , many ppl do not even know that it Lisa song that why it got high in Shazam chart ppl heard some part of the song in social media and Shazam it . This song also charting in many countries in Europe which Kpop normally not popular over there.
    You may think it’s viral bcoz Kpop fan but no it is not . This song became viral a month after release and still climbing up in western chart . Fun fact!! hit song is not necessarily to be a best production or best quality. But it hit because the song could hit majority of the audiences that it . For me this song also did not hit me at first time but after I heard the hook over and over now it my favorite song in my playlist. Every time I heard the song I feel rich and the song could bring me back from any depression feeling.

    Kpop get these numbers because the industry is smart af. The way these kpop idols are designed/developed is something we don’t have here in the west and never will. Here, for the most part, there’s the artist/celebrity then there’s the fans, separated. In the kpop industry it’s almost like the group and the fans are this one big thing. The way idols interact with fans it’s almost like they’re friends, family, or even significant others. A lot of idols joke that their boyfriend/girlfriends are the fans, but it isn’t far from the truth in a lot of cases. 99% of the groups aren’t even allowed to date publicly because that would ruin their image for obsessive fans. Many of them aren’t allowed to drink or swear publicly to ensure they keep a clean or innocent image. Idols use their “free time” to do vlives(kind of like live streams or face timing) with their fans and just talk while hanging out at their dorm/house. Each group has a fandom name. Once you give your supporters a name in anything, it doesn’t have to be music, it gives them a sense of belonging. Like they’re part of the group too. Little stuff like this builds a strong relationship between the idols and fans, so they do some pretty intense things to make sure their groups succeed. It even gets to a point where if their group doesn’t win something the fans feel like it’s their fault and that they need to try harder to support them by running up numbers, buying more albums, forcing reactors to like their groups. It’s not on the singers, in their minds, it’s on them to work harder and they’re more than happy to do so.

    @natsudragneel149 Před 2 lety +8

    Numbers for sure don’t lie. Maybe it’s the wave of Kpop that’s making them break records consistently, but if anything, they are definitely dominating the industry right now. Nobody does what they do on a level that they do it and we don’t have to compare it with western music at all. Just gotta appreciate greatness when it’s there. Dope reaction as always man.

    Lisa's genre is not for hardcore lyricist rap type of reaction. You need to adjust your perspective to enjoy her musicality, at least you have to know her first :D. She is a wellrounded artist (or idol in south korea) and she is one of the best in Kpop. She almost could fit to any genre of music. She sings, raps, and dance. And she always nailed it to every performance she had.
    I love Eminem and once i saw this girl..i wish someday Em could get connection to this swag girl. Her aura and charm are on different level to million of people..

    The reason why Most Kpop music sounds Cool and Hip and Swaggy is because they use a lot of Influence from BLACK Culture as a whole. Even some Afro beats and such. Along side with their Own Korean styles and Cultures, they intertwine Afro culture with their own basically.

    It actually tells us how deep and far the hip hop culture reaches. KPOP is in a genre of its own, but, hip hop is universal… the crazy thing is Lisa and black pink bring in massive numbers in sales and views.. and these numbers are global. Look at Eminem, globally he’s Godzilla! But, in the U.S? 🙄 which is mind blowing. But, KPOP has global fans and now has a massive following in the U.S… Black Pink/ Lisa are global, that’s where the numbers come from.
