How to Convert a petrol Car to Electric car with Hydraulic Power steering

  • In this video I will show you how to convert an old petrol car into complete EV keeping the power steering system as before using a separate motor.
    As you can see in the video we took a heavy weight Ford sedan for our project of converting it into complete electric vehicle. As we have completely removed the IC engine of the vehicle the power steering mechanism coupled with the engine also got dead and the steering became very heavy. It is a big obstacle if you try to convert a vehicle of that size into complete EV. So to overcome this problem we used a different motor to energize the power-steering system which works properly.
    I have used a 60V 3000W BLDC motor with 60V 4000W controller for powering the vehicle and as mentioned before a different BLDC motor of 60V 750W with 60V 750W controller to energize the pump for power steering.

    An extra belt could be adapted to the motor to rotate a high capacity (say 90 Amps) alternator to power 12V DC for the vehicles electrical components.
    Again, a DC - DC converter can be used to bridge alternator and battery for auto-charging of battery (with a good charge controller to prevent over-charge from destroying the battery).

    If the ratio of the steering wheel pulley is the same like the motor or 1-1 ratio then you should connect both the same way the main motor is mounted the way to no waste energy on the pulleys and belt due to friction, also you should ad a variable control circuit that turns on the steering system just when its needed, not on all the time.

    • @Tore_Lund
      @Tore_Lund Před 3 lety +3

      Stay away from automatic gearboxes for ev conversions. they are less efficient than manuals and you rarely need gears at all in an EV. Likevise with AC and powersteering. You might get away with an electric powersteering rack, as they only use power when turning the wheel with force, but the exercise here is to make as efficient a vehicle as possible, so preferable you get a motor that has enough torque to drive the differential directly, which has around 1:4 gearing, so you don't need a gearbox at all.

    Good job.
    But you need more power for hill climb.
    3000 w are only 4 hp.

    Very good. Instead of needing a crane to remove the gas engine you just take it out and n parts.

    Yuou could use the other end of main motor axle to revolve power steering wheel!

    • @rickygharat84
      @rickygharat84 Před 3 lety +3

      No that's not good idea as when motor will be still then turning wil be difficult and keeping motor running all the time like combustion engine wont be good

      @@rickygharat84 this setup won't give you the desired figures when it comes to range.

      I think much better setup if the steering pump motor will turn on only when the car moving and only when there's a streeing wheel movement when idle. Of course need sensor for that to works.

      Use a pulley wheel on a drive shaft with a belt to the pump this means pump will only run when car moving problem is the shaft movement up and down when moving ??????

    • @keithdunderdale8027
      @keithdunderdale8027 Před 3 lety

      Do you not switch motor off when coming to a stop ??? If this is the case you could drive a pump from the other end of motor as was suggested

    U should add an alternator and try modifying it to recharge the battery using the wheel's spin power

    Pregunta el carro se carga el mismo con algún generador como el alternador o hay que conéctalo ala corriente eléctrica para cargar la batería

  • @nicolasmorales1746
    @nicolasmorales1746 Před 3 lety

    Con un sistema de poleas ...tipo fricción.... y si agregas un alternador mas grade creo que tendrías mas corriente para alimentar el motor y recargar la batería simultaneamente !!! Buen video adelante !!!!

    This car has huge space so using a 72v motor would have given better power and 11kw /150 ah battery pack would give it juice to run 80+ kms atleast

    You could put a vacuum pump on their as well for the brakes. Get one off of an Isuzu diesel engine. It's mounted on the back of the alternator. Just get the one that has sealed bearings instead of the one that uses engine oil to lube it. Is that power steering pump turning the right direction?

      Prolly soon, considering that petrol cars sale will be banned in the next decade or so. It only means sale tho, you could still drive your petrol car beyond 2030 if u purchased it before the ban was exercised.
