I did a 1950s inspired kitchen too! I used Grey and dark Grey tiles, I felt b&w would be too busy. Painted my walls super pastel pink and my back splash a powder baby blue. Love it!

Initially I said yes, Bc he seemed cool (and didn’t ask until after the job was complete so it wasn’t awkward)… BUT after the fact he got creepy. For our first date he kept insisting I meet him at a hotel. Yes, a hotel. I told him he was making me extremely uncomfortable and I asked him not to contact me again. Then it hit me- this guy knows where I live and is creepy AF. What if he comes back?! It made me soo uneasy. I vowed after that to turn down any offers with contractors and workers like that just from a safety standpoint. And fortunately I have a great partner now so no more weird dates at all lol.

Those not-exactly-black-and-white colors do almost exactly match the (asbestos) tiles my grandparents put into their super stylish MCM home. Sigh. I am going to have to have them removed but their subtle color captures the era better than anything.

It's because in the 50s, asbestos tiles came in 9x9 squares. That's why it's so easy to tell if tiles are asbestos or not, bc once asbestos stopped being standard, so did that sizing.
