Thank you to the amazing artists who have allowed us to share Frankenstein in this way, during this unprecedented time, when so many theatre fans can't visit their local theatres.
At the National Theatre in London, we make world-class theatre that is entertaining, challenging and inspiring. And we make it for everyone.
National Theatre Live is National Theatre’s ground-breaking project to broadcast the best of British theatre to cinemas in the UK and internationally.
Frankenstein was filmed live on-stage in 2011 by National Theatre Live.
'the theatre can do things that movies can't. it's like a living organism every night. the thing only happens when there's an audience, and real people on a stage.'
me, under quarantine, having to do my drama degree dissertation by myself at home: *looks into the camera like i'm in The Office*
And the award for most relatable comment goes to...
I literally just copy pasted this for my drama work-
Probably the most badass thing I’ve ever seen on the stage ever: These two switching and absolutely killing it
now i wish i live in London...Jesus, the production was genius! to swap the characters played by two brilliant and dedicated actors...was friggin amazing!
Doesn't matter where you live, now.

I really hope the Nat Theatre make more use of the global audience for these shows.
Not "free live streams" but performances you could pay to download or stream for a limited window.
I can't believe it wouldn't a) interest in theatre and b) increase revenue.
It's also coming to Amazon Prime this month.
The two modern TV Sherlocks
when JLM as Victor uttered "paradise" while talking to Elizabeth, and his mouth twitched for an instant in the same way he does as Creature, I wanted to laugh out loud, it was a brilliant inside joke
It’s been like 7 years since I’ve seen this cinema I beg get this on DVD
This is a brilliant idea! Personally, I've always seen The Creature and Victor Frankenstien as a symbol for the complexities of human morality, so it's interesting to see both actors show this with the different interpritations of these characters.
completely brilliant! The swapping of roles, the set, the lighting....wow!
For everyone who wanted to see it. It’s gonna be on national theatre CZcams page next Thursday for a week
Sherlock and Sherlock together at last! Lol. Now where's Robert Downey Jr. when you need him?
Off filming with an ill-advised "Welsh" accent.
I kinda liked how JL Miller shaved his head for when he has to play the creature
Saw it twice in London, was lucky to see both versions and it was brilliant! What an expierence...I'll never forget
Benedict Cumberbatch’s performance was heartbreakingly beautiful.
I watched both and I have to say I came away with a deeper and richer appreciation for the performances as a whole. It was Brilliant!!
I watched the Cumberbatch/Creature version first. Gotta admit, the whole time while watching Jonny Lee Miller/Creature the following night I kept waiting for the scene where the creature jumps out of the bed. I STILL don't know how they kept still and hidden under the sheet! But, yeah, yeah, great art and all that, too. But...the bed!?
Fantastic!! I really love all this story, and now, with the performance of both actors more, really.
I hope this production will be shown in movie theaters around the world - it looks so wonderful :)
It was just unbelievable amazing and thrilling ! Both !! A huge moment of creation ! Many thanks to the team and National Theatre, from Paris !
National theater make us a big gift ..ppppppppleaseeeeee= UPLOAD = Doubling Frankenstein and The Creature = THANKS
Even as The Creature, Benedict Cumberbatch is still hot. How???
Because he's Benedict
The producers missed the whole idea of the book, then. Victor rejects his creation because it is ugly.
Absolutely astounding!! I listened to a Radio 4 Extra broadcast last night by Nicholas Hytner describing the interview he and Danny Doyle had with Benedict Cumberpatch - hmm I thought it cant have been as good as they said but - as the CZcams clip showed - it was even better - and that's not taking away anything from JLM he is just as amazing... I haven't been to the theatre for at least 15 years because I cant afford it but these short CZcams videos and Radio 4/4 Extra broadcasts give me a much welcomed insight in to this amazing and diverse part of our culture which should never be allowed to fade out because of this pandemic -the phoenix of cultural arts will rise again and will be welcomed back and take its rightful place in our wonderfully British culture which has no equal across the whole of the globe.
Why don't you release this on blu-ray!!!!!!!
I really want to see this
We’re so lucky that they put this up...even if I could’ve gotten to London for this (and there was no way), I’d likely have only been able to see the one night so I’d never get to see the other actor play the same part. I’m so thankful for this stupid virus, in a way. I’ve been able to see productions that I never could’ve been blessed with otherwise.
Exactly!
noooo i was just watching the play and then they took the video down, i was only 3/4 through! :'(
Is there anywhere I could find the plays as I have been doing uni work this last week and missed them both 😢
I would love to be able to see them as Benedict Cumberbatch is such an amazing actor and undoubtedly such an amazing human being
They only gave us the version of Benedict as the creature.....We need both.
Both were up, at the same time, actually
Thank you for this amazing acting, so stunning and breathtaking. Dear Director of the National Theatre will it be possible to put it again for some time to watch the version with Mr Benedict Cumberbatch as a creature? Thank you in advance!
Oh how I wish I could stream this in California!!!
+Megan Smetzer I mean, it was in theaters here. (In California, that is.)
It was? I'm in CA too -- I'll investigate more! Thank you!
Both versions will be on this CZcams page for a week starting on April 30th.
Hmm I think I'll watch up to the interval with one and then swap when its released on thurs/fri
Any chance you made the play available again?
I missed the version with Benedict Cumberbatch as the creature and very bummed about it. Is there any way I can pay and watch it?
I missed the one with Johnny as the creature, and I was wondering the same thing!
I completely missed this. Is there any way they’d upload the two versions again? Please-??
They’re available now.
And I missed it. :(
Benedict's creature was heart-shattering. Is there no way to see the reversed casting version?
Looks like they're airing the reverse casting version tomorrow!
they did broadcast both ,not sure if still avalible
Oh, JLM's Creature was heartbreaking to me. The end when he thinks Victor is dead...so sad & child-like....
Where can I watch the full play
Can someone tell me where can I watch this?
SHERLOCK VS SHERLOCK
Just 1 more Sherlock the iron man twin one and we would have a complete set
pov: You are here because of online school or homework
Anyone wanna make me a 300 word response for this I cba 😂
Anyone else think of That Mitchell and Webb look? czcams.com/video/Mj5HTUr2Ki0/video.html
I think that that in itself was a reference to the stage production when the actors swapped roles. I remember reading about it.
Thank you for reminding me of this gem! I've seen it before, but I laughed so hard yet again :-D
