LC is supposed to be a “qualifying” tournament for the CCC. However, all those LC games are in U.S. soil (like you mentioned) also there are 18 Liga MX vs 29 MLS participants. Liga MX has its flaws like neglecting player development, but they are not idiotic in building squads. MLS has had essentially the same structure since its inception in 1996, Lack of depth is still ongoing, even bringing up MLS youth players up to the first team has restrictions. Liga MX is pretty good (Top 10 #9-10) MLS is ok (Top 15 #13-15) BTW Fisher out!
I just see the leagues cup as such an unnecessary cash grab tournament. And for that reason I can’t see it being played in Mexico as it wouldn’t generate the same kind of revenue and then the fact that MLS wanted to skip out on the open cup cause of the schedule congestion but yet they create this tournament, it makes them look like a joke And yes, even with the implementation of the DP rule and the u22 players, MLS teams cannot compete against liga mx teams when it comes to building these squads.
