  • This is what Pohnpei traffic is like now a days. More cars, more people, more traffic jam... Imagine 10 years from today, with all imported USED cars, our land will become a junkyard where thrown away cars will pile up and no place to plant our local food or build huts for our future generations. Soangoasoang en mehn waila is a term that Pohnpeian's used today and evidence of this is now a reality.. For a small island, not bigger than a point of a pencil on the world map, this is a scary situation which the FSM people must come to face one day. Share your comments.... March 2027 hoping I reached that time to compile another video of Pohnpei in the future.
The songs playing are not my own and thanks to the composer for such great and powerful sounds.

Nice religious sounds in the background or from your car.

i like your music... i think for a small island like Pohnpei, it's better to have a limited public transport and minimize people from using private cars to lessen the traffic and pollution. it's one way of preserving the beauty of our God's creation.

If you want to avoid traffic, take the freeway. Anyways that traffic don't look that bad.

This gives a Philippines vibe. Kolonia looks like a 3rd or 4th class component city from the Philippines.

my goodness... I lived in Kolonia 30 years ago... I drove down main street... It's remarkable what these years under the Compact of Free Association have brought to the country. This was before the capital was started at Palikir (yes, I am old...he he). I would say... don't focus on the negative here... what someone needs to do is develop the entrepreneurial spirit and start metal recycling. If you wonder what that could mean, look to the Philippines. I have always a fond memory of Pohnpeians for their warmth and generosity and for Micronesia as well. It will be with me until my last breath....

Thank you Todd Broussard. Warm welcome and kaselehlie to you and your loved ones. I came back in 1992 from US Navy and been here since then. Internet has transform this paradise island. You are right, we need recycling as cars are now piled up near the road. Share the video and keep the comments coming.

I appreciate you raising the awareness that your islands are special and perhaps you can influence the younger generation to think of the environment and find ways to keep the land and oceans clean for all future generations to enjoy. Please share this concerned video. Because of internet, car and other products are taking over this beautiful paradise and littered our small island. The island of Pohnpei is just a dot on the map compared with other places and yet our beautiful land is "a dumping ground". Sad story but very true.

Well, in 10 years the electric cars will be more than the fossil combustion cars. And it seems to me that Pohnpei is the proper place for electric cars. By the way, I like this city a lot. Is it the capital Palikir? Your clip is the most relevant clip about the city of Pohnpei that I found on internet. Thanks!

I was born there in the mid 70's and lived there till the early 80's when we moved to Truk. Back then cars were not common. I agree in a few more years these islands will be a junk yard of cars. Mabey China will realize the amount of scrap metal on these islands. It would be a lot cheaper to ship scrap form Micronesia than from the US

What gets me is the huge number of RHD vehicles, despite Micronesia driving on the right (USA) side; flip side is driving in the US Virgin Islands, driving on the LEFT but, in typical USA market LHD vehicles.

Kerson John. Thank you for viewing this video. Share with families, friends, and just anyone interested in our island lives. Cars are becoming one commodity that is very much taken over Pohnpei. It has been only 2 years since I posted this video, but because of the internet, used cars are pouring in by the 50 each shipment and Pohnpei is littered with this activity. So many cars running on the road and so many are lined up alongside the road not working anymore. Share, share, share.
