It's very difficult in the EDM space to have something of a signature sound, that doesn't end up sounding like dozens of other artists, but this is very much a signature Joel piece. Impressive.

Fun fact: He based the spelling off a Final Fantasy VIII creature referred to as a Guardian Force called Quezacotl. Legend has it that the game devs had to shorten its name from Quetzalcoatl (the actual spelling of the Aztec deity) to Quezacotl due to character limitations of early video games. Just like Joel had to with his name: deadmouse to deadmau5 in online chatrooms, etc.

I like the 3D visual representation of the track layers.
Not just visual, either. He has a setup capable of Atmos (spatial) stuff, and if you close your eyes with good headphones, the notes travel up and down with the lights. Not sure how he accomplishes this with CZcams compression......the FLAC tracks have to be SO much better.
