      I had KSDigital C88, Abacus cbox4, Neumann KH310 and now the KH120 - Heard nearly all Genelec Products, ATC scm40 (DIY Active Version - favorite of all Systems i heard in my life), some Adams and other Brands. KH120 (also 310) are after all these years of listening, my choice in my room. Specially for that Price. Maybe Amphions, Barefoots F01 or Unity Audios Rocks are little better because theyre sealed but there is no chance to listen to them at home without a big effort & shipping costs. So i def. stick with Neumann for a while because i realy like them

      i recently switched from NS10s as my primary to a pair of Output's Frontiers. I love them. they are just so pleasant to listen to and are the first pair of monitors i can fully trust, and the first thing i mixed on them was the first thing i didn't have to keep falling back to headphones to hear the low end.

    Great to see you shout out Colt. I've been following his channel since he had under 2000 subs, and his knowledge and vibe have been inspiring to watch. His videos are quality information for anyone working in the pro-sound industry. Great monitor choice. Enjoy!

    I just got a pair of the Focal Trio 6's about a month ago. Absolutely love them! I also have Genelec 1030A's and PMC IB1's...both are fantastic. But there is something about the Focal's that takes the listening experience to another level. Along with my Grace m905, it's just a killer experience. I am using a sub from a different manufacture but the Focal sub is on my hit list. You're gonna love them!

    Thanks for the review! I have the Trio 6B’s , great choice! .Although the 6B’s are slightly smaller then the 11’s, the low frequency is profound and I haven’t needed a Sub . I have not had any issue with Eq and gain staging Kick and Bass. They sound the same as the 11’s with slightly less bass. I wish you the best with your investment.

    I've had my Focal Trio 6's for a couple years now after getting off the Neuman's. I love um, but bass is a lot lighter than you'd expect for an enclosure that big. It's the midrange that's addictive. Just like any monitors. Once you get used to them and learn them, you can put out some incredible mixes.

    I just got the Barefoot footprint 02 (I have a pretty small room) and they're amazing! I also recommend the Mackie CRX series if you are on a budget tho! I've also been at studios with the Trio 6 and they're incredible too. I would say actually really comparable, but ever so slightly better than the barefoots. And at the studio I work from we have crazy expensive Genelecs, but they are insane

    Congrats! :) I’m thinking... Knowing your room, and having tested in pro studios with my own Adam A7 vs Trio6 (and more), you’re going to love the Trio6 as well!Consider at the Trio6 range you might not need to introduce a sub unless you absolutely must. Are you sure this is the best route to take for the room you’re in now? You did mention moving spaces. I know folks get used to their sub sometimes to their unrealized detriment, but the crossover is only going to make whatever room correction software you’re using likely work that much harder because the Trio6 cover so much of the sub range really well already. Could be more trouble than not. And subs are SO expensive. I hope you might try the Trio6 without a sub first and mic measure the room with REQ Wizard to know for sure. And of course placement has so much to do with it as you know to avoid nulls and SBIR.
    The Trio6 have such good clean and especially tight and focused low end in the sub range, which is going to be very different than the A7 satellite / sub combo.
    Anyhow, just a thought. You do you of course! :) PS. Have you come across Jesco from Acoustics Insider? He’s got some great content with regard to this stuff, too. I still remember you building your room, feels like yesterday. I’m excited by your excitement! It’s an incredible sound.
    I talk too much. Cheers!

    The Neumann KH310s with the new KH750 DSP sub is a must try! My room is smaller than yours and the MA-1 room correction has the edge on Sonarworks. The monitors are are sealed and have the tightest bass... let's just say I've had both Adams and Focals in this room ;-)

  • @ulfdanielsen6009

    Been planning on trying out an experiment in which I´d build a small size full freq. range system built into either side of the wall behind the studio desk - complete with crossovers and dedicated amps pr. monitor sets with maybe downsized subs - 8"ers instead of 15-18"ers,- a sort of home studio equivalent of the big full freq. range monitor systems found in large commercial facilities,- all logic tells me it´s doable.
    Outside of that my absolute favorite monitor system for near field monitoring would be the Andy Munro The Egg combined monitors/amp system,- specifically developed for that exact purpose and very unforgiving,- they have been tailored to give you the sonic thruth - without any form of flattery,- which means they can also from time to time be a humbling experience when listening back to your recordings and mixes,- along the lines of:"... This doesn´t sound all that good... unbalanced... and unevenly recorded.....I´m no better than that?"
    And that´s just listening back to the unproccesed recordings and initial mixes.
    If you can get over - and past yourself,- they will quickly become your new best friends.
    Awesome system.

    A general comment (not intended specifically for this video or you) .
    First thing you need is a seperate AD converter and a separate DA converter. ( The ones in UA are good but not as good as having it seperate). Great cables and then great monitors in my humble opinion! Having 5k monitors on a 2 k interface makes no sense to me... Peace ☮️

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  Před 2 lety +2

      That makes sense. Fun fact the x16 I use is $4,500 and has an upgraded ad/da from the rest of the apollo x line up. I'm certainly under no illusion I have the best anything, but damn is it awesome.

    • @cardinalheartbeat6999
      @cardinalheartbeat6999 Před 2 lety

      Ad/da conversion is extremely overlooked in the “CZcams” community as a whole! I come from a Home Audio background translating to Pro. It’s crazy what the home crowd obsess over and disregard as well as the pro. Both have good reasoning. What blows my mind is the staunch refusal to take cues from either side to put into use on the other!

    Surprisingly, I'm using HiFi speakers for monitoring (well, my Turntable, CD player are in the room as well, that's why).
    Using Focal Electra 906's (got them for 450€ the pair.), and to compare recordings with, I have a Beyerdynamic DT250 headset.

  • @FLH3official
    @FLH3official Před 2 lety +2

    Question: Is it a good idea to change our speakers too often?
    I mean by changing the monitoring system our brain has to learn again all these little things in the accoustic of the room, even the best studio room.
    I think I can maybe do better things with not so bad spakers and a room I know since 5 years than with a new pair of "better" speakers I don't know yet.
    I just ask the question.

    I have a custom made 3 way. Relatively flat to 50hz. With a ribbon tweeter, morel dome mid, and Scanspeak 6.5”. I forget what the port is tuned to. With an 8” warfdale sub. They are not as boundary dependent as some may think. Driving them with Parasound Halo A23. When I take my Audeze LCD-XC off it’s almost a perfect translation mixing between the two. If you haven’t rocked a pair of Audeze XC do yourself a favor. They we power hungry but they are insanely transparent.

    • @cardinalheartbeat6999
      @cardinalheartbeat6999 Před 2 lety

      Oh and one thing! Time alignment! Tweeters closer to ear with the drivers farther away mechanically puts the sound out of phase. I may catch crap for this but the tweeter should always be either on the same plane or farther than the drivers. Limiting the need for EQ or processing to get the speakers to be accurate. I’m not sure if the Focal has the DSP attached to the amp to correct for this or not.

    The nuemann monitors are catching my eye .. I went from a 26x21 foot room with hs8's and hs5's a few years ago with 2 ported 15 inch subs to a much smaller room , within a room im building which thats 9 foot wide , by 18 foot long , 8 foot tall .. ugh .. IM worried .. I have always liked the " fast " tight sound of higher end sealed speakers ... Technically ported speakers have alot of problems and the nuemanns are the only ones i know about that are sealed ... Ive already bought two big boy sub drivers im putting in a sealed box and will run dsp on for cross over controls .. ANyhow it kinda blows my mind that so many monitors are ported designs anymore .. The most room sensitive speaker design possible is a ported box .. Flutter delay , port noise , comb filtering , and sensitivity to room pressures changing the sound of a ported setup ... ALOT of variables ... Ported speakers are designed for efficiency for low end but at the cost of SO MUCH in my eyes .. ANyhow hopefully my new little studio with a iso booth and server closet will be done in the following months .. I hope i dont hate it ..LOL ..ALready have a TON of rockwool waiting to become building treatment on almost every inch of the room . 14.5 bass trap / soffit wall ?

    Is anyone using EQ on their inexpensive monitors? I live in poverty as a musician, and must make huge compromises in the studio. I use many sources to check mixes, 1) Roland RSM90s near fields 2) Typical consumer Sony home stereo 3) Sennheiser HD208pro headphones, 4) My tracking monitors Roland Cube CM30s. The Cubes are sound reinforcement speakers, but I am using them as my main monitors for sound design on synths and effects, mixing levels, EQ, and mixdown. When taking the Cube monitor mix over to my other systems for comparison, I am always happy with my final mixes. And I am happy on my friends systems as well, so the Cubes are doing very well on a good average mix. Now to make these little Cubes work I have to add a small amount of low end EQ that is built into Cube, and it works, without the little bass boost I would get booming bass on my other sources. So instead of buying a real set of near fields for all my recording and synth sound design, I continue to use these for over 10 years now. Using a Cube monitor for years lets me know how the mix will sound on my other sources, Only once did I ever go back and remix, and that was when I used the Sennheiser Headphones to mix, not a good idea, these head phones lack bass response and all my other source systems were booming bass.
