    Bought the game 2 days ago and turned off all the helps. Think Ive crashed over 300x now and haven't been able to finish a single GP, however slowly getting beyond 4-5 laps now. But I want it like this, this even more showcased for me how insanely good these guys are doing it in a real car, there simply is no margin for error, any real mistake might cost you the race (or the season). AI behaviour does seem erratic at times, frequently they break at unexpected times or just right on bump me off the tracks.

      @@ClassicCulprit thanks for asking. It's definitely a lot better, I can go toe to toe with AI on 80-90 difficulty depending on the track. Having just an xbox controller and not a steering wheel does make it harder to take faster corners, so I struggle more on tracks like Hungaroring or Zandvoort. I also haven't quite got into adjusting the steering bias depending on speed, but that's my next goal.

    Traction control slows you down more than anything.
    In my experience, (way too many hours on 19/20/and soon to be 21) medium brake assist with TC off is much much faster than TC full with no brake assist. Traction control is worth literal seconds a lap.

    • @JohnMunroRacing
      @JohnMunroRacing Před 2 lety +16

      It depends on your experience level though, for beginners who haven’t grasped balancing the throttle it can be very difficult to get used to at first. Can be much quicker with TC on until you get to the stage where you are comfortable with balancing the throttle out of corners in the right way 😊
      There’s no doubt that in the long run it can ultimately be quicker without traction control.

    I only play elite and it's been that way since I bought the game. I only play controller, but I'd like to buy a wheel one day. I do not use HUD's of any kind. Rules are always set to strict, and rely heavily on the steering wheel display for any information that I need on the car, or race. I don't discriminate, but the only assist I use is racing line. I only use this on tracks I'm trying to learn or I'm force to driving on that I have no track knowledge of. But it's easy to spot what assists players are using for me. I honestly don't like to see traction control on full in rain or brake assist and those are the easiest to spot in rain.

    I feel like im the only one on pad who doesnt use TCS, just makes the throttle unpredictable honestly, medium will just let you go eventually, give you a false sense of confidence that will just drop out when you get higher geared, i find it easiest to use high or none. Idk how you DON'T use TCS with a wheel though, on controller i have the feel of vibration so i can control rotation on throttle actually really really well, but i have no feedback for what the rear wheels are doing on the wheel. Am I the odd one out here? I find I NEED to use tcs with the wheel, however i dont then need ABS, whereas i need ABS on the pad... lmao

    • @JohnMunroRacing
      @JohnMunroRacing Před 2 lety +3

      Hi David,
      One shot qualifying is a format F1 used during the early 2000’s, basically every driver only gets one lap to set a lap time and that sets the grid for the race.
      Full qualifying is the same format as they have used in F1 since 2006. It’s a knockout system split into 3 sections. The first section (q1), all 20 drivers go out on circuit and have 18 minutes to set as fast a lap as possible. Those who finish the session between 16th and 20th position are eliminated and will start the race from those positions, the top 15 then move through the second section (q2).
      In Q2, the times are all reset, and the remaining 15 drivers have 15 minutes to set as fast a time as they can. Those who finish between 11th and 15th are again eliminated and they will start the race from those positions. The top 10 fastest go into the final third section (q3, or the top 10 shootout).
      In q3, times are reset again and the top 10 drivers have 12 minutes to set as fast a lap as possible. The order of this determines the starting grid for the top 10 in the race.
      Short qualifying in f1 2021 is just a compressed version of this. Instead of 3 different sections, it’s just one session and you have a certain length of time to set the fastest lap you can. The order when the timer runs out is the starting grid.
      I hope this helps! 😊

Being fast doesn't amount to a lot if your car is breaking down, components are wearing out, and you're taking unnecessary grid penalties as a result. Anything that will net you more resource points, try to prioritize those activities. Once you're able to, you'll need to focus on upgrading your facility levels, which will unlock new upgrades and will decrease the chance of a research project failing.

This game is NOT meant for anyone who hasn't played the shit out of previous versions of the game. I really want to like this game, but I've pretty much wasted my money. I was a HUGE f1 fan since 2013, but never tried a game till last year with f1 2020. I really really really wanted to play and have fun. So by the time it was downloading i read some tips online telling me to turn assists all the way or almost all the way down. So i did that, hated it and refunded the game. I was so frustrated. Then I watched a friend play with all assists and then tried my hand. Then I had less penalties and better times(ironic). Then redownloaded it and had tons of fun slowly turning off the assists one by one. Now I can tackle 110 AI with no assists (not bragging just tryna prove that you can be good with assists)
      So have a go again with assists on.

      This game was not built for a controller. It is meant for a steering wheel. Unfortunately I have nowhere to set up a wheel in the room with my PS4.
      I've watched multiple 'tips and tricks' videos. They did shit to improve handling with a controller. If anything the 'tips' made things worse.
      I tried to return the game but unfortunately I purchased it from the Sony store as a digital download. They won't allow refunds if you have downloaded the game. I will never purchase another digital download from them again. I feel ripped off and this will be the last F1 game I purchase.
      Note that I regularly play Dirt Rally 1 and 2 with a controller. A notoriously difficult game for many rally fans. I have 0 problems controlling the vehicles in that game.
