A classic brazilian saturday morning at SBT TV in the 90s:
- Chaves (El Chavo)
- Pica-Pau (Woody Woodpecker)
- Cavalo de Fogo (Wildfire)
- Centurions
- Silverhawks (because Rede Globo had long seized Thundercats rights)
You´d eventually get bored and play your good old SMS or Genesis rental games like MÔNICA NO CASTELO DO DRAGÃO or any other TecToy ripoff lol
Somehow got this game in Russia as a kid. It was on a black unlabeled cartridge at a game store, picked it out of sole curiosity what can possibly be on it.
Wasn't disappointed, but never figured out how to beat the boss after skiing stage. D:
I saw that title and I was like "what the heck, is CZcams drunk with that translation thing?", but nope, it's really one of the games that was only released here.
For context, this is a game that was released by a company called TecToy, that had a long history of relationship with Sega's consoles, which is why many brazilians would remember playing Sega Genesis more than NES, the only NES machine around here was kind of a ripoff (which is why you still see Sega Genesis units, known as Mega Drive around here, being sold officially to this day at toy sections in stores). Because of that, TecToy had some liberty into developing their own games, mostly developing games aimed to us, the brazilian audience. One of the most memorable by them was "Show do Milhão", the brazilian version of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire", but of course there would be some wacky games coming from them.
Also, the reason why Woody Woodpecker is popular there is mostly due to the 1960's version of him, and he got a very good PT-BR dubbing (good use of slangs, even when they sound dated). As someone said to him, he matches well with some of our humor, but I think the charm came mostly because of his voice and the gags. It was one of those Saturday-morning cartoons that we just loved to watch. Ah, and to this day, Woody Woodpecker is a stockpile for brazilian memes here and there, so that's how much we love Pica-Pau :)
When I first saw this video I thought CZcams was translating the title for me and was already mad. But then I watched the game and I am amazed hahah

@Nein Nopes dude, they ran "Mineirinho Ultra Adventures" on agdq, which, in case you're not Brazilian, is a game made as a ad for a very specific restaurant in Rio de Janeiro

I'm still surprised that Woody Woodpecker is so popular in Brazil. When I first learned that, I was like "Wait, what?"

Woody woodpecker is a looooot famous here in Brazil 'cause of the dubbing (it's a lot of memes and funny things that became famous phrases in our vocabulary ) xD

@@Z3r0Sk83r Everybody hates Chris got extremely popular partly to just how relatable it is for people in 2000's Brazil. The culture is different of course but many of the situations can easily parallel the life of a middle class Brazilian kid. Myself included.
