These are the sorts of questions that face Travis Henderson, the wandering protagonist of Paris, Texas.
I'm fascinated by redemption stories where characters have to atone for past transgressions. But so often these characters, who are suffering, crushed by an overwhelming feeling of guilt, so often their journeys for forgiveness seem selfish, fueled by a desire to alleviate their own pain. Which begs the question: Are they actually repentant at all?
This video covers the journey of Travis Henderson, as he tries the best he can to heal what he has broken. But is it enough? And is it worth the cost?

I dont understand some of the analysis of this movie. People saying Travis abandoned his family when they left (splitting hairs i know because they left him for good reason). And Travis also tells Hunter before going to Houston that Hunter will be back with Anne and Walt
I love your review and analysis. I saw the film at it's release in Germany and was blown away. From time to time I made a rewatch, but haven't done so in at least 10 years. It's a tough watch, despite the humourous scenes.

Great movie even if I hated Travis and thought he was a coward. I hope the brother and his wife can be involved in the kid's life because they really got screwed over.
I’d like to think that since Jane had the sense to leave Hunter with them to begin with, she goes LA for support from them. Travis was just meant to reconnect them and fade
