- Happy Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month!
As some of you may know, I was born with a limb difference called ectrodactyly and grew up in a small town. My dating experiences didn't start until after I moved away and went to college. There were concerns and fears going into it, but I still didn't let that stop me. I've had great experiences, funny ones, and ones that hurt, but overall I learned a lot about myself and have those experiences to thank for the advocate I am today.
If you have a limb difference as well, I hope that by me sharing this, it not only shows you the ups and downs of dating with a limb difference, but also shows you that you are worthy of a relationship and there is someone out there for you.

The fact that there are people out there who hone in on things like your limb difference and in the process ignore what a kind and loving person you are is baffling to me.
I’m glad you’ve found such a great partner that loves and accepts everything about you, and that you’ve come to love and accept yourself more too!
It definitely hurts but is the sad truth of the world. I'm hoping that by everyone sharing their stories in the limb difference community that it will one day help change the biases that these people have.

I went on a date with a guy who just showed me some missing fingers, I didn’t notice it until he pointed it out. I was like okay interesting. We continued dating but eventually broke up , he had insecurities and we didn’t match.

I've been on dates as well where most of them weren't fazed by my hands and asked a few questions. But there have also been a few that are uncomfortable and ended things after a few dates.
On the opposite side, I also have friends in the limb different community that are shy and still uncertain about how others will perceive their differences especially in the dating world. It's a process, but it always helps to be around and date people where these things don't matter and aren't the focus of them being "worthy" enough to date 💓
