  • Sailed in La Rochelle, France, in May 2014, in winds of over 20 knots, this was filmed using stern cameras on each Finn. Giles Scott had already won the championship but went on the lead round the medal race for a seventh race win that week. Vasilij Zbogar did just enough to win the silver while Ed Wright (whose camera failed to work) took the bronze.
The film shows Finn sailing and Finn sailors at their best. The conditions were extreme, with exceptional competition among great athletes. They make it look easy.

This needs to be mandatory, the technology is there, it's relatively cheap and the clubs/classes need to get into this because mainstream media are generally not interested. Well done Finns, no audio but a picture tells a thousand words. A great way to show friends what sailing is really like and perhaps get involved.

loving the music! - fits nicely with the situation IMO - fast paced music with fast paced wind condition. technical boats matching very technical guitar finger work. Agreed not everyone's cup of tea, then again neither is sailing Finns in over 20 knots of choppy breeze! anyone know the first song?

By-the-lee looks ‘easier’ on this boat versus laser.
When running by-the-lee in big air an accidental gybe would probably knock you off. I’m guessing a lot of opportunity to get knocked overside on that boat

It's good sailing from the top Finn sailors, but imo 20 knots is NOT heavy in sailing terms. BTW - what cameras were used for this footage? (always important to include this info.)

"winds over 20 knots" someone did say 25-27 knots at times, but hard to say crouching low in a rib to stay out of the rain and spray. but the cameras were gopro hero naked mounted on a custom frame over the rudder.

Why do people always choose heavy metal music for sailing videos?

Pity about the music (?), it detracts from the beauty and bestiality of Finn sailing at its best.
