I LITERALLY JUST WATCHED THIS BATTLE 24-HOURS AGO. I love Southern's sound, artistry, musicality, & intelligence. They have a BEAUTIFUL sound. I can't say that about any other marching band. I preferred SU's "Father I Stretch..." b/c Brian emphasized the beautiful melody. Who cares that he didn't do a verse especially b/c I know what Kanye's verse was. I'm pretty sure *Something in My Heart* was arranged by Nathan Haymer; they been performing that song since at least 2011.

SU plays chorales & marches before the Zero Quarter. Tune into any Marching Ins or entrances for 20-min of this stuff. Band dir Taylor said it's important to warm up the brass instrument and self tune.

As Iâm revisiting this battle and I was listening to JSU playing that who do I turn to I was saying to myself that JSU arrangement sounds very muddy and at times it sounds like a bunch of mush and the difference between JSU and SU is that SU has a more clear sound you can literally hear every section at times and every part clear itâs not jumbled and muddy and you said the exact same thing I was thinking. Great mindsđŻ

I like the different beginnin' JSU, dat was pretty cool. It had a military feel to it. Somethin' the Air Force band would play.. I checked out JSU jazz band and wind ensemble and it's a fresh sound.
I love when other bands go first, cause you can really hear the difference in power and range of SU. And J State had a bigger band back then. Jackson state only truly won 3 1/2 rounds out of all those songs!

Jackson state's first song was a March called Purple Carnival. We played that my crab year at Southern and as a side note, that's the way the old school bands started off battles usually with a March

Yo, I havenât seen anybody put KB on why the energy shifted yet when Jackson played, The Kanye song- itâs because they had to start over. They screwed up the intro, but the video is edited so you donât see the screwup. So that was a automatic loss for that round for Jackson State.

Brutha KB I guess you didn't see the full battle. JSU actually loss from the beginning. Their band director called off a song, the band came in playing two different songs at the same time and messed up really bad horrible and embarrassing people were laughing at JSU. JSU gets the L in crankfest 2016.

This was a good Crankfest and itâs literally thee ONLY one that was even close. The others were called BOOMFEST due to how THEE BOOM dominated! SU sounds great but Jackson has the edge ! SU kinda gets boring at times.
