- There's no doubt the Rlaarlo AM-X12 is Fast and good quality, however, IMO they made this RC Car Fast, but made a big mistake. It's still a decent Buggyr and has plenty of potential. Just make sure you check it all over before running.

Your review was very good and fair. When I look at the price of a car like this in dollars I always think of what else I can get with that amount of money or little less. For example: WL Toys 124017 - $180, one of the 2WD Arrma Boost Series - $200, HBX Ravage, MJX Hyper Go - $110, Rustler and Bandit $170, etc. Thanks for sharing.

I appreciate you pointing out the BS of companies putting out "CZcams" versions of things. Putting out a prototype for testing is one thing. Having CZcamsrs advertise a product that's better than what is actually being sold is unforgivable.
The Max Smasher was the perfect example. The electronics swap they pulled completely changed the product. I threw that piece of junk away and they'll get no further business from me.
Yes… although the FMS change was not as clear cut as that… it was actually when the first batch all sold out. But still… it was a shady swap with no information before hand!
I think you've got that backwards....the initial test release had issues and many youtubers described them then the manufacturer addressed them.
@@muskokamike127 no, you're confused bud. FMS put out a fantastic truck and then swapped the electronics on it and made it virtually worthless. If you're talking about this buggy, yes they put out a version for testing and then improved it. That's perfectly fine. Nobody is going to complain about getting a better product. They have every right to complain when you advertise a monster truck and then ship something that doesn't function as a monster truck. Tomley has done very well to point out the change that was made after he had advertised their product. It's not the fault of the CZcamsrs by any means but it's easy for people pass blame to them. Which is just as wrong as companies downgrading advertised products.

I’ve been thinking of getting a rc car from a Chinese company for a while so I ended up picking one of these up during the sale. Out of the box I had to take it apart as the front diff was super gritty. Turned out that the cross was in the wrong orientation and also had a shim missing. Mine also came with a rearward battery tray, despite coming in late December. I think their new fix is just to include adhesive foam. I still like the car and don’t feel ripped off for the price, but I didn’t think that I should have to do repairs while my battery was charging. lol
The ones they sent to CZcams influencers are off much higher quality than the ones they shipped to regular people. Mine, 32mph stock and 43mph on 3s. Wasn't even close to driving straight

Hey Phil just some info I have on CF.. "most" of the time you can tell it's real by the edge you can see the layers 🤷 .. I do know that giving all edges of CF a layer of CA glue will keep it stronger IE when carbon fiber breaks its not clean or jagged but the layers delaminate and shred and the glue can keep it from happening at least on the edges like a bumper or shock tower . Hell you probably know more about the stuff than I do but for anyone who reads this it works . I use the same type used on tires because the rubberizing component in it makes it so vibration or some collisions won't make it chip off like standard super glue . Cheers!
I bought two on pre-order also. Many upgrades over the wltoys. However the front lower arms are still weak and buckle. Also the bodies break easily. One slow speed impact and both shattered into several pieces. Speeds are great out of the box; 43 and 56 for me no electronic issues.

Im gonna stick with my wltoys 144010 for a while longer. Its my first rc car. Six months of bashin with zero broken parts. Ive upgraded steering servo and swapped in a DumboRC reciever. Rlaarlo seems to listen to feedback so im gonna give them time to work out the kinks and then see if i want to upgrade my wltoys or upgrade to a Rlaarlo. Ive grown quite fond of this channel.
I like that you waited, good observation about the two. I bought one and a roller, the roller they forgot the servo horn and servo mount which is on the way.
I saw that the roller was missing a few bits initially. Hopefully they have sorted it now.

Thanks for the review. Waiting to receive mine this week and your review makes me think I should probably strip it all down, grease and thread-lock everything and change the pinion gear before I even run it.
In case this helps anyone. Thoughts after 1 week of ownership!
I received mine last week, I run it a few minutes indoors and then started an initial inspection/maintenance.
I stripped it down to the diffs. The rear diff, although properly greased from the factory) was not rolling very smoothly. The problem was fixed with simply backing out the 4 diff screws by half a turn. Not sure if it was overtightened, or the tolerances/shimming was a miss but in my case it now runs smoother and quieter.
I put the short gearing straight up before I ever run it outdoors. By now I have tested it on asphalt, dirt and short grass (6 battery packs worth) the ESC and motor barely get warm and the battery about 20min on average.
I checked all the screws. THIS IS A MUST as in my case one of the two motor mount screws started backing up underneath the chassis within the few minutes of indoor running.
I also installed the droop screws in the front (after having been burnt by the WLTOYS suspension setup) to avoid damage on the diff cups. Not sure if it is even needed In this one. The CVDs, dog bones and cups seem to be made from much tougher quality steel.
I love that everything is DumboRC compatible and I currently run it with a X6FG gyro receiver. This helps the driving a little bit but WARNING, this is not an easy car to drive accurately. My guess is that the culprit is the tire-grip to power ratio because accelerating, braking and steering was much more predictable and controlled on carpet. leading me to believe that with better grip tires this could replicate outdoors also.
I'm new to RC (like some of the people that watch these videos) and my opinion/experience having owned a WLtoys 144001 (which totally disappointed me at 68€) and an Arrma Granite Voltage (which has been an amazing monster truck for 99$). I think the Rlaarlo is a winner for 150$.

All the extras and case is nice. I always learn something new when you go over the the parts of the cars. It held up well at full speed into the curb.

I wish I could tell you why, but I couldn't stop laughing after seeing that plastic finger pushing the rear suspension up & down. There was something about that image that just made me chuckle, then laugh and then replay it a few times. If I want to learn about the rig I'll have to watch over, cause I just couldn't pay attention any more. Phil, your finger cracks me up.

Motor fan would help a lot too. The stock gearing on 3s gets the motor hot quickly, especially lots of start and stop. Mine blew the tires apart almost immediately when I put a 3s in it
3s was same for mine with tires hah. Did you just reglue them and has your fix held? I have yet to do something and curious what or how.
Mine turned up yesterday (I think I ordered it in the last couple of hours whilst it was cheap). I needed to adjust the engine position slightly as the gear mesh was off, and re-stick the ESC but otherwise all good. Battery tray in the middle luckily 😃

$149.99 was the right price for this. Wouldn’t pay any more.
Last but not least. A fair review as always Phil. Im suprised the little buggy took that hit on the curb so well. They would be onto a winner if they did a slipper clutch for 1:14, there are alot of them knocking around and the rc community love an upgrade. It would be funny if Wltoys cloned the clone of a clone and brought out slipper clutches as upgrades, It probably wont happen mind, they will probably just raid the parts bin and come up with a frankenstein of a car :D

I did drill the chassis and it isnt 100% CF, does have a composite core

Just picked up a Riaario AM-D12 Desert truck. Basically the brother to the AM-x12.. For some reason I always see good reviews until I buy something., then they become negative. The motor was also crooked on mine pinion out of wak. Returning asap, dont want to mess with this company
Seems pretty darned good Phil,though as you said,they'd have been better off installing the smaller pinion as standard.
I would like too see it on a track, this buggy i think would be incredibly fun and amazing on a small track on 2s lipo , the max speed make sense yes but the steering precision and acceleration and the performance on a track against other buggy should matter
12:06 thisis the most important conclusion; for that price you get an LC Racing. It sits in between WLToys and LC, but the price is slightly too high to justify it...

Very nice buggy for the $114 I paid. And that's what I said in my review. But not so great for it's $250 full asking price. I think the cheapest you can get it now is $200. The RTR Controller is a reskinned Dumborc so it will bind to Dumborc rxs.
Finally got mine today after ordering it at the end of November. It seems like I've got the CZcamsr/non retail version where the battery is in the further back position which is frustrating, but I've noticed turning the battery round seems to keep it clear of the slipper clutch/driveshaft assembly. Only other issue I can see at a first glance is the ESC isn't quite stuck down but so far so good just can't wait to drive it now. After watching your video Tomley looks like I need to go over mine make sure everything is ok 👍🏻
Yeah my pre-order car also had the goofy battery tray too close to the driveshaft so I took all that out and stand up a traxxas 3s and velcro it to the deck with the side plastic trim off. Keeps it away from everything pretty well and way higher capacity than what the tray would have held. My front diff didn't last very long either, but the way I was driving it on 3s with sand paddles considerably larger than the stock wheels I cant be too mad at it. Hopefully the new parts will last longer assembled properly and greased
The size feels a little small, but straightness seems good. It seems to be faster than I thought. It's a wonderful picture.👍👍👍
You need a pool noodle on that curb when you do speed runs. Save your cars from concrete death
Quality control was lacking just a bit on mine. The front diff was far too tight and completely dry. Also one of the front shocks was missing the top e-clip so it basically had no dampening. All fixed up it's a pretty fun little buggy.

Great review Phil i ordered a blue one from your earlier video, i paid £125 delivered just before Xmas on the special release price, while i have not actually had chance to run it yet,it is a quality item for sure, i will change the pinion beforehand & perhaps re-glue the tyres as well, great stuff though👍
As you say Phil, CZcams is saturated with reviews of this car and everytime I see it I have the same thought. Great car and it is fast but I wouldn't pay that kind of money for it. I've got the 144001, the 124017 and the EAT14 so i'm done with LC clones. 🤣🤣
Grub screws like they I’ve noticed if you put a dab of nail polish so it’ll stop it backing out but maker east enough to undo
Nice vid. You said you havnt had problems with wltoys comming unglued. I bought a 124016 V2 (from your link 😉) started playing with it Christmas day and had a rear tyre come off new years eve. Lucky it has the spare on the back to keep going despite the spare being a narrow front wheel.
Maybe there is a shortage of decent glue in China!
You know you can buy glue at the dollar store? I always have a few packs on hand......
I was very disappointed when I ordered the rolling chassis version of this car. It cost $50 less but came with no case, no extra parts, no droop screws and no servo mount. I’m not sure exactly who this rolling chassis kit is aimed at? It took a month to ship from when I ordered it. If you want to return it from the US a you have to ship it to China. I appreciate your honest review, this car was over hyped by everyone who got a free car.
I saw a few comments on that actually. A Roller should offer good value, but it seemed to take a lot away from the RTR! Was should have mentioned that in this video actually

I've been replacing parts on my wltoys 124018 with parts from that Rlaarlo, starting with the slipper-clutch/driveshaft combo. Will be doing the front-rear hub carriers next, due to the larger bearings on the Rlaarlo.
Is the driveshaft interchangeable between the two? I’d like to use the WL driveshaft on the rlaarlo.
My retail one didn't have the battery tray in the new location.. but I haven't had any issues yet
Hi, this rc car’s lipo charges with the balance connector out of the box. Do I need to charge it with the balance lead, if yes can you recommend a good budget charger. Thanks btw I love your videos.
This car definitely has potential depending on what you plan on running it on. For carpet, it needs much shorter/ softer springs for the shocks & sealed diffs would be nice 🤞🏻 very excited for their 1/10 scale!
My Wtoys V2 124016 unglued a tire by the third Battery ever using it. It wipped right off, rolled dead straight 50 meters up hill in my driveway, then bounced across the street an into the bushes in the ditch across the street hahaha. But they come with a spare front tire mounted on the buggy, so I was back at it in a minute.
Definitely run a Hobbywing 10bl120, 4300kv 2845 and foam tires easy 75mph. Includes a 17 tooth, I put the Wltoys 19t on. I'll stick to 1/8 scales on up.

I've been running a wltoys 124019 as a speed run platform for a while now. It's a bit clapped out from pushing limits. Since these cars are basically the same I plan on picking one up and moving my 100mph 3s electronics over. These rlarros look to have a better motor mount and some nicer components over the wltoys. I'd bet a 10bl120 ESC, 4t 540 motor, and a big 3s would easily get one of these in the 80+ speed ranger
At the original price I'd buy it all day long. Overall it's pretty nice at that price.

Mine arrived Christmas Eve, haven’t run it yet, but my battery position is the same as the prerelease, which is kinda interesting but I have put a barrier on the battery tray to stop the battery making contact with that screw. Might well check my tyres now. I don’t think I’d have even looked at it for 250, but at 150 it was very worth a punt. My diffs definitely have a good amount of grease, but I suggest you check your mesh, mine made a similar “rough sound” and the mesh was a little tight. My one gripe.. the case not fitting the transmitter, I did take it out to run, and forgot the transmitter. Which was more down to stroppy teenager than the fact it was not in the case, but…. Lol

Worth for lowered price around 150 Euro. But not for full price. Screws has hex head, but thread is similar to standard Phillips screw.
Overall it it almost the same as WL toys, one different is brushless combo for the same price (if is 150 Euro). Package is really nice + few spare parts. But can not imagine hard impacts on the dirt track. There some buggy 1/8 from second hand will serve better.
I soldered 4mm bullets, because hate deans connectors and on original battery also 4mm female with covers. This buggy is not bad, but i can not recommend it for someone as a main(only) truck. Waiting one month for spare parts can be painful. I bought it to collection, but take it out rarely. Have Typhon 6S for the track (4S) and hesitating about Serpent SRX8e from the second hand, which is quite different level also.

I just got back into RC recently and pick up one of these [non carbon version] a few days ago. Is it possible to put larger offroad tires on this buggy? The ones I've found online have a 4mm hub but this one has 2mm hubs. Do I need an adapter kit to fit 4mm wheels? Thanks for any info you might have.

While I applaud Rlaarlo for going the higher quality route compared to Wltoys, I do think the 12/14 scale buggy market is pretty saturated. I'd like to see them attempt a version of the ptg-2r chassis that wasn't nearly $400

Just got mine the other day,Had stripped screws and all of them were loose, battery tray was slid back, no grease, top speed is 13mph with throttle at 100% and I can't get it to go any faster.No idea what's wrong with it. and I moved the tray and the chassis has white flakes when drilled.Hope I can't get this sorted out
If I am going smaller than 1/10th scale, what is the point of going to 1/12th? I'll take a Losi Mini-B over this all day.
Have to agree with you. It's good quality sure but how long is it going to be supported before they move on? Losi has been around forever and aren't going anywhere soon

You have the same issue I have with that grub screw coming out, I seem to have two other issues that I’m not entirely sure why. One is it rolls over rather easily on sharp turns. Other issue is despite fiddling with the rear wing it just doesn’t seems to fly well between /over the jumps on clay and carpet 1:10 tracks. Not that it isn’t un landable or un driveable, but I feel like my mini b, mini T (both rtr and the roller version) just fly better and also land better 🤷♂️
Your cornering issue may be from over tightened sway bars, try loosening them a fraction. This may also improve jumps freeing up the front and rear arms and stopping the shocks binding. Good luck, hope you sort it.

People could open their wltoys diffs? Mine are all held together with 2 screws of 4 because the other 2 snapped instead of unscrewing so I stopped trying to open them,. Every single wltoys diff I've looked at has done it
