Jerry Mathers Dating Game date details revealed - Haroldine responds

- 53 years after a 1966 New Year's Eve Dating Game show on which 18 year-old Jerry Mathers was picked by a young lady called Haroldine (named after her mother's brother who died two weeks before she was born) from among three child stars (also Eddie Hodges and Barry Gordon) to go on a three-night trip to London with a woman chaperone, Jerry and Haroldine have provided answers to popular questions and details about their experience together following the conclusion of the show.
This is the first Haroldine I have ever heard of.
My guess is her dad said his kid HAD to be named after him...regardless!

Barry Gordon(bachelor # 3)was on an episode of "Beaver" as a character named; "Chopper".
Bachelor #3 was also the voice of Donatello on the 80's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.
This is in Color (December 31, 1966 at 7:30-8:00 PM on ABC), because The Primetime Dating Game was in Color from October 1966-January 1970 and The Daytime Dating Game was in color from January 1967-July 1973.
Jerry was a good looking young man.

Very heartening to hear that Mr. Mathers invested wisely in California real estate throughout the years and that he has kept the Beaver appearance income stream going. So many young celebrities end up tragically, as we all know.

I recognize numb 3 as a kid who played chopper Jerry's friend from summer camp on 1 of the episodes. He also went on to play a lawyer on the Archie bunker show.

Jerry has come out and repeatedly disclosed that she lied about her age. The problem came that when the passports were checked they found out that she was a minor. The producers had a major problem with taking an underage girl to Europe. An extra chaperone was added and the London schedule had to be completely changed which was a letdown for Jerry. No nightclubs, no adult parties etc. Jerry surmised that she must have created a fake driver’s license - to get on The Dating Game. Passports cannot be altered.
Yes, this has been widely reported for decades by all parties involved, including Haroldine sharing the story in radio interviews, etc. But the story about her tricking producers is bogus -- she had been on the show before and producers knew well she was only 16 then but they asked her back anyway. I chatted with she and Jerry a couple years ago and revised this video to share their stories about the whole thing, including them dating a couple times before they even went to London, and the chaperone who left them alone in their London hotel room, etc. Check out this link...

Bachelor number 3, Barry Gordon played Beaver's friend Chopper on the Beaver's House Guest episode. I thought he looked familiar. They should have got Alan Roberts Costello, Chuey Varella, from the Beaver and Chuey episode to round out the bachelors.
Was in Alfred Hitchcock Presents, as well.
Also costarred along side Jason Robards in A Thousand Clowns, fantastic, largely unrecognized film.
I can add a few tidbits .He sang I’m Getting Nuttin for Christmas, and was in the Barney Miller Spin-off Fish.

I've always wanted to know if she really knew it was Jerry Mathers just by his voice. A long running TV show aimed at her demographic. It is hard to fathom that she didn't have at least a good hunch.

I wish CZcams would bring back that Halloween 1972 episode of The Dating Game with Vincent Price as a guest star and celebrity contestant who picked out a date for Janit Baldwin. CZcams will never say why they deleted that episode, but I don't think I saw anything to cause that video to be deleted from CZcams.
If you recall, the rumor going around in 1970-71 was Jerry Mathers was killed in Vietnam. Obviously not true at all but I remember people saying that back then. If I recall correctly, Jerry was in the Air Force or Air National Guard. Also, Leave it to Beaver was pretty close with their timeline. The show ended in 1963 with Beaver finishing 8th Grade. That would mean he would graduate High School in June, 1967.

I was taking training at Fort Bliss Texas (El Paso) during the summer of 1967--a few months after this Dating Game. Some members of my outfit accidentally ran into Jerry on Fort Bliss at the time, but I never laid eyes on him. I thought Fort Bliss was purely an Army base specializing in Air Defense, but it's certainly possible JM may have received Air Force training there--or maybe he was actually in the Army National Guard like I was.

If this was taped 2 weeks before New Years' Eve 1966/67, then Barry Gordon was also a minor that day, since he was born Dec. 21, 1948, though he would've been 18 before the trip.

No, if you read her comments here when I discussed it with her, she didn't know the show very well and didn't know who any of them were, but quickly got a crush on Jerry - she had been on the show several times and she told me she was only 15 and went on several dates with Jerry after this show before they went to London; he even came and met her parents. But by the time they got to London, Jerry seemed to think she was too young for him, and Jerry told me he wanted to explore the pubs on his own without Haroldine's chaperone. They didn't see each other after they returned from London.

That’s not very nice. His interviews clearly show a kind, down to earth, genuinely nice person, unlike some former child stars. We can’t all be perfect physical specimens. He’s had some major health issues. A person of depth looks at the heart, not at the outward appearance, especially if you don’t know what he’s been through in real life.
