- In this video I take a detailed look at the Titanic game (TITANIC SOS) and examine it from perspective of a Titanic historian. I want to find out how detailed and accurate this game portrays the sinking of the Titanic.

If you want to experience the sinking like one of the passengers did:
-Play during the night
-Get in a lifeboat and watch the sinking
-Set computer brightness low enough just so that you can barely see the ship
-Set lighting settings to gloomy
-Set graphics to the highest setting
Enjoy :)
It will make you see why not all of the passengers reported the ship splitting in half
Yes, the darkness that the passengers were in made it hard to see the ship in the first place, but when the lights went out, the only source of light the passengers had, the world went pitch black. So hard to see anything.
-if ur a woman or child you can get into a lifeboat and watch the sinking*
I'm not trying to argue but wouldn't they have heard the split?
Or maybe some of the first lifeboats rowed far enough that they didn't see/ hear much of what happened
Again not trying to argue but just saying
@@TV-ly3dp Lightoller said that he heard the ship's boilers collapsing and exploding deep within the ship. However, unknown to Lightoller, that sound was actually the ship splitting in two. I'm sure some people heard it split but must have assumed it was something else like a boiler exploding.
@@TV-ly3dp people said that the split sounded like explosions from inside the ship, not realizing it split
I remember "internet" where you had the ability to basically only check email.
@@sean9806 no, you couldn't. Just loading a picture took like a minute
Hi, as a person who plays games like this and actually makes models like these, I would say that this game is a massive stepping stone to actual simulations of actual maritime disasters. The only problem I see here is that this game is only able to be recreated on Roblox which as you may know is going through a lot of controversial updates in the last few months. But even with what these developers had, they used their advanced knowledge to recreate mostly what happened onboard that dreadful night. What a masterpiece this game is.
The only bad thing about titanic games of this size is that you have to have a fairly good PC, laptop to be able to play the game smoothly
@@hanz_got_panzer3793 Yeah but that's part and parcel of simulators of this caliber.
My son loves to play Roblox, and watches all of your videos with me! We paused this video so he could load it and play along! Awesome!!
Suggestion: April 14th next year, this game, multiplayer, real-time sinking, get someone to make a server for maximum players, and play with subscribers and other Titanic scholars you happen to have on! 😁
I would love to see that!
12 days left.
There is a 2d browser game callled “Titanic Voyage RPG” it’s a real time sinking titanic, if you want to join that.
Sam, you're as much a legend as the Titanic herself, at this point! I love Titanic, my son loves Roblox, and we are going to have a great weekend! Thanks so much for this!
Have you heard of, or had an opportunity to play, a computer game from 1996 titled "Titanic: Adventure Out Of Time"? While it is a sort of "who done it/adventure game", it does allow a player to roam the Titanic while working through the plot scenarios. Legacy technology it may be but the graphics were, and are still, impressive.
This was one of my favorite games as a kid, I found it on steam and was so excited. I even managed to find the guide at a local thrift store about a month ago
Loved that game
“You’re the one who stole the Rubaiyat! Prepare to die at the hands of Serbia!”
Loved it!
I'd love to see that game remade with modern graphics.
I play that game so much. It is so detailed also there is a lounge and the swimming pool. The gym is there too.
Amazing. I just found this game on Roblox about 2 hours before you uploaded this video. I was incredibly blown away with it myself especially by the fact that it is free to play at the quality level it is at!
Oh wow that's supremely impressive! I didn't know Roblox was capable of that sort of gameplay.
Also I remember when AOL felt fast lol, and there could be VIDEOS people could send you, which really felt like the future! It was certainly leaps and bounds better than what we had before, and now I wouldn't want to go back and live in a time before the Internet again.
After 2009, roblox has always been able to do that gameplay
Yep…..I was around for the DOS pre-windows stuff. The first computer games I played as a child were on a Commodore 64. My elementary school even had Apple IIe and II Plus models in the computer lab. Good old days. Great video! Love your content as always
I have a commodor 64 in the box right behind me in the closet. It doesnt work but it does power up. My tv screen does react to it but all i have is a black screen, not sure what the issue is.
Keep it up
@@HistoricTravels afraid I can’t be of too much help, but I think mine may have suffered a similar failure. I seem to recall the video stopped working at some point when my parents tossed it out. Wish it had been kept, but this was way back when I was in grammar school. Loved your Lusitania series BTW. Excellent work
I think the story Titanic Honor and Glory should go with is something like Assassin's Creed's gimmick where the player is hooked up to a machine that will allow them to channel characters during the sinking. This gameplay element allows to keep the accuracy of segregation among classes but can give the player full access to the ship. You can live through first class, third class and crew characters throughout the sinking and experience how events played out in certain areas. This element also gives moments of breaks in the story when the experimental technology fails on occasion. This is practically the only way to keep the realism of the Era.
Sell that idea
@@nobodyknowsme3324 lol maybe I will. My idea has the main character and player into the body of someone looking after a younger sister that way the player can form a stronger bond with the story and really feel the danger of losing that sibling character while the ship is sinking. The thing is I don't know what engine they're using and what it's capable of. I was thinking of writing up a sample for the team along with a synopsis and offering my services. I would really want the characters interactions feel genuine and of the Era so it would take a lot of research. There are some pretty interesting things going on for the time period. Political unrest and new ventures being built.
They're not doing a storyline anymore since they couldn't get a developer or funding to make NPCs and program AI etc. It's a walking simulator only now but will include every room on the ship.
@bobby ray of the family smith well that's unfortunate. I mean, getting to explore the ship is great and all, but having a real immersive experience and interacting with characters on the ship is so appealing. That being said, I can't imagine how much time that would take or how demanding it would be. The game is already over 30 gb with only half the ship. I would love to see a full game though will a large cast of characters. Yesterday, I started looking up the first passenger of the ship's registry online. Anthony Abbying, I started picturing what his lifestyle would have been like. He was a blacksmith returning from a South African contract when he sought out passage on Titanic. He was the elder sibling of six, born in Cincinnati from German parents who migrated to the US, so I imagine he was familiar with caregiver responsibilities, especially since their father died when they were young. Sadly, he was one of the third class passengers who wouldn't escape the ship. So this is a bit interesting because in Cameron's movie he has Rose and Jack attend the party in third class. I haven't looked too much into it and wonder if that would have actually taken place. Now, it could have been more creative licenses purely to show a contrast between the mentality of 1st class and third. In reality, it might have been that even 3rd class passengers largely kept to their own groups instead of liberally mingling with many strangers. In which case that's something the movie misrepresents and it would be nice to give gamers a real sense of the people and period. Anyways these types of thoughts are what I was hoping to explore in the game. Lol.
As a teen the only real PC Titanic thing I had was Total Titanic: A Night to Remember. It had the film with audio commentary by Ken Marshall and Don Lynch and a bunch of interactive multimedia experiences that were common in the mid 90s. Still, having pictures of the Titanic that I could use for my wallpaper and screensaver was an amazing thing to have in 1997 or so.
Amazing video! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate how you went over all the details and work we put into this game. Great video, Sam! 🙌
Oh I Can't wait
Yeah me to
An eerie experience to say to least. In the non-real-time sinking, I attempted to lower as many lifeboats as I could on my own using a private server (no other players; just me). Unfortunately I only had enough time to launch 10 of the forward lifeboats, not including collapsibles A and B. By the time I was about to go over to boats in the stern section, water was already creeping up on A-Deck and I started hearing the band playing Nearer my God To Thee. That prompted me to run back toward the bow and lower the last forward boat (#5) before jumping in. Moments later, the water reached the boat deck and the rest was history (albeit an alternate and more tragic history).
Sometime later, I'll attempt another playthrough using the real-time sinking under different player settings when I'll have 2 hours and 40 minutes to spare. Many thanks for this great find! Looking forward to when Honor & Glory is eventually finished!
What makes this game fun for me is the roleplay that happens. The players, although hectic, are really nice, and playing with them is really fun.
I enjoyed this so much! thank you so much, Sam!
Ayyyy. Thanks for reviewing the game. Wish I could be here for the review but I was busy. Our community appreciates it.
Love H&G been following them for years!!
great video!! I was actually a part of this group when they were midway through building. I played all the testing games etc!!! :)
Great review, Sam! Definitely will give it a try to play this weekend 🙂
I saw you in-game yesterday! Glad to see this video released :)
As a person who played this game and have a roblox account ever since 2019, id say this game gets a review of 10/10, it absolutely blew all other titanic sinking games ive ever played out of the water Thanks for introducing this game to us, Historic!
Historic Travels, I luv ur vids, keep up the good work! :D
Dude…not only do I remember dial-up, I can still HEAR it to this day! Cool video! Have you considered doing a full play through video?
I play this game all the time. I’m so glad you finally played it! I also recommend you play Britannic S.O.S.
It was made on Maritime Interactive’s Old Group which doesn’t exist anymore, but the game is up. Barely anybody plays it but it’s really good. You should do Britannic S.O.S.
Your CZcams channel is one of my favourites
I'd love to see the full Titanic, especially the engine room, and what kind of damage the water will do to the boilers, or to the not properly closed furnaces.
I'm not much for games, but your description of the gave was very good, I'm surprised that you are not being used as a technical advisor with all your know. Thanks again.
Love the video! I had been hoping you would try this game :D
I love your videos Sam, hope you are having a great summer.
Wow it look amazing and thanks for sharing!
There's a old game called Titanic: Adventure Out of Time. It came out in late 90s. I think like 97. It has a good fictional story about a man that goes back I time to the night the Titanic sank. It's recreation of the Titanic is one of the most accurate ever. It has actually been used as a visual animation for a few documentaries. I would love to play a more up to date game though.
the ad: "experience the sinking of titanic"
what the firm sells: legit time travelling sessions.
me: uh ohh...
Been playing these Titanic Role-play games since 2009, starting at VVG’s version, which isn’t as nice as it used to seem, but still cool to look back on. Great video
I play this game almost all the time, I even worked on it on the discord. I can say for certain its polly the best Titanic game if your looking for accuracy and good roleplay
Oh I definitely remember dial-up & when there was no net. Thanks for the update, this is what I'll have to check out.
wow, didn't know a youtuber like you would make a video on a game that i love.
Great video, game looks incredible!
Another Roblox game I would play in my downtime is called "Tiny Sailors World". It has a plethora of vessles to choose from and travel on, as well as various locations to sail to! The ships are beautifully modeled and I feel such joy whenever I hop on. 12 outta 10 recommended! Also, love your videos and thank you so much for doing what you do! Take care and I can't wait for what you put out next⚘️😁
hey sam , i have took a break from the channel for 6 months but im back , great to see that you have grown from 5 thousand subscribers to 77.6 thousand subscribers in 18 months . i want to give some recommendations for videos , i think you should do videos on KMS bismarck IJN yamato USS iowa and some of the british battleships like the hood .
Come on Sam !! Don’t tell me you didn’t play Adventure Out of Time as a kid haha. I was hoping you would mention the game at least. It was the closet thing we have at the time to experience the sinking of Titanic, even if it was very restrictive due to it being a point and click adventure and the technology of the time. I love that game as a kid.
He's mentioned in other videos that he did play that game.
Very glad that you decided to play this game! I suggest you play Roblox Titanic when 3.0 releases, right now it isnt too good though as the developers abandoned 2.0 to work on 3.0. There is also Britannic SOS which I think you should check out, and there is also Titanic SOS Legacy which is an older build of the game.
Great video.
What a breath of fresh air after binging youe Bright Side series 😂
you know more gaming videos would be amazing
keep up the good work
Sincerely
Damien
I new it, Congrats Sam!🎉 Your kid Dream has Come True🎉🎊
Your video sparked my interest in this game and since my stepdaughter has Roblox, we tried it out a few days ago. It was a lot of fun, despite somehow we didn't have such good graphics as you had, but it was still enjoyable. What really blew my mind is that of course she had to try to climb up the funnels and it is also possible in the game, first we tried the "fake" funnel, then the third funnel, which we could actually fall into.😃 The second time we did the sinking mode we tried to stay on the stern as long as we could and we almost made it, however, you can actually easily fall off the stern as she plunges if you just stand there, so that's a really cool detail too! And fun fact, you can jump off the ship in the exploration mode too (of course we did it) and still die from hypothermia, also get slammed by one of the propellers. Really cool and detailed game!😊
Last night, we ended up in a life boat together on this game. It was great briefly chatting with you!
Hey Sam if you were asked to host a show on the history channel about the Titanic would you do it?
Played it before, i loved it
Did he ever go back for that door? Eh, must not have been that important. What’s the worst that can happen? 😉
How much time would it have bought for the ship if that door had been closed?
Ahhh it's only a little water no biggie
I’m 35 and I remember dial up AOL very well.
You should try playing Titanic Adventure out of time it's what started my fasination with the ship it's a point and click adventure game that has a story of a spy thriller i won't spoil it for you but i highly suggest you try it out.
that game takes me back
My family had dial-up. The only time I get to hear those lovely dial up sounds when my work uses a fax machine.
A VR version of this game would be awesome.
To see the dept of everything and everything that goes with VR. 😉👍🏻
The fact that he forgot to close the gangway door in the dining room is just pure amazment and funny as hell 😂
Very cool!
What I'd like, is a submersible model, with a cutaway view. I've honestly thought about making similar or custom ship internals, in which you could battle water as it sinks your model. as a little kid I was kinda obsessed with ships and sinking and such. not sure why, I know it's a grim subject.
I’m 37 and remember aol being on cds and floppy disc they had so many minutes you could use
I had been curious about this experience on Roblox, but I usually spent my time playing the original Roblox Titanic from Virtual Valley because it was the first one I ever found and I thought it was pretty well done. SOS looks quite a bit more advanced and I'll definitely be checking it out next time i'm on. There are also some very nice sailing museums of the entire Olympic Class fleet made by ParticularParticle that I also recommend, but they don't include sinking simulation.
I wish the exploration mode had a night time mode and more interiors though.
How old are you Sam?
I’m an Old at 43. I played Oregon Trail during Computer Class in lower school. It’s amazing to see how far we’ve come, AND amazing how quickly we casually adopt new technologies and can’t imagine life without it!

Bro the grand staircase in that game looks ugly as hell
@@titanicbigship I probably haven’t played that game in a while then

Mega props for DOOM being on the pc in the beginning of the video. I still play that game all the time.
I have played Titanic SOS before, there’s also two HMHS Britannic game made by different groups.
Imagine having this as a sinking model on a detailed model as this, really impressive.
I’ve seen seen custom ones and it looks great.

This is astounding.
I remember AOL, even had a game called Titanic, Adventure out of Time.
Thanks for the tip about the game, Sam! See you in lifeboat 16!
I see you. :)
Titanic Adventure Out Of Time… that was my jam
Ship Simulator 2006 and 2008 both had Titanic in them. Not fully recreated or realistic sinking but it still was nice walking around there.
Hi, Sam! It was very nice getting to meet you in the game!

Ronlox titanic is so awesome it's been one of my fav game since 2017
The amount of detail is incredible.
Also was that a Lightoller reference? Lol
;)
I watched this video and saw my Role play name, Alan A. Airdrift, very happy I was in one of your videos!, Even if I wasn't supposed to be in it.
I remember dial-up internet, for sure! My kids remember it too.
This Version of Titanic S.O.S was Awaited atleast for me and they are working on a V2 of the Model and there was a V1 A.K.A the Original Titanic Model for Titanic S.O.S. but It was more Smaller and Inaccurate and they Changed alot in V1.5 and well It Impressed me alot, Definitely a Great Titanic game for Roblox's Engine Limitations and It gets better if you put it on Max Graphics or Play Solo in a Private server but the Private servers I believe cost money but It's an Underrated Roblox Titanic game.
Sam you should try to play titanic legacy if I remember the sinking is 1 hr and 30 mins long
I am a titanic historian as well and I also like this game it really captures the lighting like the movie 🎥
wonder if james cameron knew titanic had a list when he made the movie or omitted that due to technical limitations of the set
Hey I know this video is older but I wanted to suggest to you something, if haven't heard of it before. It's called Titanic Voyage RPG, it's a text based browser game that recreates the Voyage and sinking of the Titanic from South Hampton to the Survivors on the Carpathia. It's an annual event that I think would be fun for you to talk about.
I thought with all the late 90s references, this was going to be a review of "Titanic: Adventure out of Time", which was fairly decent at the time if you just wanted to explore the ship. The actual game play though was pretty terrible, consisting of entirely made up characters trying to steal the Rubaiyat, a lifeboat pass, and a painting by Hitler (Yes, that one!) in order to prevent or fund WWI, depending on which side they were on. The sinking itself was only shown in cut-scenes (such was the limitation of technology at the time), but during the sinking phase of the game the ship does at least list forwards while you're walking around.
I'm a nearing-middle-age guy, so I definitely remember dial-up Internet, the early to mid 90s, and all that. Oh, and as a nod to that computer pic you showed, I'm also a huge Doom fan, so there's that, too. I also wished that there had been such a game like you describe, because I was still a kid back then (of course). Of course, at least back then, we still had Titanic: Adventure Out of Time (which is also apparently highly accurate in terms of Titanic's overall design.) Anyway, nowadays I wish there was an accurate physics simulator that could allow a physically-realistic model of Titanic to be sunk, so that either different variables could be tested, or that one could attempt to recreate the sinking as it actually happened, and possibly glean some insight - however small - into the ship's demise. Like Floating Sandbox, but in full-3D. Nice touch regarding the port D-Deck gangway door, BTW. LOL. And wow....they did a fantastic job with this.
I remember them days mate. A much similar time
I made a couple of sinking ship simulations on roblox and have played with the dev team on titanic sos and in some of it's old versions carpathia would arrive and pick up survivors
I remember dial up. Going online was like an event. You had to set time aside in your day in order to do it!
Hey historic travels I play this game and it was awesome
You should do a video series or video about 3rd class passenger survival stories
I played this game a lot and seeing a CZcamsr playing roblox not ironically makes me very happy
I remember playing Titanic Roblox before SOS and while nowhere near as good, it was still pretty fun.
If you happen to have a VR theres a vr game in a game called rec room named Titanic Legacy Survival Roleplay, it is amazing and theres also a non sinking version
I agree I have not seen a great Titanic video game since Adventure Out Of Time.
Yep dial up and AOL. My first computer was a TRS 80. We had to type in the program onto a cassette tape and you better know DOS!
Yes, I remember AOL and chatrooms and MSN! Crazy how technology has progressed. When I was a kid, the only way to learn about anything was through books. I had SO many Titanic books and I don't know where they are now sadly.
I still miss the rooms. Meeting people like that was fun
@@robertschultz6922 I don't , there were so many creeps on them 😂
