Fantastic that you were able to get dolphin footage! They're so difficult to spot in that opaque water. I'm curious, was the illegal fish a pirarucu (or arapaima)? I know they're endangered and are only allowed to be caught at specific times of the year. Well, in Colombian waters anyway.

Thanks, that was one of the perks for sitting still for 4 hours in a narrow part of the river. We got a chance to see the dolphins. Thats what I asked too, and the local that was translating everything from Portuguese to Spanish thought it might be Arapaima as well! We never got confirmation!

Judging by the size of the tarp I'd say arapaima is a safe bet.
I had some (legal) arapaima in Leticia - it was a slab that just shy of being 1 square foot, about 3-4 inches thick - barbecued on a banana leaf and served with yucca (because of everything comes with yucca in Leticia). It was fantastic!! Plus it was a relief to eat fish that didn't still have its head attached. lol.
